Just put all teh files, where teh SOMA.exe is..
i also added teh settings from K-Putt.

--> http://www78.zippyshare.com/v/OSk18wEp/file.html

If its too dark, just adjust your gamma a bit, ether ingame or in teh sweetFX settings..

Greetz

argh, i left the reshade folder in it also, you can delete teh reshade folder, you dont need it.. thats why its 20mb.. lol..

These Smaa settings are not correct, your not actualy getting smaa with those values, you have 0.5 and it should be at least 0.05 to take effect at all.

Btw i updated from the bat torrent, and i was using the gog version, now my saves arent recognized, anyone knows where is the new location?

Thanks

the update works on gog, you simply have to rename nosteam.exe to soma.exe, you don't need to give up on your saves.

3E74 has already upped everything that you need since it's from the same preset, should work just fine Smile

@3E74: yup! I wanted to try that too, but then decided that using some DSR was the better choice and went for it (only 2x) instead. Will experiment more later Very Happy

DSR is wonderful indeed for this game. i'm doing 3x, mostly 60 fps, but some scenes it does dip to 50.

the game seems to have no culling/or bad culling tech in place. everything offscreen is rendered it seems.

I wasted 40 minutes in a single room because I couldn't see how to proceed.. I caved in and searched for walkthrough videos.. There was a fucking cable I couldn't see that needed to be connected! OMG Facepalm

This gave me the opportunity to see how far into the game I am. Going by that video I have completed around half of it.

The game is at its best when you are "interactively" following the story. Meaning exploring, making choices, solving puzzles.

The enemy encounters.. I am not fond of them. They are not like the Xeno in AI, a constant threat you have to have in mind in every new chapter. In Soma they are local to a (small) area and once you move from there the threat is gone.. They just break the flow of the story going. And I miss how the Xeno behaved, eg it would get bored and leave the room via the ceiling and I would be brave again and move freely butttt it could be back at any point and I would try to move quickly to a locker. Here it is more or less just be quiet and don't get close.

Lastly the underwater BioShock 2 like sequences are a bit boring.

Oh and.. I stil think the game is wonderful. Very Happy

Thanks!

What a great game...a must play for any sci fi love, its got a few vibes of the best of dead space, half life (train traveling and other stuff) visualy its a mix of prey(the machinary) with doom and alien isolation, its really good. the story is a different version of what we know (will not say what it is ofc) but theres a little twist to it, and the way the premise works is great, havent finished yet, so we will see how this pans out, but im enjoying this more than ethan carter atm.

8/10

SSD does miracles for this game. It was basically unplayable on my HDD, copied to SSD and stuttering disappears.

Don't know why it is coded like this, but I noticed the game engine doesn't use containers, but rather it's made of 43k+ separate files. Which is what causes the stuttering I think, as using file system handles to load single files this way generates way more overhead than using indexed containers. Weird decision, using containers has been standard practice for years now...

Maybe the decision was modding (easiness) related.

They could just have made a .zip or 7zip archive (Named it .pak instead as several other games do.) instead of loose files, would have helped a bit I suspect. Very Happy
(Would also have helped when unpacking the game after the preload period as Steam doesn't have to handle 40.000 files and instead the textures, models, sound and script files are in separate archives but still easily opened by the player to mod the game and perhaps with a ability for the game to load loose files and prioritize those over existing packed ones, or just use a separate folder or series of subfolders for modded content.)

they still are such, but the scenes later on are setup like alien isolation, so the tension rises. you will know when you see it.

I agree the AI is the worst part of the game. I only got caought once in the whole game so far

Does the patch SOMA.Update.v20150923-BAT give problems. I heard it will crash the game at some point. Is it better to play the game without that patch?

Great atmosphere, interesting story, shitty enemy encounters.

It's not tense, it's not hard, it's tedious.

The patched files were taken back by the developers so perhaps it would be best to remove it. I haven't though and haven't had any crash either Razz

I just finished this,

For me personally it's one of the best adventure type games i've played in a long time. It was just dripping atmosphere in both sound and environment. The story wasn't throw away like I was expecting.

The monsters or whatever they are where the only thing I thought was a bit weak. I could of quite easily have played through the whole game without them and still enjoyed it. It's definitely going to be a hard game to recommend though, although I thought it was ace I can see the gameplay style and story being very subjective.
