@The_Leaf This.

Rather would play the game being 3/4 of the Witcher 3 and in turn have a very immersive area with great gameplay. I mean if you only make half of the size of W3 into a city, that's already dense as hell, getting the feeling they'll overdo it and then you have the massive cityscape of which the half isn't used.

Idk, if there's something CDPR achieved with honors is making a huge ass map that doesn't feel like "filler" (ok, i give you Skellige water ?'s as the filler layer of the game Laughing )

One thing I wanted to say is that I personally like it if there is some scope to a city/landscape. Makes it feel more immersive IMO. It sometimes feels weird in RPG games when all the content is mushed together and very dense. Witcher 3 did that well. Sure there were the question marks all over thje map but doing actual quests you actually had to do some travelling as opposed to walking 100m away from the quest giver.

You can have awesome 3rd person RPGs without a big map. You need some awesome story/characters and lots of stuff to do in a smaller map of course.

Perfect example is Vampire: Bloodlines

its called a theme-park design when everything is neatly within walking distance from point of interest 1 to poi 2. Players dont have time to waste just exploring, and designers could potentially waste a lot of time designing areas some players never venture into - thats why they guide you to everything now.

A good way of making the world feel bigger say in for example Fallout games is to not make use of the fast-travel feature.

Yeah but come on, we all WANTED Bloodlines to be bigger Laughing Those tiny Source maps, haha. I'd have been happy if Bloodlines was twice as big with larger areas, more hubs, more of everything grinhurt

Yup, if there's one company I trust with "scope" of a game; it's CDPR. I have a lot of irritations about CDPR but I know their games are always expertly crafted (if not expertly programmed Laughing) - my 200hrs in TW3 was never boring, dull or tedious.... WITH the exception of Skellige's ?s.. sheesh.

They failed in TW2 though. That was built to be a bigger game but as you moved forward it was all generic filler and cut content. Then handwaving issues and moving the plot fast-forward through dialogue, a simple boss fight and ... over. TW1 had proper scope.

Yeah sure but it has to make sense in the context. Especially if you are doing an open world game with little to no loading times. Also an awesome story, characters and lots of stuff to do in a big world is also as good or better, no?

At the end of the day of course the content and gameplay are the main things but there is no reason not to have some nice big areas to stroll through. Of course since Cyberpunk will presumably take place mainly or only in a city I hope that they focus on making the city feel alive with big skyscrapers you can explore and subways and what not and not on just the area of the land mass.

Deus Ex HR also had small hubs and that's that. I hope CP 2077 isn't like that, though. And it seems it absolutely will not be, so ... good.

I hope they build on their engine with a focus on stabililty and performance, not bullshit screenshots and ballsackworks technology.

But it made more sense in DXHR because it was composed of individual levels not an open world which is absolutely fine if you choose to develop a game that way.

Anyway I have high hopes for this after the monumental achievement that Witcher 3 was.

*Must contain the cyberboner*

This is going to be one hell of a test, with all the new gameplay elements like augs, multiple ways to reach objectives, more vertical design since we're talking about a giant city, stealth, pew pewing...but I have full trust in them. If there's someone that can pull this off, it's CD. Everything Went Better Than Expected Just imagine if EA had bought the rights for Cyberpunk, we'd be browsing pictures of RoboBulls intimately sharing plugs.

Pretty much GTA5's map, or several large chunks of it anyway. Think about a Bloodlines set in that. Although I'm not sure how Bloodlines would go as a purely open world game, probably needs some gating as in the original.

I think a map about 1/3 to 1/2 the size of GTA5, but more densely packed, would work well for an open world Cyberpunk. You don't want a bunch of empty highways. Verticality is what they really need, to get that whole layered strata of society inherent in cybberpunk settings. Basically stacking a bunch of smaller maps one on top of the other I guess. I'm curious to see what they go for.

From outside, yeah I can see mile+ high/deep structures being a problem, but if you are inside there would be less draw distance to worry about because of all the walls. But I guess it's arguable how much of an open world that is. But how do you make an open world game in the classical sense when you really ought to be running around inside buildings most of the time? If they go they for a GTA-style city, is that really cyberpunk-like? Throw a lot of neon and grunge on it and make it rain a lot I guess? I had in my mind more of a 40K hive city kind of deal though.

I hope in the future CDP or some other creative dev create a space opera game in the vein of Bioware titles like KOTOR and Mass Effect. Where there are several worlds to explore and you use your ship to fly from one to another. It's a great recipe for story telling.

They used the same idea in Dragon Age with the "camp" but it's not the same as a ship of course.

Holy shit, what about a pirate ship which you upgrade with cannons and recruit companions through quests ala Mass Effect 2? With the Witcher 3 engine? And inbetween travels, trading, treasure hunting and piracy you get into dialogue, cards and drinking with your awesome mates? Oh em gee Exclamation Idea

Maybe a low fantasy pirate-themed action adventure, one can only dream Crying or Very sad
