After watching this, I'm so glad I never spent more than 65$ on this. Compared to some of my friends who've just increased their investment over time.
If or when this sinks, I'll shrug it off and laugh about it. But some of my friends will definitely cry manly tears of despair.
see, this is impressive. But ultimately pointless until ALL these starsystems are ready to visit and interact with.
I missed the conference, I think it's for the best
It was voted on by the backers (a year or so ago i think, can't quite remember how long ago it was). Thats why it's out now instead of orgs 2.0 for instance.

Oh well. ED is a bust, an overly expensive barren wasteland with pointless online-only DRM infestation, SC/SQ42 is never going to happen, anything Derek Smart makes is just hilarity and not even worth considering, and the X-series is seemingly dead in the water after the laughably horrible X-Rebirth. Microsoft owns Freelancer/Starlancer and will never let them go.
I guess all we've got left is the upcoming Rebel Galaxy ^_^

So far they've only got the one system done, Roberts joked about it on the stream, joking about how they're getting out SC Alpha 2.0 with the single system first, rather than making people "wait until all the systems are done, because, haha... that's a lot of systems"

I liked the prologue they showed of Squadron 42, you getting aboard the Idris frigate and walking to the briefing room. That's the kind of game I wanted, not the mmo.
I'm happy with the actors they chose.
It sort of felt like Wing Commander, but the Alpha, clipping and bugs etc kind of took me out of the moment - the syncing of actors' lines and so forth... rough stuff.
A lot of people on twitch didn't like the walking around, but I liked it lol. I'm old.

I love the IDEA of walking around, exploring the ship, interacting with the crew. I prefer that than the old WC/Raptor/X-Wing series of games where you just clicked an image of the crew in each area. But what they showed was clunky, janky and really poor performing - many complained about movement speed, animations, transitions. It didn't "feel" right and that's sadly because of Robert's push for so-called "realism" with animations being based off how people are RECORDED walking.
Everything about movement in this game is so unbelievably.... well.. CLUNKY. Nothing feels smooth, nothing feels intuitive. Did you try out the "Tutorial Mode" or "ArcCorp" social module before refunding? Movement was terrible! None of it felt enjoyable at all.
I knew I'd seen her before! Sophie Wu, she was in the Fresh Meat comedy series for a couple of episodes. How random is that, hehe. Didn't even know she was in Kick Ass 2.

Definitely. I agree 100% with the performance, and level of polish of their presentation was poor, and it took away a lot of the experience. I also remember what you said earlier, that originally you were supposed to be able to create your own character, male or female. Now we got a male one only.
I'm even starting to doubt the 2017 date I've believed to be mostly correct before. I'd vager they need until atleast 2018-2019 to make it a solid game with fun mechanics and gameplay, it just looks like a really early technical alpha at the moment.
They have some assets but there was really nothing of substance there, and that takes time to get right. If they release earlier I'm afraid it will be a fragmented shell of a game, where there are lots of cool ideas but nothing cohesive tying it all together.

Oh, that's not confirmed yet. The last "stance" from CIG was that you can create any character you want, SQ42 is still meant to be the "intro" to Star Citizen, so female or male characters were meant to apply. I just got confused about the stream only mentioning one male actor saying "I play the... well, player" -- Hopefully they'll clear this up and announce who is playing the female protagonist. IF it's still an option, that is. They may well attempt to distance SQ42 from SC as an introduction and use it as a standalone Wing Commander-esque title in the Star Citizen UNIVERSE.

Yup, that's pretty much it.. sadly SQ42 was meant to be 2014, then they announced it was delayed, split into multiple parts, with the "beta" of SQ42 coming "Q4-2015". Now none of it is coming before 2016.. and at the quality and level of scope they're claiming it will be now? Yeah, this ain't coming before 2017, no way.
In fact, I think SQ42 will now come as a separate title *after* Star Citizen has launched fully.

What, Roberts wife Sandi Gardiner is listed among the actors.
Normally I'd froth about nepotism there, but egh... Roberts also cast himself in the Wing Commander movie (the tech at the end that rescues Lt Blair ) so I'd be willing to let this slide.
I guess we can expect to play this around the same time as Cyberpunk 2077 and Half Life 3 then.. I was excited when we had the influx of space sims, but they don't seem to be coming any time soon now and those we have got so far (Elite Dangerous) have kind of failed to deliver, and No Mans Sky doesn't sound so great anymore either.
I was like 'finally some Squadron 42 stuff' its totally on the backburner compared to the MMO though. As if they both aren't difficult and complex enough on their own, jesus f christ this project is immense.
I will wait, patiently for more info and decide AFTER SQ42 is released whether to buy it. Sadly though its going be episodic which sucks ass.
The ingame Speech: I don't remember his voice ever being like this...
He doesn't, atleast not in reallife but the character he plays has that kind of voice. If you watched the citizencon stream with the behind the scenes stuff you will see him talking with that voice and then it fades into the game.
I think Gary has alot of different voices, take the fifth element for example.
Getting a cast like this for your video game takes a lot of money! Millions? I dunno man. Luke Skywalker/the Ham, right before a new trilogy, too. John Rhys Davies...

One thing is to voice, but if they're acting and you're using their faces, its probably not cheap. Hamill is mostly doing voice overs now. Like the Batman stuff.

Oh and by the way everyone... SAG-AFTRA is pushing for a strike of unionised actors and actresses in the voice-over industry, so if this goes forward - and it absolutely will because MONEY - you can expect SC/SQ42 to receive even larger delays, due to heavy focus on VA talent. You can bet your ass the likes of Gary Oldman, Mark Hamill, Gillian Anderson and John Rhys-Davies are all card-carrying union members.
