Not updating.

You don't have to, it's a separate build, but yeah. This is disappointing Sad

I certainly want to know what all the "deals, hush hush" shit was with SE. The nonsense that meant the game was delayed a year and Caustic couldn't talk about why because "NDA"

Very disappointing. I was really looking forward to this. Sad

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

Zoomed out seems to have the same FOV as the old one but it's not tilted.
Zoomed in is a joke.

There's no patch. You have to download a whole new game. Look for the added Director's Cut entry at the bottom of your games list and install it.

The camera has 16 zoom levels by default although I have not compared them to the original game, doesn't seem like you can adjust min and max zoom either like you could in say Sacred 2 (After much complaint and in the expansion, could move it to play the game in third person view or from isometric or top-down zoomed out or zoomed in. Very Happy ) but maybe it'll be patched if there's more criticism of the default camera settings in this new version of the game. Smile

He means the waiting for a patch that fixes the camera.

@JB, is there an option to tilt the camera?

It tilts as you zoom, the only setting I can find is that you can set the camera to not move when you have the cursor near the edges of the screen.
(Will hopefully be improved on in future patches, they didn't do a open beta so I'm sure fans have all sorts of suggestions now that they can play the game themselves although what inXile decides to actually implement we can only wait and see.)

That's the thing though JB, they took a once perfectly working camera and restricted and locked it in order to suit couch gamers playing from 10m away from the screen. All they had to do was leave the camera alone, let gamers control zoom/angle/pitch MANUALLY (as they can in every other game) and that's it. This new restrictive crap is so ugly Sad

I just installed this, and I must say. That fucking camera is shit. It would probably be fine if I was sat in front of a tv with a controller in hand, but I'm not.
I can't play this shit. I'd much rather go and play Fallout again, it has a far better viewing angle and area than this shit.
If I zoom out to get the same are view that I had in the previous game, the camera is stuck at the same 90 degree angle that made me seasick when first playing Driftmoon.
I'm quite disappointed in this.

Your HD is happy but your eyes won't be. Razz

I haven't downloaded the game yet. As I have my system hooked on the TV I'll check the camera. Could be better for couch gaming but this camera zoom and angle is shit anyways.

One thing I don't like about the "new" visuals is how blurry and indistinct everything looks now compared to the original. It's like the world is in a constant dream haze Sad I know it might be more "realistic" due to the likes of PBR, but there's no definition to anything.. no sharpness... it's just... smudge.

That should have nothing to do with PBR. Presumably they just added a next gen blur filter over the top.

They were supposed to provide proper mod support as part of the stretch goals, which they held back on once they announced the DC. Assuming they ever follow through on that, there might be avenues to fix some of that sort of stuff. Although Unity is pretty shitty for modding.

I knew something felt off about the camera, good to see they're fixing it.

I've played up to Highpool so far and the DC isn't a massive improvement, but the changes they made are good. The new skill UI is a lot more convenient than clicking everyone individually, and the combat feels much better this time around. Human enemies make better use of cover and flanking, and mutants have some new abilities like the cockroaches in Highpool can poison you now.

And speaking of Highpool, they got rid of the worst thing about it...the stupid door maze. Now you can just go around opening every door instead of leaving someone behind to toggle them.

There's also a lot more voice acting, your party members sometimes vocalize during combat instead of just the text popup. And everyone you recruit in the world has their own voice.

Performance is still shitty. Although the graphics have slightly improved the framerate has stayed the same.

Probably won't know until mid-game onwards, but I'm curious what balance changes they made. Do assault rifles still remain superior to everything else I wonder?

The outside of Ranger Citadel has a different layout, but other places I've seen are just slightly tweaked. There's also supposedly twice the number of random encounter maps.

And why wouldn't they be? Smile Just like real life Wink Anyway, I'll surely make one character specializing in SMG-s.
