Hmm. Anyone else is having problem with yarr version? I got my working at the beginning but the screen was like it's flickering. After that i closed the game and go for second try, now i just get black screen and mouse pointer is always at loading animation.
Is there any fix for that? (gfx driver is up-to-date)
Same problem for me, Windows 8.1, lastest NVidia drivers...
I tried to understand the problem. So far what i did is that;
restart pc
start the game as first thing to do after restarting
game opens in windowed mode
you see the intro etc.
click the game's window
the screen starts to flicker, impossible to play the game.
if you try to start the game for second time you get black screen and it gets loading forever. Essentially what you see is that the exe is not responding.
All this happens in codex version on windows 8.1 with the latest nvidia driver.
either the problem is in the driver (most probably not) or in crack.

Tried it for a bit but can't get the proper mood - i am fresh out of W3: Hearts of Stone, so i need some time to re-adjust to lesser stuff. Gotta play something shitty - like CODBO3, then get back to this.
The game has already sucked me in but I absolutely hate that crafting interface. So annoying to cycle through stuff with arrow keys. Should be able to do it with mouse wheel.
Found a possible solution at the beth forums, seems you have to use borderless window instead of full screen. Just tested it and it seemed to work. Unfortunately that massively drops performance, getting 40-60 while I get 80-140 in full screen mode.
You guys are ought to check out Mama Murphy in Concord, you'll see why soon On another note, fps took quite a hit (only specific directions) on Concord, need to play with the settings a bit soon.
@sabin1981 Doesn't "scrap" show you what materials you gain before you can scrap it? At least it did in the build-mode menu.
Guns are shit so far. Will I ever get any proper guns? Not this borderlandsish pipe gun thing. Like a proper revolver from New Vegas? I want to be a cow boy.
I'm quite optimistic so far. After 2 hours of playing, here's my initial findings:
GOOD
- the music is a lot more like Fallout 1 & 2 which is a big bonus
- mouse movement is amazingly responsive without having to screw around with vsync (read: Skyrim)
- the new weather effects are a plus even if they do harm the "desert wasteland" feeling a little
- combat feels less clunky
- changing FOV is pretty easy - should have been part of the settings, sure, but it's easy to fix
THE BAD
- the interface
- the interface
- THE FUCKING INTERFACE
And yes, this includes the new terrible dialog "wheel". Using pre-set buttons regardless of what you've bound your keys to is insanely stupid after the crap they got for doing the same thing in Skyrim. Having an AZERTY keyboard layout makes it a lot more complex forcing me to go to US keyboard before starting the game. Computers are also a lot more annoying to use - why couldn't they consequently use the right mouse button to return to the previous screen? Having to press "ESCAPE" all the time is really annoying since it means having to lift your hand up all the time. And yes, the dialog wheel is a disaster. "YES" "NO" "MAYBE"? A mod seriously needs to fix this by adding a clue what you're going to say.
Right now I'm enjoying the game but the console interface is a huge mess.
Holy fuck, that conversation system is going to be the absolute death of this game. It turns what should have been glorious into a fucking travesty of unknowns and limitations. Ask a question that wasn't what you thought it was? Tough shit, you're now locked out of EVERY SINGLE REPLY. Whoever okayed this design decision needs to have his/her fingernails removed.
Unreal how this left the studio with the Higher Ups nodding their heads and saying "we approve!" rather than "get the fuck out, you idiot. Your P45 will be in the post and no, don't bother coming back for your stuff, we're burning it all"
Keeping the gamepad plugged in, it automatically disables keyboard and mouse, wtf?
Yeah, it sucks. Just go to the in-game "gameplay" menu and disable "controller"
That "feature" carried on from FO: NV... I still remember being completely puzzled with what was going on, I think I even reinstalled it again and nothing, until I remembered to pull the derptroller plug out

Its part of the design. Your character suffered sever mental trauma and became instable. He's become erratic in his actions and this interface simulates that

I blame Bioware for starting this whole dialogue wheel craze. Is it really a massive inconvenience for gamepad users to have to select the right dialogue option from a normal list?
Ehhhh im stuck on the terminal, cant save, cant move, WTF.
Solutions?
Apparently a issue on some systems, playing in borderless or windowed mode seems to solve it.
(I posted the updated exe file from the beta patch a few pages back as well if you want to try that and see if it's one of the issues it might have fixed but you might prefer to wait until the patch is out of beta.)

The gamepad is not the problem. The assumed target player is considered to be someone, who would be put off by reading and carefully deciding his options. So the dialogue system was simplified to be faster and easier. Easier, because due to the lack of information, you cannot contemplate deeply on your options.

Or so I think.
It's a two fold effect though. The wheel limits the number of options AND the quantity of text that's displayed.
I just "wasted" about 30 minutes building a somewhat sexy dual tower defense at the hometown bridge.
-----------
Encountered a radition storm while building, damn. *me gusta*
-----------
The dialogue system indeed is worse than i imagined.
- When talking to someone, it takes several seconds before the conversation scene gets started. Sometimes i have to spam the talk button, as the NPCs just keep running away.
- Often three of the dialogue options are just "Maybe", "Yes" and "No". wtf.
-----------
The assignment of settlers to jobs is more than annoying.
First you have to select the settler, and then run to the target object you want them assigned to.
Also i can't seem to see if anyone or who is assigned to an object.
-----------
Also i again encountered that graphical bug whole screen gets some white glow or fog effect. Seems to be connected to when it starts raining.
-----------
That old lady somehow is standing on the roof at the hometown.
-----------
My dog disappeared. Already fast traveled to somewhere and slept. Awesome.
