Well iwill believe it when it's out.
I am rereading it at the moment as it happens
To be honest I can't see it working as a film especially the first book, and then the forth abd four point five ditch three main characters for most of it.
HBO / Showtime series yes, film ijust can't even.
Hope I am wrong though

Ok, found the new-ish news (from June).
http://www.ew.com/article/2015/06/02/nikolaj-arcel-director-dark-tower
Quote: | EW can confirm that Nikolaj Arcel will soon enter talks to direct the Dark Tower film. As Deadline first reported, the deal is far from complete, with talks yet to begin, but if Arcel boards the project, he could both direct and rewrite the script. The current version of the film is being written by Jeff Pinkner and Akiva Goldsman. |
Nothing new came since then so maybe he didn't sign..
Anyway his filmography:
Director:
Quote: | King's Game (2004)
Island of Lost Souls (2007)
Truth About Men (2010)
A Royal Affair (2012) |
All Danish movies.

Is this the most famous SK series? I think it's been in production longer than Daikatana, like 10 years.

oh boy. my fav. books..
i dont even dare to say something..
my belive is, that you cant put this story in a movie.. i did read all books more then once, and im not shure they can pull it off..
i do hope they can make something awesome, but i dont hold my hopes high..
And if, they pull it off, it needs to be more then one film, this is tooo big for one movie, this is even bigger then teh fucking Lord of the Rings..
i started reading teh dark tower very early and was impressed by it, then i was reading lord of the rings, and compared it to the dark tower, boy, Lord of teh rings is kindergarden if you compare it to teh Dark Tower..
at least thats they way i felt...
Well, if it flops, i still have my books, haha...

Funnily McConaughey has been rumored (although the director semi-denied it) as a candidate to play the villain in The Stand reboot. http://www.nfohump.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=2614697#2614697
And The Stand's villain "Randall Flagg"... is none other than The Dark Tower's villain!!
Stephen King Cinematic Universe here we go!

I like him very much. However, I don't like it when a character's ethnicity is changed for the sake of change.

Believable and relatable...Yep, sounds like Call of Duty

Never saw Roland as a hunkering 6'3 gunslinger. The casting directors will have a nice time finding villains with enough presence... and height
1 and 2 are still amazing.

Elba as Roland and McConaughey as "Walter Padick" confirmed.
Shooting begins next month.
New release date: February 17, 2017.
King says the movie won't be adapting the first book in the series but instead pick up the story at some other point. Much of the film takes place in today's times.
If the film becomes a success they want to tell the first book(s) they skipped over in the form of a prequel TV series.
Lastly since Stephen King himself appears as a character in later books the director wants King to play himself in sequels but King politely declined saying he's "too old".

Ugh... Elba.. hate that actor. Almost quit looking at the excellent The Wire because every scene with him was such a complete borefest.
Looking forward to it nonetheless especially since McConaughey is one of my favorite actors.

We just had to get Idris down our throats, didn't we? It was mandatory or something.
Next up he will be playing Jesus, God or Lincoln. Break down the barriers, yooo

From the above ew interview:
King says Eastwood was how he pictured the character at first, but as he wrote more and more Roland became.. Roland and he doesn't care if he's black in the film version.
Regarding the racial dynamics the director acknowledged some fans are worried that part of the book will be lost but he gave the non answer of "as the story progresses that will be made clear, how we’ll deal with all those things."
