I just checked the price for my wifes notebook on amazon us. It is 300 euros cheaper, including shipping and handling and import taxes deposit... Damn, is that normal? are there any downsides to order from amazon us if I'm living in germany?

If the import taxes are added, I'd so no except for the fact that you fall under US consumer rights which are pretty shitty so make sure you get enough warranty. And of course you'll have a US power lead - if you're lucky it will be the kind you can swap out with a standard PSU cable.
But it surprises me you'd get it that much cheaper considering the Euro is so weak and most countries easily pay 50% taxes on top of the purchase cost.

the power plug is not an issue, I always used my laptop (us plug) with a simple 2 euro adapter...

Asus ux305la, FHD version with 256GB SSD
ok in germany it's the i7 version, the us one was "just" the i5 but it's $715 vs 1099€ ...

Yeah ... it's not $715. I just checked and for Belgium, it comes to €884 after import tax deposit. Funny since the deposit is EXACTLY 21% = our VAT so it does not include the full amount which is an administrative cost (€50 usually) on top of that making it so not worth importing for. Good chance you'll have to pay the extra fees before you'll get the package.

It is $715. When you get it over here it costs in total like 847€ which is still 250€ cheaper than here

I think it says somewhere at amazon that the tax deposit includes all fees, doesnt it?

What? How is that even a question.
There are US military members in pretty much every country. England, Norway, Netherlands, Germany, Poland, etc.
One of the largest military bases on the Earth is Ramstein AFB in Germany.
Make friends with someone in the military over there and have them order you shit from the US for a lot cheaper free of any customs fees.

asus has global warranty, the different plug needs only a 2 euro adapter, and amazon price includes taxes...

Most consumer electronics these days have dual voltage power supplies. All you need is the stupid cheap dongle as mentioned.

depends on the hardware of a cheap dongle is enough, and now amazon.com price doesnt include taxes from outside of europe. you will get a nice letter from the toll that you have to drive there to pick up the package and pay the import tax. as red already did, the maths are
715usd price + toll tax 23,95 dollar = 693 euros * 1,19 (19% import tax) = 824,67 euros.
not included any shipping fee (most likely free with amazon) or us vat (which you may have to pay, depends on amazon location in the us). plus waiting time, plus us keyboard layout. and yes maybe asus claims about world wide warranty but thats not the complete truth, still depends on where you bought it if its us or global warranty entitled (think thats still the case for any oem, not only asus).
that are the maths with the pure numbers and kinda a timewaster cause if you change amazon.com to ship to germany it shows: $714.99 + $164.27 estimated fees. which is roughly the calculated 825 euros  but still it can cause toll problems which ends up in you need to drive there and blabla. for saving <200 euros on a device with only a i5 compared to the i7 in german devices its not worth it. and that zenbook isnt good available in germany too, that causes the higher price. could be expected to drop way below 1000 if enough shops have it in stock

I guess it depends on the country, but if I buy something from US amazon to brazil they include all the taxes in the shipping price. For 250 euro less I'd surely import it...
btw, I once had some books from US that didn't arrive on time, they gave me the money back and the books still arrived a couple of weeks later. I told them and they said I could keep both the money and the books. Amazon US is great for customers imo...

and i still dont know how amazon could pay the import tax for you, everytime i ordered something bigger (dunno afaik its about 25 euros net worth) from overseas (or english canal islands, which arent part of the eu) i had to pay it personally cause everybody could put a sticker on a package -> tax paid

Yeah duty officers can be real jerks though - they decide whether the value of a package is correct and whether something is second hand or not.
I bought a second hand PSP some years back and still had to pay import tax because they said "it looked too new to be second hand" which was BS because it didn't come with box, manual, etc. It was just the device and a case which the guy had already bought. I paid €150 for the device and paid €83!!! taxes. €50 duty fees + €33 VAT. Let's say I was less than pleased because you could get a brand new PSP for that money.

they do that cause many people try to smuggle new hardware without any boxes, accessories and ofc without bill and claim they bought months before and thats not imported stuff. and if a device has no scrachtes and whatever -> they claim its a new one and the joke is one you cause you have to proof that that isnt the case, almost impossible in your psp case

In this shitty country, the customs department is corrupt as fuck. I ordered a bicycle frame from the US, with shipping via FedEx, it cost me about 700 dollars all in all. I got taxed for nearly 900 dollars.
Or back in the day when I used to order physical books. If I were to buy a 15 dollar book from Amazon Japan, I would have to pay nearly double that in taxes. The first time this happened, I threw a fit at the courier's office because wtf kind of tax is it that is like 200% the value of your item? But nothing they can do, all up to the shitty customs guy who checks your stuff and I guess gets a kickback from the local courier reps since I still have to pay the cash to the courier otherwise they will burn my book after a set number of days.
After that happened 2 more times, I moved to just buying my books digitally from Kobo.
So I guess be glad you're not currently residing in a country that taxes you 200%.
Also for a laptop, I always get my laptops from the US (Sager), but it's through a guy who sells imported stuff. He probably has a connections in customs or something because not much markup from the SRP. So see if you have someone that offers that sort of service.

so you can order hard alc which is allowed to be sold to people >18 years old with no extra fee and if you order fsk18 titles you need to pay 5 euros extra fee for showing the postman your id? (its not even postident which would be needed one time only) great work amazon, great work
