And yes, South Park has always had certain types of people frothing with anger and calling for censorship, but I think we all know those certain types have gotten louder and more prevalent than ever before. I feel like we can't go a single day without reading how some university has gone crazy with some new kind of ridiculous type of censorship/bullshit. And these are the people who will grow up to sadly become decision makers.
I loved the way South Park did things before but I actually don't mind this whole continuity thing they're going with either. But I am very biased in this regard since everything they've made fun of this season are things I agree with them on. I do still prefer the earlier seasons though, they had better bite back then. |
Well put Yondi  , I agree with everything you said. It feels different, but not in a bad way in my opinion, as the continuity is something that reinforces the important context week after week.
They are actually treating it with class (more than I initially imagined, I expected more..rudeness so to speak xD), making the targets of the mocking look like complete fools (which is what they are). South Park is the only 'medium' that blatantly exposes them, so they deserve the praise.

Perhaps the finale felt a tad rushed, but it still was amusing. It's likely that the future Fractured but Whole food will take inspiration from this season's direction (the final scene would confirm it), and it woud make even more sense given the gaming context. I want to play as the PC principal!

Truthfully I haven;t really watched South Park for a few years, but will give this season a go. Still some laughs to be had for sure.

From how I see it, they're fundamentally a symbolism of nostalgia, and especially of how the medias are abusing it in many ways (from the silly reboots to the whole 'let's make america great again'), always trying to make people remember about the past and how better it was, only in a conveniently distorted (conservative  ) way.
