Not this one, no. Almost every other FF title is completely standalone (exceptions are Final Fantasy 10 and its sequel 10-2, and Final Fantasy 7 with its spin-offs Dirge of Cerberus and Crisis Core... and finally Final Fantasy XII with its sequel/spin-off; Revenant Wings) but the Final Fantasy XIII trilogy are intertwined and you really can't play one without the others.. not unless you want to be even more confused by the already deeply convoluted plots.

Skip the latest Final Fantasy titles then Laughing Get Tales of Zestiria, it's magnificent, or the Trails in the Sky titles too.

I'll check them out, thanks for the tip. I've been following this thread on and off, didn't seem too promising.

The manual shows that all keys can be changed and how odd their default layout is.

I hope they at least gave it proper controller support through xinput this time and that it'll actually have vibration. Laughing

It was on sale for a short time on GMG with a price of $20 like 13-2 but they took it off.

Price is $20 like 13-2 and it will have 10% off for a week on steam when the sale actually begins (GMG has a 22% off december coupon, maybe it'll work, maybe not). It's buyable in the NA Square-Enix store for a while now.

Steam page updated, it actually has a few on/off options compared to what we got in the older games. Question is, will it still have that awful frame-pacer thing...

Key functionality features of LR:FFXIII
Supports graphics options intended for high-end PCs:
- Rendering resolution
- Scaling of the display area
- Shadow processing
- Texture filters
- Colour correction
- Depth of field
- Lighting
- Glare

Supports full screen and windowed display modes
Supports a maximum frame rate of 60fps
Supports Full HD display with a maximum resolution of 1920x1080

And there are some comparison shots showing the difference between "something", from gamespot.
No description there either, the names had off/on at the end. Left is off, right is on.

Max res of 1920x1080 on this too? Guess Durante will have to fix it again so we can get some downsampling going plus of course having a way for those with newer monitors so they can play at 2560x1440 and beyond. Very Happy

So this is out tomorrow.

I want to play it as the combat looks pretty good, but I have yet to even get to the part where XIII isn't a long linear corridor let alone even start the second one Sad

I played the first 2 on my PS3 and they were ok, but I didn't really enjoy them too much.
13 had a decent story and an interesting world but shitty characters and the combat was a chore sometimes. Just way too much class switching going on, it's a hassle.
Also the character skill progression system was just plan boring.
As we all know it was also linear as fuck.

Tried 13-3 on my hacked ps3 for a little bit when it came out, and the combat seemed to be fun, but it still didn't draw me in like basically every final fantasy did before 13 came around. At least it seemed fairly open with several areas to visit early on in the game and side quests and such.
Something came up and I never continued past 3 hours or so, so I'm gonna grab this on PC tomorrow I think and give it another shot.

So Much Win

Hopefully this will be a good game and port. The other recent FF game (FF 0 HD i think) got bad rather quickly.

It's better than the other 2 but don't expect anything groundbreaking. If it's a good port (I doubt) you can give it a shot. The series need a reset, restart, call it whatever you like.

It's said to feature more original content and less re-used assets and areas but apparently of worse quality due to a lower budget and time pressure.

Besides the aforementioned resolution lock it seems like it should be the best port of the XIII trilogy games but I hope they patch the other two games though I doubt that will happen.
(XIII and XIII-2 should support up to "4K" now but there's various engine problems with them unfortunately.)

Lots of new costumes as well but I have absolutely no idea if anything has been removed compared to the PS3 original, also no idea if there's a difference between US/EU and JP versions in terms of content and if there is if any of the JP content might be featured in the Steam version, I don't think there's anything licensed in Lighting Returns though so probably it'll work out better than it did for XIII-2 (XIII had no bonus item content I believe, maybe some accessory item perhaps.)

EDIT: Some 7-day in-game timer too but as I understood it that can be altered/reset so no immediate time pressure but I could be wrong about that, it's only what I've read after all.
(No pressure though, it's just the end of the world, or what's left of it at least after, well certain events to maybe limit spoilers of events in the previous two games.)

EDIT: Oh and while not related FF Tactics 0 or what it's name was shares the same "Nova crysalis" origin story as FF13 trilogy but I don't think it's very closely related besides being set in the same universe so nothing too important there.

The backgrounds are probably the most noticeable difference for me, with the image on the right displaying clearer fidelity which improves the whole scene. The foreground is identical from what I can see, but otherwise it's almost indistinguishable had I not known.

(Menu/logo framerate so don't take as proof the game is running at 30 FPS during normal play.)

EDIT: In the Graphics options set Framerate from fixed to dynamic and now it's 60 Smile

Some quick screenshots.
 Spoiler:

Runs well enough but it looks a bit dated even with the "advanced" effects enabled, no stuttering or frame drops though so that's improved but even though you can edit the config file it won't allow for resolutions above 1080p from what I've tried so far however ReShade is compatible so a bit of SMAA worked at least.

Seems a bit disorienting at first so far, lots to take in at the start of the game though I do remember the events from XIII and XIII-2 fairly well so I'll probably get back into it though once again they've altered the gameplay mechanics a bit with combat being more active so it'll take a while to get used to those changes but so far things look good. Smile

EDIT: Hmm upon some further checking it almost seems like that the resolution only applies to windowed mode and in fullscreen it unfortunately stretches and upscales so my images above as a result of that are a bit blurrier than they should have been.
(I assume it upscales from 720P unfortunately but that's how it is until someone mods it.)

Denuvo on FF6 or this one ? Aww Yeah

The protection will cost alot, no way they would implement it into those oldschool games.

Wonder what happens if one screws with the preset screen resolutions?
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=450891549

So 1920x1080 -> 80 07 00 00 38 04

And there's only one hit in the LRFF13.exe so if I replace that with 3840x2160 ??...

Well it didn't work but this did.

Use Cheat-Engine and search for 1920, switch to 1280 and search for that, repeat until you have four or so values left, change all of them until the res changes.

Now do the same for 1080 and 720 and you've got vertical too. Very Happy
(Someone with actual skill should be able to make a pretty simple table for doing this in a easier way.)

Game just froze in the beginning, when i went into the menu with ESC. Had to restart my PC, as task manager wasn't opening and the games window didn't close.
// Crash is related when MSI Afterburner overlay was active.

And for what fucking reason are my settings not getting saved in the ingame menu?! For example camera sensitivity and on-screen button layout get reset every time. Embarassed

Also how the fuck can you change the game settings when you enabled fullscreen mode? I mean all of those items in the menu bar, when the game starts in window mode. Have to ALT+Enter again if i want to change something.

Either i have really bad luck with this game, or it is a shittier port than the others. Even with the 60fps option.
