Hmmmmm, that Blu-ray Disc should be a Day One buy. But do I buy the BR this December, or wait for the new boxset in 2016 after Season 10? Or do I wait for FOX to officially announce a Season 11 for 2017?
By the time Season 10 will be coming to Blu-ray you will have heard rumors about whether Fox wants an 11th Season. So you can decide around that time if you want to wait further. For now skip this first release.
TWIN PEAKS is "something of a miracle."
"...like nothing else on television."
"a phenomenon."
"A tangled tale of sex, violence, power, junk food..."
"Like Nothing On Earth"
When 20th Century Fox decided they wanted to fully remaster the cult classic sci-fi series 'The X-Files' in high definition, they turned to one of the premier production facilities in the United States; Illuminate.
Cool! Let's see how they approached this!

What resolution was the negative scanned at and what was the final output resolution?
For this project, it was 1920x1080.
.........
I think the X-Files made them go full retro.

The truth is out there… and we’ve got the inside story on the thrilling return of The X-Files. Go behind the scenes with Chris Carter, David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson and all the key players as they reveal secrets from the set and take you on the epic journey of bringing this classic series back to Fox.
Gawd looks like it was forced on carter to do this.
Filler dialogue... They had a kid... Fucking ignore it... They had years to talk out the problems.
Jesus... Looking at the current celebrities they used ugh....
I'm just beyond hyped to see dialogue about William, regardless of the time period. And I don't really see anything wrong with the celebrities being used. Annet Mahendru has been fantastic in The Americans, imo. Joel McHale seems random but I always liked him well enough in Community. I don't think I've been this hyped about a TV show in decades!!!
I don't think you remember x-files all that well. It never had that great of dialogue either. What made x-files outstanding for the time was that it was one of the first prime time TV shows to have a real story arc that kept people watching. X-Files itself is pretty shit these days watching it. I skip over all the monster of the week worthless episodes and just stick with the story arc episodes. A few monster of the week episodes are worth watching, but most aren't.
FYI they have the 1080p remasters of these up on amazon prime so if you already have prime there is no reason to buy/download the blurays.

The X-Files may have had some sporadic clunker episodes due to its inanely high episode order in the 1990s, but most of the episodes had stellar writing and dialogue. Scully's monologue in 'Memento Mori' still gives me chills. Imho, Vince Gilligan's XF scripts hold up better than anything else airing on television in 2015. I just re-watched 'Bad Blood' and 'Triangle' and they hold up perfectly fine. Pretty much God-tier television. I'm so ridiculously hyped right now for Season 10 I feel like I'm going to literally melt down and burst into flames.
Nah, the Fargo TV show without a doubt is a better show in pretty much every way compared to x-files.
x-files is still fun to watch, and it isn't bad, but without a doubt there have been better TV shows coming out in the past couple of years. I also recently started watching black flag and i'm quite impressed with that show. A lot of lesbo/sex bullshit in it but it's a well written and acted show outside of those worthless lesbo scenes.
I never got into X-Files when I was a teenager because so much of it felt like a carrot dangling in front of a donkey. "Here's another possibly alien monster! Oh whoops, turns out the episode ends with everything suddenly vanishing and Mulder not having a single scrap of evidence it ever existed!". It annoyed me enough to not want to bother watching it anymore. The arching story episodes that I saw were far more interesting to me because at least there was some progress there instead of a giant RESET button at the end of every episode.

Err, no, sorry.
Simply no.
It can be true for *some* episodes, but in general X-Files is still better than a new generation series like Fargo, and maaaaany of others.
I've seen recently all the HD episodes and it simply wasn't one of those "nice because is nostalgic" cases: it simply is rock solid, even 20 years later.
Even if it has got many clichè monsters/plots.
Even if most of "ufo" based episodes don't solve anything in the end.
Characters, ideas, dialogues: everything is still top notch stuff.
A bunch of retarded whiteneck gangsters fighting each other can't top that: even if everything is well conceived and acted.
Usually a compare between different genre is not doable, but in this case differences are so evident that can't be ignored.
Anyway Fargo has Ufos, so....
Btw...WHY? GOD, WHY?

Fargo??? Fargo wasn't even the best show of 2015, let alone even remotely comparable to The X-Files. I just re-watched The X-Files S1 on Blu-Ray. The show looks ***GORGEOUS*** in HD and I'd say the Pilot, Deep Throat, Squeeze, Ice, Eve, Beyond the Sea, EBE, Darkness Falls, Tooms, and The Erlenmeyer Flask all had acting, writing, dialogue, and cinematography that easily matches or eclipses anything new on TV today. I can't even think of a single episode of Fargo or Black Sails that could hold up against Beyond the Sea --- that script was an absolute masterclass in writing. Brad Dourif and Gillian Anderson knocked it out of the park. Even Breaking Bad, which I felt was a pretty good contemporary drama a few years ago, was imho nowhere in league with The X-Files back when XF was in its prime.
There are some pretty shit episodes as well though!
And this comes from someone who's a big X-files fan...
lol, yeah The X-Files also had its share of epic fail episodes like First Person Shooter or Space.
That being said, The X-Files is a 202 episode TV drama moving into its 10th season. It's cultural phenomenon that has spanned 3 decades. I mean, yeah, something like Fargo S2 is certainly more "consistent", but it's a 10 episode anthology miniseries with a revolving cast. But I'd rather watch The X-Files at its best over anything else in production right now just due to its sheer amount of "world building" --- except perhaps Twin Peaks Revival.
