How long is the LotV campaign compared to WoL and HotS?

It's longer than both I think. This one had 20 missions, and a 3 missions epilogue. If you haven't played the prologue, then it is yet 3 more missions. HotS had 27, but a few of those were just evolution missions.

Some copypaste missions with new doodads, textures and mumbojumbo compared to WoL and HoTS as has been said, but overall a great campaign so far (about to finish it on Hard) Smile

I wanted to play Heart of the Swarm back in the day because I like the Zerg, but the zoomed-in camera made me puke. Has there ever been a mod or fix released that allows for zooming further out?

Also, is LotV the same in terms of perspective? Making you feel like you're playing on 640 x 480 resolution?

Just played the first mission.
And god damn, the camera really is zoomed in.
I guess it was the same in the previous two games. But it's so long ago, that i can't remember.

I wish there was a way to zoom out more. Feels claustrophobic.

I think they've done a great job with these games, there's a decent challenge in the harder difficulties, the i usually dont care about give it a fair amount of replayability and challenge.

- My only negatives are, 300ms multiplayer , basically unplayable.
- the missions maybe too streamlined, its like new unit = must use new unit

Install Starcraft 1 to see what's really zoomed in. It's horrible, and I don't remember it being that way Sad

It's intentionally zoomed in and a design decision I remember hearing from the dev's during beta when people asked about the zoom. They apparently did it for the esport factor to leave an element of difficulty managing the map and allow sneak attacks etc like the original game.

Sometimes i kinda wish they left the limited selection groups and gimped unit AI down to skill like the original game. So many epic SC1 games where 30-40 food armies micro'd like a badass beating 150 food armies Very Happy

If you have a spare 20mins watch the game below, remember limited unit selection groups, micro'ing attack group positions.. just in awe watching these guys play.. SC2 shuffling your A-Move and your units move pretty efficiently makes the game very different.

Thanks, I won't bother with it, then.

I know it's a conscious (and fucked-up) design decision due to e-sports shit, but why not enable advanced zooming in SP? That's idiotic.

Yeah I can see pro and con's to both sides, they could also have also done a pro and casual league where one that was like broodwar and the other with all the modernization and larger viewpoint.

The games are just worlds apart in terms of skill and speed to play. I think my main gripe is the newer rendition doesn't allow small micro'd armies to beat large deathballs. Nothing greater than the weaker player pulling off a reaver drop or psi storming the shit out of dominant player and ruining their day.

Also for the argument "I want my RTS about strategy not engine limitations / 300 apm etc". How can you possibly avoid this unless you remove resources and building from the game? Even SupCom looking at pro play sucked, it was just max all metal/enegy output with units from factories to overwhelm opponent, basically played completely out of the minimap view close to no strategy or micro > just raw speed

i guess there's always C&C 4 Vomit, maybe revisiting game-play from Z?
