Try running hdd regenerator, I remember when I had a problem with one of my drives with bad sectors (over 2000 of them) ran this software once it fixed all of them, I use the drive now for a year and no hickup yet.

I'll give that a shot. But if it doesn't work, I'll just order a new one. Western Digital seems to be okay from what I just read, I can get this one "WD 2TB BLUE WD20EZRZ" for a decent price here.

okay..maybe I won't try that.. $99? I can get a new HD for $80. I'll think about that one.

It seems like Hitachi (HGST) drives are pretty good these days. They are owned by Western Digital, but I assume they are still producing their drives independently. If your choice is Toshiba, WD, or Seagate, I'd go for a WD personally.

thanks. I'm moving the game back to another drive with space on it to make sure it's fine, and then I'll probably order up a new one. don't want to risk anything with my pictures folder.

Don't know if Seagate is bad, but my 0.5 TB Seagate is running over 6 years now. Still no bad sectors or anything yet. And that dive saw crazy amount of read/write, because before i took 128 GB SSD for the OS it was the only drive i had. Maybe their 1-2 TB versions are bad or something.

@crossmr
I really doubt the game fucked up the HDD (if its fucked up at all).
IMO you should run hiren's bood cd with bootable disk/flash drive to checkout for bad sectors

be careful and don't buy any of variable speed drives (Green, red, purple, scalability), if you really want a reliable HDD buy a WD black or raid black edition, they cost more but if you have data that you don't want to loose, few bucks now will save some headakes later.

I always used WD drives never lost a byte of data, well I did have problem with WD green drive once but never lost any data, never used raid.

I remember when all we had was a floppy disk, to write the data on. Smile Monocrome orange and green monitors, CGA was a luxury. Smile

It's definitely messed up. The hard drive is basically used for nothing else, and haven't been doing much with my pictures since I installed FO4. So the only thing that's been running on that drive is FO4. Load time went from a few seconds to like 5 minutes, the game is completely messed up, and even going into a folder in my pictures is pretty bad. Takes a long time to load any thumbnails and opening a picture which was instant, now takes a few seconds. It's clear something is wrong with the device.

edit: just loaded it up after copying it over to the other drive. perfectly fine. Save loads in about 5 seconds, and no stuttering.

Me too, my first machine was an 8088 with 5.25" floppies. Loved that thing. We did start with a CGA though. I'll probably get the blue, it seems sufficient, I've got 3 seagates in my machine now. It looks like I might have bought this drive in April. About 7 months ago.. I think I could get warranty on it, but then I'd still have a seagate. I've looked at some failure numbers on them now and they're pretty bad.

Well, it is little offtopic but I remember one of the Splintercell games had Starforce and there was app smth like StarForceKiller. I run this great app and my HDD died. Don't know why and how. And I've got only Seagate drivers for last like 20 years and they are all OK.

Anyways... on F4 - I am going to buy F4 as soon as CK/GECK will get released. Some great mods will come after for sure. Maybe it will be cheaper by then. For game with such small map it is damn expensive. Like 50% more expansive than W3 and look how big map was there.

Star-Force back in it's day replaced system drivers and interfered with IDE connections and much more so it's a wonder it didn't break more than it did.
(Plus like SecuROM and Tages back then it was almost at a root-kit level of deep integration with files you couldn't remove and hidden registry strings.)

I'm level 26, and I'm done I think. This game has a severe lack of proper lore, humor and surprise. Everything is extremely predictable, I feel like I'm playing the same game I played years before, only upgraded. It's a damn shame they finally figured out they can't recycle shit in the gamworld, yet fucked up a lot of other things. I know people say this game is made for exploring (like all Beth games), but what exactly is the point? I feel like I already explored this gameworld, so damn predictable.
Missions were pretty dull IMO, it's basically go there and find/kill that. I care nothing for the factions, predictable. I care nothing for the characters (mayb Velantine), predictable. You know how my romance with Piper went? "hey blue you sexy" -> flirt -> romance? -> sexy time. Da fuck is that? Maybe I've played too many Bethesda games by now, they haven't evolved properly for years. There's a lot of content, I applaud them for that, but it's all soulless. I really liked Skyrim, this is a step backwards.

I won't need to repeat they turned this game in a shooter with even less RPG, everyone can see that.

At level 26, not done with the main mission (though I read it's not anything special): 7.5/10.

Pretty much this, even though I'm level 46, 54 hours in.

Skyrim is a much better game overall.

The exploration part I don't get. Since it's not like a lot of these areas have any real reward. A safe containing useless guns isn't really appealing.

They also rely too much on having places tell stories via terminals. It's just not very appealing.

Engine has to go.

The tone of the game was set when 15 minutes after the intro sequence of the game you're decked out in power armor and have just killed a deathclaw.

Why do people make such a huge deal out of that? I thought it was clever to give players a taste of what the power armor is like and you do need the power cores to use it + by default it isn't all that good until you upgrade it. The chain gun was a bigger "mistake" compared to the power armor but since it eats tons of ammo, it's a pretty meh weapon anyway.

I think a bigger beef of mine, is that they kinda screwed up the VAT balance - it's pointless now to use VAT - even sniping rifles get a pretty bad %-to-hit score compared to manual aiming when the enemy is not that close. I pretty much only use VAT in tense and close encounters where I want to get several quick shots in.

But, one point I do agree with that was made earlier, is that Bethesda has kinda given up trying to have a realistic world. FO3 at least tried to keep up appearances but in FO4 it feels as if the war was only 50 years before instead of 200. Too much stuff is in great condition - the cars are in far better condition than they were in FO3 for example. Also, still having tables and parasols at the beach with bottles and stuff is pretty dumb - it wouldn't have taken more than a year for all that to get washed away.

Personally I'd really love a mod that tweaks the world to be more in keeping with how long ago the bombs fell. More devastated cars, no more edible produce locked away in places that have been abandoned for centuries, no easy-to-find loot in open places, etc. Basically, make it feel more like a lived-in-world where people have been scavenging, where stuff like Nuka Cola bottles aren't to be found in street-vending machines.

I love games like STALKER that really do their universe justice but it kinda disappoints me that Bethesda has given up on trying to make the world feel "right" for its setting.

A taste? I had 2 power cores when i jumped in and "almost" every marked location of the map has at least 1 core. Besides, there are Power Armors around every corner and many containers have multiple cores in them. Dead BoS Knights are even worse... 10+ cores on them most of the time.

The game just has nothing to offer in terms of progression. You get PA shoved up your ass right from the getgo. Loot is complete arse. The crafting makes it even worse. There is almost no truly unique gear in the game. 95% of so called unique gear have the same effect as legendary drops...

So what exactly am I looking forward to in this game? The fantastic writing/quests? Laughing (I totally agree with Mister_s there)

The game is a fucking sightseeing tour for simpletons.

People complained alot about Skyrim, myself included.. but this one is even worse.

I can't believe they denied Obisidan their bonus... and then have the gaul to produce this heap of junk.

(I should point out that I'm more sad than angry about this whole matter... Sad )

To chime in on the FO4 hate that I happen to absolutely agree with: last night I had enough of the 1-2 fps "performance" I was getting in the area of DC, so I fired up Fallout 3 instead. With the FWE mod.

My oh my, I've been having a blast ever since. The atmosphere is brilliant, especially compared to the 4th instalment.

The esp/esm file system that makes modding so viable isn't something exclusive to gamebryo, they could port that system to other engines if they had the desire.

We are talking Bethesda though who are extremely lazy at the best of times.

I can't drag myself to play anymore; the exploration was fine until i had enough of raider strongholds, mutant strongholds, base building, base defending, and same old places filled with generic loot. Some other important ingredients of a good RPG - like interesting story, unique characters you grow attached to - are sorely lacking. Hell. i'm 50+ hours in game and can't remember most of my companions names, except Curie for some reason.
The FNV:Old World Blues DLC by itself was better than the whole F4.

Well actually...

I made a new character so i can start over again on survival.

After leaving the vault i didnt procede to the first little settlement but turned left (or right?) and followed the ridge.
After hearing a couple of shots in the distance a saw a guy in armor shooting one of those dog things
After he killed it i went over to meet the chap.

Then i pickpocketed his battery from the suit and he got out. (because hey no power lol)

So there i was a level 2 char with that suit lmao

Very Happy

finished with the game...the more i played it, the more i hated it lol, also my first bethesda game and maybe my last. it was a 9/10 at first but in the end it's a 7 at most. such a big downgrade after witcher 3

also the loading screens lol what a big fucking mess this game is. this had to be like the first priority for bethesda to remove them and make a seamless transition just like rocksteady did with arkham knight or other current games. halfway through the game i stopped entering new buildings couse of that
