The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant.

Darn it!

Each time this gets bumped I expect some miracle patch that would let me go back to play this game properly...

Well, after downloading 50 gigs of data, installing it all and playing for 5 hours, I still can't get into it Sad It runs good enough now, Paris looks so fucking beautiful, it makes me sad. Something is wrong with the game, I can't figure out what. I'll just stop messing with this.
I downloaded and installed both this and FC4 during an idiot moment, let's see how FC4 turns out.

I'm in a similar state regarding Unity. I have it installed, and based on the features and properties it should be the best AC game for me... and yet, I still can't play it for more than 1hr straight without getting bored. I guess some people are just not made to enjoy AC games.

They fixed a lot with the patches that Unity received following the months after it's initial release although some of the clutter around the streets of paris were apparently simplified / removed and the NPC spawn in / appear at closer range now though still in rather large groups although some glitches can occur such as having them floating in the air.
(The tessellation update was silently cancelled as well, would have been nice but the framerate hit for a few roof shingles having some actual depth to them probably wouldn't have been worth it.)

EDIT: The expansion area still uses a pretty strong implementation of chromatic aberration as well, guess it's Ubisoft's attempt at making it more cinematic.

What hardware and setting are you playing it on Bobs?

It performs flawlessly over here and looks absolutely astounding. I can't think of any recent open world game which can match it's level of detail. The lighting, especially in the ruin areas of the DLC, look spectacular. Just look at the texture details; it's amazing.

Personally, I love this engine far more than any other Ass Creed engines out there. It really delivered on the technical front.

On my specs it ran pretty damn good and looked good too. Yes it couldve run better on older hardware, but with a new pc its the best assassins creed game.

This is the only AC game I've finished to date, if this really is their best effort... Neutral

AC 1 set the foundation for the series with Desmond and the modern-time story and Altair and the Assassin vs Templar thing, you also are an assassin in that game though the side activities are fairly horrible and the collectibles aren't all too great.
(You get equipment from ranking up by finishing missions mostly, no particular DLC either though the PC version was "downgraded" when Ubisoft "for some reason" removed DX10.1 support although it mostly affected MSAA performance and introduced a slight glitch with shadows I believe.)

AC 2, Brotherhood and Revelations follows up on the mechanics introduced in AC 1 while expanding on several on them, it's a bit dated by now and some people don't really like Eizo that much but it's a OK game although playing through the entire "trilogy" of Eizo's life story in one go is probably going to be a bit tiring even if each installment tweaked and added a couple of unique features.
(Not all DLC were released on PC but it mostly regards side missions I believe, nothing terribly important.)

AC 3 switched game engine and has really solid gameplay systems like combat and the like but I really don't like Connor much as a character though he is kinda understandable at least, also first attempt at boat combat in a small side area.
(Lots of stuff introduced with this game while others like the control system were made a bit simpler and there's more varied environments as well.)

AC 4 was basically a naval game in the AC universe although they attempted to further the story a bit after the "conclusion" to the Desmond arc in AC 3, not too bad although not exactly about Assassin's and Templar's much as Edward is initially more about personal glory though he gets mixed up in events a bit beyond his control.
(And in the process kinda fucks things up for all his buddies too and then Ubisoft just kills him off in a side story. Very Happy )

AC Rogue is AC 4 but from a Templar side and with some smaller tweaks to the naval setting, not as big of a game but eh it was fun to do the storyline although landing on every fucking little island for collectibles wasn't something I bothered with though I checked a few places.

Unity goes back a bit to AC: Brotherhood (But without a brotherhood. Razz ) with a single larger setting (Plus Versailles and the DLC story area I suppose.) and I really liked it but technical issues made the game pretty rough and after the patches the visuals took a slight hit but I wasn't especially bothered myself until I checked comparisons and could actually see a difference pre and post update.

Syndicate is, well it's Unity with two playable characters and a couple of budget cuts. Very Happy
(Story isn't terribly interesting but the Jack DLC seems like it could be OK but I haven't finished it yet so maybe not.)

(That's Jack as in Jack the Ripper by the way and not Jack the Stripper whom apparently also existed when I tried checking, thought it would be some meme or funny picture which it was too but apparently there's a real case as well.)

EDIT: And yeah there's more to say with how AC 1 had these repeating tasks and pretty horrible "stealth" and blending mechanics although the main assassination missions were nice.

AC 2 added stuff you could buy and renovate to open stores and get actual equipment from, various colors for your outfits and a "unique" set of items and armor from doing a longer series of tasks, Brotherhood and Revelations also had this and introduced stuff of their own like managing assassins in Brotherhood and the hook-blade in Revelations which is a bit like the grappling hook in Syndicate but you actually have to do a bit of work so it's not as casual. Razz

AC 3 furthered this with crafting and ship combat, different stuff like being able to use rifles (Improved in AC 4 plus you had multiple pistols too.) and more stuff like rope darts and more varied missions plus many other tweaks, there's the Washington alternate history DLC too but I didn't play much of that.

Didn't mention Freedom Cry, that's a bit like Adewale from AC 4 going "Machete" on a bunch of slavers on a remote island no-one heard of before. Very Happy
(There's some other story stuff but it's a bit about him and his continued story until Ubisoft again killed off a character though this time they let you do it in AC: Rogue along with almost every other assassin in that game really heh.)

Didn't get much progress with Aveline either and her "handheld" adventure port game but it's apparently not that great though it might be worth a playthrough as it's a bit different in how you have a "set" of outfits that limit what you can do and can't do among other things.

What's there to say for AC 4? Improvements to the naval side of AC 3 mostly with a much larger almost open world for sea travel and exploration plus the diving missions of course and stuff like fort takeovers and legendary naval battles plus sea creature hunting.

Rogue there's not much else to say about, more of AC 4 really but from a different perspective and some new environments though there's no more diving.

Unity overhauled the game engine again, controls are also again streamlined a bit and they almost entirely removed the preset-day stuff besides flashback sequences or how to call them, made into pre-rendered movie sequences in Syndicate.

Syndicate has the two characters that are almost the same although some skills are exclusive to Jacob and Evie so Evie becomes marginally better at stealth (And can go entirely invisible briefly eventually.) whereas Jacob just punches things better or slams into horse carriages. Very Happy
(London looks a bit like arse compared to Paris in Unity but maybe that's true in real life too. Very Happy )

AC4 is my favourite, then AC2 and Brotherhood.

Other games of the series are just crap with the same gameplay since AC2. Laughing
I still can't understand how people keep buying this every year and even waste so much time to 100% it.

And @JB: What the hell with your walls of text always! grinhurt Very Happy
