Terminator Genisys: 6.5/10

MUCH MUCH better than expected. Actually the first half was really good! Up until the major plot spoiler from the trailers (oh those trailers were bad!). After that the quality of the movie drops rapidly. Still miles ahead of 4 and even better than 3. Emilia Clarke was bad, the script had holes like a swiss cheese, which were super obvious in the second half of the movie where even the action scenes went to shit and absolutely no coherent decision was made. If the movie had continued like in the first hour, this could've been easily 7.5 or 8/10.

You liked the first half which basically the retelling of T1 & T2 with slight twist and the second half was birthed by the half-witted minds of screenwriters.

Yes, but it also had less stupid shit happening in the action scenes. I mean it's a sci fi movie about robots taking over the world but

Crimson Peak (2015)

It's a very beautiful film, it has a fantastic setting, good actors... and a very predictable story +some shitty dialogue in the end

crimson peak...

entertaining and beautiful to look at, but if you actually stop to think about it, then you realise how it doesnt quite deliver on a number of levels, especially in terms of story...

so, great for one or two watches, but not quite THE fantastic thriller/horror film i was hoping for...

and i do find myself confused by the whole book thing..
 Spoiler:

6/10 is about right. I think it lacked grandeur (it felt quite small scale to be honest), it wasnt scary enough to be a horror, and it wasn't intriguing enough in the 'reveal' for it to hold up as a drama... i enjoyed it, but such a pity that it wasn't more.

Crimson Peak - 7/10

With truly impressive set design, costumes, camera work, lighting and in general cinematography (save for the snowy scenes) the movie is a delight for the eyes - if nothing else. And the short length of the movie (1h 50m without credits) certainly helps not to overstay its welcome.

With better integrated ghost elements to the main plot instead of being there for the sake of flavor I would give it a 8/10.

only overthinking it precisely because it kept niggling away at my mind towards the end, and after it finished, which is why i tried to figure out why i didnt like it... and i found out exactly why. it really is the kind of movie where the more you think about it, the less you like it sadly Sad

The problem is that this "mystery" is delivered kinda badly.. I guessed what would happen and what had happened pretty early including

and it kinda ruined the film for me.

Another thing..revealing an important part of the story via a monologue (I'm talking about the sister)? Wow..now that was just lazy. Even without actually improving the story it could have been delivered in a much better, much more dramatic way...

OK so I have on my to watch list
Birdman
The Men From Uncle
--

And I need a horror movie recommendation:

Jacobs Ladder
Session 9
1408 and Silent Hill

Which one? Movie shouldn't be too old and session 9 and jacobs ladder might be too old, so it's either 1408 or Silent Hill. I remember both to be ok (Silent Hill even a bit better?) But I think I only saw the theatrical cut of 1408.. is the DC that much better?

Whoa, just saw the trailer to it follows http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3235888/ ! That looks good! Anyone seen it? Smile

Saving Mr. Banks - 8/10

A very pleasant surprise, with the right mix of comedy and deeper themes, and great acting from practically everyone involved. The result exceeded my expectations (I was prepared for something more..childish) and instead the story was 'fictionalized' in the right, mature way, also thanks to the solid cinematography.

Pretty good movie, good acting and it felt quite authentic. Expected it to be a bit more brutal, but its brutal enough as it is. Nice that they didn't go for a cliché ending. Smile

Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials - 4/10

Filled with bad acting and writing - this has to one of the thinnest of plots you can find - this movie is as unlikable as the previous one in the series. The difference is that the bigger budget has allowed a number of half decent set pieces and visual effects (for a $60M film anyway) thus I decided to rate this with 1 point higher.

It was a fine film but Zemeckis IMO failed his attempt to do it in French artsy style.
Nice tibute to WTC nevertheless.

The Visit - 3/10

Ridiculously scripted, directed and acted this movie doesn't disappoint. It's certainly something that you won't see often unless you are into bad movies perhaps - after all there's a fetish for everyone and I won't judge you.

Few people could have made what Shyamlan did with this picture. It's like a mind altering drug or something, my mind has been expanded in ways I didn't know were possible before. Bravo!!

Star Wars: The Force Awakens 6/10

Main plot points were copied from original trilogy. What was more unfortunate was that random lucky coincidences were copied from prequels
(similar things like how in Star wars 1, a kid was able to blow up a droid control ship) .

Felt somewhat similar like yearly reskinned releases in games (AC,CoD).

So, basically, direction itself was good, decent adventure, decent acting ( new actors - started awful, but got better towards the end), music was decent (although no new memorable themes) and writing was pretty lazy. They took a safe route and added very little new. Pluss to make it all stick together or make somewhat of a sense, they added some convoluted coincidences.

Seems like most of it was made, so they could sell some new merch.

IMAX, especially 3D was not worth it.
Moreover, after the movie ended some fanboy heard me and my friend talking about this movie how it is an okish movie. We were told to shut up... Was quite funny Smile , had more laughs about that than in a movie.

Sicario (2015)

8/10

It was really good but it could have been better tbh .. or maybe I was just too hyped and expected too much...

PS Great cinematography and soundtrack that's for sure.

PPS The scene with Alejandro and the ******'s family was very satisfying So Much Win ..and dat ending.

honestly, i thought it was overhyped.

it was an ok film... great cast (love brolin), but the pacing wasn't as tight as it could have been, the
 Spoiler:

and it just ultimately wasn't an overly compelling story. Yeah it was sufficently well told, but I wouldn't say it was gripping and it had nothing overly deep or complex to it.

I also found the female character and her constant outbursts, inability to follow orders and constant freakouts to be really really annoying and i would say unbelievable for a character in her position. I get that she was idealistic, but given her history and her selection for the role, youd expect SOME level of professionalism and calm that she just seemed to completely lack... she was annoying as hell.

so yeah... an OK film, not boring or anything, just nothing as special as the imdb rating would suggest.

But i knew nothing about it before watching it, hadn't seen the trailer 2 or 3 months ago, so i guess I didn't have the benefit of hype building up to seeing it.
