"In the EU, consumer protection legislation guarantees that everyone has the right to be treated fairly when buying household goods at the supermarket, paying the bill at the energy supplier or downloading music."
that seems fair. And badly written. What about when we visit a proctologist, will we be treated fairly there as well
My master's thesis is about consumer rights related to buying and downloading digital content Mainly the 2011/83/EU directive, but I also mentioned the (now abandoned ) CESL project and the new Digital Single Market.

I can see a lot of work for you the coming years.
Seems to me that the rights of digital content became a little more important on the EU level (compared to the years of neglect). Seen more talks about the whole ownership and to my surprise the GEO restrictions are getting put up on the table again.
didint some frenchies sue valve recently on that stuff , following another country that won and valve had to change steam stuff
Yup, atm A French consumer rights group is going after Valve on behalf of the notion: ownership of digital content and the right to resell those (sure it can be explained better, but I'm multi-tasking atm ).
The whole refund thing came because of actions like these.
