It was a useless scene IMO, like every scene with Bolton in it.

I hated the scene because it was just added for shock value. The creators added lots of sexual violence to this series that wasn't in the books (like the pedo scene in the last episode).
The show is already suffering from unsympathetic characters, raping the remaining ones isn't the way to go. (Starting to remind me of Oz)
I didn't mind the backlash they got for it, it was deserved. There's enough violence in the story, stick to it and keep your sexual fantasies out of it.

Meh, it's not like the last season was some pinnacle of brilliance that this news stand to potentially ruin anything for the next one.

Idiots. |
I agree with the sentence below I quoted, which basically means the scene was useless. The books are masochistic, but it all has a purpose. Adding scenes on TV to just shock people, is just a simple tool to cause controversy. The went overboard with the Ramsay Bolton bullshit and turned him into a caricature.

My two cents:
1. It was the natural result of a marriage to Ramsay. Their first night was always going to have some element of sadism due simply to the fact that he's a complete psycho. Including Reek was a minor contrivance at worst, in order to facilitate the plot of the following episodes. That said, I didn't feel that it was unnatural or out of character for Ramsay to do this.
2. It was the moment that Theon finally snapped and his loyalty to Ramsay began to fracture. Ramsay pushed him too far and if the wedding night had not happened that way, Reek would have remained Reek and Theon and Sansa would not have escaped in the finale.
3. Had this happened to Sansa in seasons 1-4, it would have completely destroyed her. However, season 5 Sansa has evolved to the point that she can endure something so terrible and not only survive it but come out of it with the will take control of her destiny and escape. Rather than destroying her character as the whiners claimed, it illustrated how far she had come from being a naive and awkward young girl to a woman with courage, wisdom and grace.

Yeah but then again why should people use their brain when they can just say it was unnecessary and gratuitous.
If people wanna talk about a botched up rape scene there are other ones that should be talked about, Daenerys getting raped by Drogo and Jamie raping Cersei. Those two things never happened and they REALLY didn't bring anything to the story, unlike the Sansa rape which has a logical reason behind it and a logical consequence.

Well, that's one less show to continue watching.
Why are children watching Game of Thrones in the first place? Someone needs to get in contact with their parents.

Also Sansa rape scene was mild in comparison to the two mentioned because you never saw Bolton raping her only her face.

Wouldn't mind the rape if it's a scene from the books, they stray from the books to much and it just seems unnecessary, like shock value. Stay true to the books.

Yeah, those scenes were even worse. But the backlash they got after Sansa was the culmination of all these only-for-shockvalue scenes.
Granted, in the books it isn't Sansa who marries Ramsay, but a lookalike, and she does get brutally raped on the wedding night. But it's more about the character Sansa, and her story arch, which is going in a completely different direction than the books it seems.
Which is fine by me at this point, they've changed so much already I frankly don't care anymore. But come on, we know already, the harsh times of the middle ages and women are the niggers of Westeros, blablabla. Try to be more creative than rape.

But the rape makes sense in Sansa's case, at least the show Sansa since book Sansa is different.
This is a show/book where everyone gets the opposite of what they want. Sansa wanted the perfect knight in shining armor the whole time. It only makes sense that she got the opposite and the rape makes perfect sense. It should, in theory, be the moment where Sansa finally is done with being the stupid naive girl (who btw, in the books I found her to be a chore to read) and will finally kiss goodbye to fairy tales and will finally start realizing the harsh world she lives in and that she needs to because a cold blooded person to survive.
It's the only logical course of action once she got married to the Bolton. Who btw, it's established since day 1 that he rapes everything ffs, so what the hell did people expect it was going to happen? Besides the fact that for the times it makes sense that the lord of the region will want to consume the marriage on the night of the wedding ffs.

And with that being said, I still can't believe they did that with the Jamie/Cersei scene. Just completely missed the point of it from the start.

Haha absolutely, the White Walkers are the most likable characters left in the show. Genuine beasts with moral integrity and lacking hypocrisy, something unknown to the puny slimy and manipulative humans. House Wun Weg Wun Dar Wun ain't bad either though!
