yeah ... sadly doubling dipping is pretty widespread now ... I have several movies I'm waiting for the right version of ...
Robert Rodriguez was honest from the get go and did say there would be a more definitive version of Sin City coming out with all three parts of the story being longer and can be watched on their own... Q Tarantino said the same thing about a later version of Kill Bill coming out too ...
New versions with the exact same transfer kind of piss me off too. The new Heat SE is an example of this.

Gladiator - Extended Special Edition, 3 disc edition how can that be a rip off?
It's up to you to do a research before you even buy the film. I own All the Terminator movies and they sure have different rls, like today a T1 Ultimate edition (pre time) got released, I only own the special edition..
Now it's up to me to compare the ultimate vs special edition if I think it's payable or not. If you want a rip off check out the new star trek/Rocky dvds, same content but with new covers....

I agree with Sedolf for sure.
They should release only one copy of a movie - whether it be with extended endings, extras, menus, porn on the side, whatever, just one edition.
I can understand say something like the Godfather coming out on dvd with a regular release and a special edition - but very few movies nowadays warrant a special, extended, golden, ulimate, hyper edition. All it is, is an attempt to milk the product for more money.

Yes in some cases they are doing it to milk new money out of an old product.
Sometimes it's another comapny like WB who screwed up with the transfer and a new company picks it up+remaster.
You can't just say 1 rls for evryone it wouldn't work, since there are people out there who want or doesn't want extras/ext cuts.
Syco I think you know what I mean, having extras/several versions will take up more space = more money, doing more stuff = more money which means the dvd will cost to much if you only want the movie...
Look how lovely LOTR turned out. You get to choose, either you buy the extended versions or you don't.
I have no problem searching/comparing new editions..
Btw @griffon nice try...you really impressed me this time... btw have you seen spiderman 2? I think theres like 12 ext cut on dvd/cd/vhs/beta

Yeah, but Im talking about the timing...fuck, make 10 copies of a movie - but release them all at the same time. That way, I can get the Special Platnium series or whatever right off the bat and not have to buy the DVD with Bonus DVD, DVD with extras and Bonus DVD and then the Speical Edition Platinum Extended Ending gold plated edition :loL:

Cuz Im one of those guys that like doesnt wait on a movie release, like i wait on game release. If im out at the store, usually HMV or something, if I see a movie i like and its priced decently, I'll pick it up...it pisses me off when I go buy something thats supposedly the special edition,and 2 months later they bring out the hyper mega edition ya know? bring em all out at once so I can take my pick as to if i wanna spend $20 for a regular edition or $60 for the super duper edition...take disney...it seems like every year they are releasing a Cinderlla Special Edition, Cinderella Special Edition 50th Aniversery etc etc trust me i know, I have a 10 year old niece who nags the shit outta me to buy em for her and yep, I end up watching each one atleast once

I think his problem is.... you buy a DVd then a few months later a 'special' edition cokmes out. and then a year later a 'super special' edition comes out. and then probably a 'special edition box set'. The features on them all will be different. I think that a DVD + special edition should be released at the same time and there's 'no going back' unless it's got some seriously big changes.

yeah look at shit like the blade 3 unrated. why is that unrated...no more gore...a tad more fighting. why is that unrated? why is there a new dvd release? because hollywood is making a huge pile of cash with it. when producing movies this is allreaddy considered and calculated in to the pile of money the movie might cash in. how do you think they can produce 100 Million dollar movies like nothing today? ok the movie might gross 200 mill in the cinemas. 100 mill the first dvd. 50 mill the special edition. 50 mill the ultimate edition. they even brought family guy back cause the dvds sold so well. you don't really belive they brought it back because of the fans, eh? no because people will watch and buy the dvds of the new seasons too.

Vin Diesel is a hardcore gamer, and absolutely loves the Hitman series. For that reason I have faith that he wont destroy the movie.

imho, longer isn't always better. I for instance like the theatrical cut of 'the two towers' better than the extended edition. *shrug*

most theatrical cuts are better than extended versions, there is a reason why all this got cut out. regarding lotr trilogy there are some interesting scenes in the extended editions,
but imo you can enjoy an extended edition better if you ve seen the theatrical cut before, because sometimes the pacing just doesnt work well or certain scenes just dont fit in.

For the most part i'll agree with you, but some movies, such as Apocalypse Now - Redux, which is a directors cut in a sense, is worth the money.

yeah, unrated horror movies are better -- and most seem to come out with an unrated version right away ... like dawn of the dead, land of the dead, devils rejects, etc.
