Cant wait to play arma 3 with the oculus dude (i get 30 fps at most on arma 3 with a 390, 3570k oc etc etc )
Yea, im a bit worried about the reality of running standard games @ at least 90fps with the oculus, considering that the GPU will be hit by 2 screens now.
but isn't it like with for example star citizen? everyone says how bad it runs and it will never run on any system but by the time it's released and playable, it will be optimized and most people will have enough gfx power by then.
if you buy the rift now. what can you really play with it? are there even full games out yet which are fully functional for VR? and if how many and how many will be released this year and im not talking about "Paradise Island - VR MMO" and other steam crap games.
so even if you get 1 or 2 games this year it will not be worth it. only if you are rich and don't give a fuck about the money.
just wait guys. it will be the future and we all can have it but not yet and it's not worth it anyway... yet.
Personally i have the order in place because im not getting charged until 3-4 months from now.
Gives me time to see whats up and if finally i realize its not worth it.. im out. Currently im treating the Oculus as a TrackIR replacement, if i can play my flight and race sims that im currently playing, perfect.
But realistically its pretty grim for the mid level user. Most games DO not keep up @ 90 fps, after getting my 390 ive seem several current year games failing to stay in the 80+ fps.
Im curious as to what will be revealed during January and February. That should help anyone decide.
And AmpegV4 basically sums up my only current worry.
@freiwald there's tons of content but depends what your looking for. Quake2 and hl2 in VR run at insane fps, personally can get weeks of VR love out of them. I'm sure there are tons of older classics you can get a ton of fun out of, skyrim, doom, all those crafting / survival games. Not personally tried but I've seen a guy use razor hydra throwing grenades over his shoulder etc in hl2, very cool.
How's the Skyrim support though? Can you really look in one direction and aim in another direction, or is it the normal robotic movement we have in games (look and aim is the same thing). If i remember correctly there was also other things for this mod that made it pretty crappy and not very VR-like.
Also just some thoughts on a game like Arma with VR and touch. Less dependency on the scripted animation, in Arma you can see your body, maybe minute actions are not possible, but couldn't a person now dictate their crouch, prone, lean, grab a walkie talky, grab a hand grenade aim down iron sights? I remember dk2 half-life being able to lean my head over the magnum and fire with accuracy, was incredible.
@vurt ya I didn't get around to testing it, from what I read it was kind of a hacky implementation. I would guess at release and as modders can play with the tech, it should be feasible to implement into the game.
Like I was saying above, you really need the free head movement and presence of body. QuakeVR's really impressive becuase you can change and test every combination of tracking with the rift, freelook, aim with rift, free weapon with free look etc.

Yeah Quake and HL2 was impressive and quite fun on DK2.
This really needs 5-10 titles that people just can't be without, something amazing, if that happens people (including me) will be willing to buy, even at this high price. I will admit that i've went to the purchase page a few times already (). I will stay strong though
What am I missing here, if $600 USD + $200 get boned in the ass by your country tax and duties is too expensive? How can you come close to affording a PC that runs this tech properly?
Having tested dk2 I would say recommended spec is SLI / interinactivity sized rig. I had to o/c my own system and gpu to the sky and still couldn't run every demo. I think they've really failed giving off the impression the tech works well with the average gaming rig, it just doesn't unless you stick with classic games you can 300fps with.
This device is for people willing to drop $1k in a gpu, $600 in a cpu..
Lot's of experience with 3DVision here. This is going to be the same performance hit on the GPU, rendering two screens at the same time (up to nearly 50% less fps). Loads of games will most likely run poorly and settings will need to be turned down, maybe even on some of the best setups.
Ryzen 5 5600, ASUS ROG STRIX B550-F GAMING WIFI II, Corsair Vengeance RGB RT 32GB 3600MHz C16, MSI RTX 5070 Ti Ventus 3X OC , Corsair RMx Series RM750x. AOC AGON AG324UX - 4K 144Hz 1ms
SLI makes sense for this tech but I fear nvidia will as usual implement some proprietary crap in order to fragment the market, cripple technology and fail the end user, physx, gsync etc.
Im no expert on it but couldn't this be an opportunity to make multi-gpu support part of the SDK and take any responsibility off the developer to implement it properly in their games?

VR Works, exclusively for Pascal cards and the Geforce Experience!
VR is an empty hype that will die.out soon enough. High cost so that the normal gamer wont even think about it. Iam not even mentioning all the other impraticalities.
That's like going back to 1996 and saying the 3D gaming is empty hype that will die out because 3dfx Voodoo cards are too expensive.
Vr googles are just a gimmick that failed before. People compare the googles with an expensive 4ktv or monitor with freesync etc but factbis that a monitor gets bpught once and is used all the time. It is not just a gimmick. 2 Years top and this trend will be long forgotten.
Love to read about all the whiners. "VR is dead omg!!". No! VR is not dead. Just because you cannot afford it does not mean its dead. Fucking morons.
I cannot afford a Ferrari -therefore it's dead....
And I love to read all about the apologists. Yours is just as bad a comment than those you criticise.
Its perfectly understandable that people are pissed off at the double price-tag and the bad communication. It doesnt mean they could not afford it either. Its not because I am unwilling to buy a product for a certain amount of money, that I could not "afford" it. Its just that it isnt worth that price to me.
I have both DKs and I know what CV can be and personally for 600€ it is just not worth it. It is still just a gimmick and I predict, from personal experience, you are not going to put hours and hours of gameplay into it after the WOW-Effect and novelity factor has worn off. The resolution is still much too low.
This Price-tag makes me think: Ok I have the DK2, I know what this 3D is like, I have seen Porn in the Rift. I'm not going to "test" their CV for double the price just to have a better version coming out 2 years later.
But congrats to everyone that buys it and I am sure they are going to have alot of fun.
"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

It will be if it doesn't go mainstream. And by that I mean that enough people have to buy it now so that in a couple of years down the line the prices will drop so that your average Joe can buy it cheaper.
This isn't like a necessary part of a computer (like for example a CPU or a HDD/SDD) but rather a peripheral that can add to the experience, think of 3D TV's and the glasses that come with it. So for you to get a VR headset you also need the prerequisite of computer hardware that can meet the minimum requirements of said headset for it to be used properly.
And the devs won't invest time and money to develop special features for Rift / VR in general for a couple thousands enthusiasts - it has to hit the mainstream to be viable for them.
Everything went better than expected , got one for "free", since company where i work paid for this. I work as show technician, and im going to make couple 360 nature videos using go pro 360 rig which we ordered also, gonna be be fun stuff, previously i have been making seamless panorama videos / pictures to our huge ass curved panorama wall with 4x NEC PH1000U video projectors + hardware that runs them. Ofcourse i do all the work on my home rig so i can use it for everything .
Does anyone know how many units the first batch is? Is it official?
A lot of people are saying its a success since the first batch is sold out, i dont think it means anything unless they state how many units the first batch is.
I'm waiting for the second batch I think, I can't be fucked upgrading both graphics card and spending my life savings on the rift for 2 games. Fuckers should have invested less in the hardware and put more into sponsoring titles for it.

You can still order it, so not sure what is supposed to run out. They needed to know how many to start producing and pre-orders gave them exactly that.
The first batch is sold out since the date is now pushed forward to may.
This is the price of early adopters if you ask me, if you want a better price wait it out, just like the consoles when they come out( huge prices no games) , just like iPhone.
Well ... that's the end of the OC then. At that price, they officially killed it in Europe. €650 (taxes included) is an insane price for that kind of device.
Please tell me, how casuals and derps would make VR worse? It's not like games.
he can't feel so superior anymore then. this makes it much worse for him then and probably wouldn't even buy it. fuck those low life derps in the ass! right?
