As a backer, I am 100% sure I will not play the beta nor any leaks until release. Just watched a video and playing anything other than the retail, will spoil the magic.
I will just replay Planescape and Arcanum in teh mean time.

Wasteland 2 had horrible optimization in beta and was mostly fixed at release so it'll probably be the same case with this.

Good! I don't even care about schedules at this point, they can take as much time as they want to properly polish it. The Torment must be perfect^^
One of these days if time allows me, I'd like to replay Planescape, it's been 10+ years and I'm sure that I'd enjoy it even more now, like all the timeless masterpieces.

Quote: | Hello Exiles,
Brian here!
When we last checked in, we were heading towards a content complete milestone, and we are pleased to say we have hit that mark. The game is playable from beginning to end, which marks a major step forward. This is one of the most content rich role playing games I have ever worked on.
.....
Those of you who have been following our updates know we have been hinting towards a late 2016 release, and we could crunch and rush to get the game out around November. But doing so would mean both sacrificing the quality of our localization and would lead to a less polished game for the nearly 100,000 people total who have backed the game. Therefore, in the interests of giving everyone the best experience, we will be releasing Torment in early Q1 2017.

This part is also of interest to Kickstarter backers:
Quote: | To thank you for sticking with us, we are making Torment's beta version available to everyone who's getting the game with their rewards, right now.
We have had the beta available to backers at certain pledge levels since January, and now we think the time is right to open it up to everyone else who backed us during the Kickstarter. I know some of you would prefer to wait for the final game, but if you want to have a taste and help us make the game better, you will be able to play the game's first act in Sagus Cliffs right away.
To get your Steam beta key, please login to the Torment web site with your backer account and visit the Rewards page. Look for the "Manage Keys" button on your reward package and follow the steps there, then redeem the key on Steam as usual.
Since we know you'll ask these questions: your Steam key for the beta counts as your final game key and we intend for it to carry over to final release later on. That said, we still plan to release the game DRM-free through GOG. If you want to join the beta on Steam, don't worry, as we will have an option to exchange your Steam copy for the GOG later on.
Major Beta Update
In line with the previous months of work and our intent to give you the best Torment experience possible, we felt it was also high time to take the lid off of our next major beta update to the game.
This update represents months of work and tens of thousands of changes (some of which are in the screenshots and video at the start of this update). There are simply too many for us to list each and every one, but here is a list of the most important changes:
Totally redone user interface art
Design improvements and changes to many UIs, including Inventory, Character Sheet, Journal, Effort and Conversation
Added Merchants to buy/sell items
Reworked early game introduction (updated dialog and new Crisis)
Added new companions and characters
Added new areas
New character portraits (more to come)
Reworked character creation and progression Improved environment art, visual effects and sound effects
New items and equipment, and tweaks and updates to existing ones
Updated placement of items, containers and loot drops
Performance and optimization improvements
Incalculable number of quest tweaks, conversation updates, typo corrections, bug fixes and more |

I'm assuming performance has been fixed...I never played the older versions that people complained about, but this one is running at 60 fps constantly. Maybe it's worse in later areas. I don't like the new interface, it's too plain and streamlined which makes it contrast with the weird nature of the environments.

I tried the leaked version and performance was EXTREMELY bad, UI was terrible - and overall the game felt more like a high-school project than a professionally made game.
Then again, I'm probably not the target audience - as I found the original Torment to be a needlessly verbose book saturated in below average gameplay.

Well, in that leaked version - the first area was a gigantic mess of a zillion pillars moving up and down. I don't know why anyone would expect that many animated objects to work well in Unity - but the whole thing smacks of amateur-hour stuff by impractical designers.

Being published by Techland
http://www.rpgcodex.net/forums/index.php?threads/torment-tides-of-numenera-to-be-published-by-techland-gets-teaser-trailer.109257/
Quote: | June 10th, 2016 – Wroclaw, Poland/... Techland Publishing is proud to announce its collaboration with inXile Entertainment to globally publish the retail version of Torment: Tides of Numenera. The science-fantasy RPG is scheduled for a PC release in the first quarter of 2017.
Developed by inXile Entertainment, the renowned studio led by industry icon Brian Fargo,Torment: Tides of Numenera is the first title announced by Techland as part of its move into the international games publishing. Furthermore, the boxed edition of the game will be enhanced with a number of physical and digital bonuses that will ease players into the unique world of Numenera and further increase their immersion in the story.
‘I’ve been impressed with Techland and am pleased to be collaborating with them’ – says Brian Fargo, inXile Entertainment CEO. ‘Bringing a game of such scope and depth to the international market is a major undertaking, and we wanted to be sure we partnered with professionals who knew how to cater to the global community. Techland has been a great partner and their track record has convinced us they are the people we want to have at our side.'
Torment: Tides of Numenera is the highly-anticipated thematic successor to one of the best RPGs of all time - Planescape: Torment. The game has already amassed a dedicated following as shown by it being one of the three most-funded Kickstarter games to date. Bringing back the golden era of RPGs, the game features a deep, thematically satisfying story set in a world unlike any other – Earth a billion years in the future. On top of a thought-provoking narrative and a novel take on turn-based combat, Torment: Tides of Numenera offers hundreds of meaningful, game-changing choices that ensure no playthrough is ever the same. |
