yes, I thought of that game too when I think back to this game. They both played kind of similar, so if you liked one you would most probably like the other too. I reinstalled Rise Of Legends not so long ago actually, and it still holds up really well to this day. Still very fun to play and I too would love to see a sequel.
On Friday, October 2, 2015, we were joined on a twitch.tv livestream by Alex and Bert from Forgotten Empires to celebrate the upcoming expansion Age of Mythology: Tale of the Dragon. In addition to an awesome sneak peek at the gameplay, the devs gave us the lowdown on the expansion, which we’ve highlighted for you below!
Release Date: Age of Mythology: Tale Of The Dragon will release in January 2016!
New Civilization:The Chinese!
Why the Chinese? China has an incredibly rich and extensive history, spanning thousands of years—more than any other empire on earth. Above that, they have a huge array of gods and goddesses to pick from, and their legends also feature a lot of mythical creatures, which are an essential part of Age of Mythology!
What new units will we see?
The Chu Ko Nu is the first unit you can’t go without when playing the Chinese. These pre-gunpowder archers have repeating crossbows that fire multiple bolts at once!
The Monk has returned as well! At long last, the joy of converting an elephant army comes to Age of Mythology.
As for other units, we’re going to shake up the counter system. The typical counter-triangle (or RPS) system is that infantry>cavalry, cavalry>archers, and archers>infantry. The Chinese change that up, with a cavalry type that counters infantry, ranged units that counter cavalry, and so forth.
What about the Myth units?
We took inspiration from Journey to the West, a famous Chinese tale that nowadays is still read by almost every Chinese student… If you know the tale, you can expect some of these characters to pop up, including a white tiger and a fighting monkey.
And of course, since it’s China, we can’t avoid adding some dragons into the game! The Norse Nidhogg will finally get some company.
Can you introduce us to the three major gods on the cover art?
These gods are known as the Three Sovereigns. They were a group of mythological rulers who were said to have ruled over China from roughly 3000–2000 BCE, and were credited with the creation of humanity. Chinese Mythology is incredibly complicated, and each god is the subject of many legends, many of which are contradictory; when studying the Three Sovereigns, we actually found nine different variations of who exactly was part of this group.
Shennong is also known as the Emperor of the Five Grains. He’s credited for many inventions related to agriculture, two of which are shown in the picture: the axe in his left hand and the hawthorn berry (“shan za,” a common herb in Chinese medicine) in his right.
Fu Xi is credited for creating humanity together with his sister Nu Wa, as well as inventing the first writing system (Cangjie). Thus, he’s holding a book & pencil. Both Fu Xi and Nu Wa were born shortly after the shaping of the world, and were part human and part snake.
Nu Wa is credited for creating humanity together with her brother Fu Xi, sculpting their bodies out of mud (thus the mud figurines in her hands).
What can we expect from the new campaign?
The new campaign will be an original story, fully voice acted in English!
Just like the original Age of Mythology campaign, we also borrow some elements from existing myths and legends, similar to how the Trojan war was part of Arkantos’ travels. The Chinese mythology has a lot of stories to tell and places to explore, so you can look forward to something fresh and exciting!
The first expansion pack in over 12 years for the 2002 PC real-time strategy game Age of Mythology is less than a week away. Microsoft plans to release Age of Mythology: Tale of the Dragon on Thursday, January 28 via Steam. The expansion was developed by the Forgotten Empires team, which also developed two expansions for Microsoft's Age of Empires II: HD.
Originally developed by the now defunct Ensemble Studios, Age of Mythology was re-released in 2014 as Age of Mythology: Extended Edition on Steam. It included the main game, its first expansion, The Titans, and the extra Golden Gift campaign. It also had a number of graphical improvements compared to the original version, along with extra features such as full Steamworks support, integration with Twitch and more.
The Forgotten Empires team has not yet revealed the full list of content and features in Age of Mythology: Tale of the Dragon but it would appear that it will add gods and other units from Chinese mythology to the main game. There's no word on the price for the expansion.
Man.
Finished 3.5 campaigns of the AoE2 HD addon African Kingdoms. But it got a bit boring then after playing it nearly nonstop for the last days.
Well, started playing the AoM EX base game now.
WTF, graphics look so bad. Everything is so streamlined (which i actually like ), but the gameplay is so slooow. Can't change gamespeed like in AoE2?
Also that zoomed in camera makes me angry.
Also so many possible keybinds, yet none for camera movement.
Updated gameplay Their entire conference was about Age of Empires for fucking consoles. Retold and "updated" is very likely to mean a controller friendly new design. The fucks couldnt even leave the RTS genre alone ? Unsoiled by fucking gamepads ?
I'm having fun with it overall especially since i paid 0$ (thank you early access and no Denuvo)
But overall not liking some of the changes to VA. Athena's is terrible. I've noticed a lot of whiffed lines (putting emphasis on the wrong words etc) and some of Arkantos delivery is not good. Obviously poorly directed dialogue.
I also hate the huge portraits that pop on the screen when they're talking, looks and feels very cheap.
But again, still a fun game. A bit harder than I remember, AI is a real bitch on Titan mode.
The only "woke" change i've noticed is they make ulfsark units have the ability to be female.
But they were previously trannies, since female gatherers in the OG could transform into male ulfsarks back in the day
Anyone get to the Egypt mission "Long Way From Home?" That shit had to have been bugged. Even on moderate difficulty the enemy throws crazy amounts of units at you. War elephants, scarabs, tons of priests so you can't even counter with myth units of your own.
Signature/Avatar nuking: none (can be changed in your profile)
