All jokes aside, I find surprisingly positive the fact that journos are praising a PC-only game from the heathendom, without blaming anyone for not thinking about the couches. Perhaps it's a good sign, despite 2K's claws the devs are doing an excellent job, putting the customers first for once.
It's an oddly satisfying sensation, let's hope there aren't any elaborate ruses
I'm already anticipating the moment in two-three years vista where every company/developer, media and game store praise the master race and demolish each and every console. We will pay tons of money for A games which will turn into AA because master race developers at E3, GamesCom etcetera and be distributed/advertised like AAA games because PC MASTER RACE UbiSoft EA 2K FUCK YEAH!

Seriously, it's so odd... it all seems too good to be true
PC only game,
No pre-order bonus,
No dumb down, streamline bullshit,
Proper mod support,
Real sequel with proper improvements,
Let a wide range of people to do proper previews,
Early reviews embargo dates.
One last thing they could do is to let youtubers/streamers stream the full game a few days before release, like Cities Skylines. That would be the most consumer friendly game since, well Cities Skylines.
Seriously, this game would be the shining example of what PC gaming can be at this day and age.
No always online because "people are always connected" DRM BS. Straight up, here's a PC game made only with PC in mind.
"We know PC gamers are smart and well informed, so there's no need for nonsense, let's make something genuine."
That's the vibe I'm getting from this. I really hope I'm right.

Looks like they're mostly doing that:

Playing what should be the final release version, and with very few restrictions on what I can show. This is going to be the good and proper Let's Play.

There is a pre-order bonus, but it's just cosmetics. Embargo is lifted. Playthroughs of the review (full version) copies are popping up.
Besides, they showed so much of the game over the course of the last several months, they weren't really hiding anything.
Beaglerush just released 2 videos on youtube of the campaign, cutscenes included. Nothing against Quill but... Beagle is just the Firaxis's XCOM god.

Meanwhile on neogaf:

Regardless of how much the first one sold, there will still be a console version of this game. That will obviously be using a gamepad. The game's UI looks like it could easily function with a gamepad. So it should have had gamepad support.
Modding is no excuse either. Bethesda's games are the most modded games on Steam, they all ship with X360 controller support.
I really hope it gets patched in sometime soon. I would rather play this on my TV-HTPC with a controller than on the gaming PC.

console exclusives add value to the platform. PC exclusives are bad for gamers.
How is it possible to gather so much stupid on one forum is one of the great misteries of the universe. The fact that neogaf thinks of itself as a place for hardcore, knowledgeable gamers, we'll have to wait for the next big bang to unravel. You can literally feel brain cells dying while reading that forum. If Sony would start a privately funded forum tommorow exclusively for Sony propaganda, it wold be impossible to do a better job than this god awful piece of shit forum.
Day 1 LW mods will be SMGs (just like the ones in LW), somekind of mini-boss Muton-Centurion mission or something and Squad Leader feature (you can make soldiers to squadleaders which will have group buffs but you're only allowed to take one SL on each mission).
Oh okay. Then i guess instead we might have some or all of the Second Wave options?
Would be great if you could disable the use of savegames while in a mission. As it's hard for me to put a handicap on myself in games (by not using a feature).

I'm sure I saw something about Second Wave options in one of the early preview build videos by Beaglerush or ChristopherOdd a few weeks ago. Possibly I am imagining things though.

Haha yeah, I know the feeling.. I avoid that place (or any other mainstream forum in general) like the plague, but when I happen to read the threads that get linked here, it's almost like reading the Onion, only with people actually being serious.
The worst part is that such skewed mindsets are very much vocal and are held in high regard by the people from the industry who live in there, like a dog chasing its tail. And this is without mentioning the celebratory Sarkeethreads and the likes which represent the other 50%.
It's probably going to come to consoles at some point so they should dry their weepy vaginas. Firaxis already talked about adding gamepad support post-launch.
Interesting, I just saw an early cutscene in a playthrough video that kind of rationalises the whole XCOM failed in the first game thing. Minor spoilers for the early game story follow.
Spoiler:
So the game begins with rescuing the Commander, i.e. you the player, from some sort of alien stasis pod thing and surgically removing the chip implanted in your brain. Then later when you complete an autopsy on an ADVENT Captain, Dr Tygan explains that they also have a chip in their brains that hooks them into some sort of global alien command and control network. But the interesting thing is that it appears that the Commander was also originally plugged into this network. The aliens were extracting tactical training data from the Commander's brain, and using this to enhance their own troops. The implication is that while we may have thought played EU/EW and won, we were actually just playing some simulation of fighting aliens while trapped in a stasis pod, and the aliens were actually using that against XCOM and everyone else. I thought that was a kind of cool way to segue from the first game into the second given that a lot of people would probably be like "bullshit, XCOM didn't lose, I blew up their mothership!". Yes, you did, but only in your mind.

yeah, saw that yesterday on the stream and that was extremely cool to explain the win of the aliens on Xcom:EU/Within!
I vote to temp ban idiots that always have to start a Denuvo discussion.
(Not that we had one in the very same topic a few days ago already)
