Not sure, but, I think, those recruits have their class specified already. Like grenader/sharpshooter, etc,.
The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant.

Wow I just looted an enemy who dropped "Advanced Repeater" - adding it to a gun gives you a 10% chance to kill an enemy regardless of how much health they have.

The workshop has an adjacency bonus, plus I think the generators get some sort of boost when built over the alien power coils, but I haven't gotten to those yet.

I don't see turn limits as difficulty... I see it as a tedious game mechanic limiting/directing the way I play.
The oldies were hard enough and didn't have to rely on it.

I see that nothing's changed with regards to the game fucking you over at absolutely every single step of the way....
Oh, you just cleared out half a dozen advent guarding that train? Suprise cockfag, we just dropped 6 more right on top of your heads (or spawned them behind you)!
Oh, you went out of your way to save that helpless civilian? I hope you didn't need that heroic soldier, cause he's dead now (and we've just broken every law of material physics that ever existed while we were at it).
And the almost obligatory - Oh, you're a highly decorated veteran sniper whose got a 95% chance to hit and save two of your squad from certain death? Swiiiiish....and miss.
Firaxis sure have some sadistic motherfuckers behind this title.
I will say this though - the musical score is incredible. The character faces though, not so much. I went through a dozen missions with a stock appearance character before I realized he was actually a she.
It also didn't help that the first sniper assigned to my squad had glasses thicker than fuckin' Bubbles from The Trailer Park Boys.
I can never be free, because the shackles I wear can't be touched or be seen.

Moving away from proper simulated combat and cover to dice rolls and super special skills soldiers almost makes the difficulty introduced mandatory or the game would be very dull. I frankly don't like it and got suckered into buying the first one. Never again!
