Haha, are you serious?
I mean, you cant be serious with what you just wrote?!?!

The final fantasy series died completley after part9. Part 10 and 10-2 sucked beyond compare. And their latest title, Romancing Saga, was quite shitty too.
Square-Enix died as the top rpg developer many years ago. Many rpg developer own them these days. I used to be their biggest fan, but I took my "fanboyism" aside and saw how shitty they had become.
I'm sure you will open your eyes some day too and see what I saw. Smile

You are right about FFx2. And I agree that the highquality-standard has been lowered dramaticly under the Ps2 era. But still, COMPARING with other rpg games released under the ps2 era, SquareEnix still owns the scene Smile

lol you kidding?
shadow hearts 1+2, xenosaga ep 1, dark cloud 1+2, suikoden 3 are definitely better than any square game this generation.

oh and yea, ffx-2 really gave square the last blow, after playing this abomination, my last hope in a company i used to be a really big fan of diminished.

but that doesnt mean this was a good rpg generation, sadly the ones i listed above are almost all rpgs worth playing on ps2.

There have been more quality-rpg's. Atelier iris for example, which was an awesome game.
YS: Ark of Napishtim, which is an action-rpg, but still. Smile
And Shining Force NEO, which is also an action-rpg, and really great.

But I guess you're right, there haven't been that many good TRUE rpg's.
I hated Suikoden3 btw, the lack of a worldmap and the INCREDIBLE slow battle-system totally demolished that game for me.

I like your attitude btw Seron. Many would go all crazy when their favorite company get flamed by others (me and Kuja) but you accept our opinions, and that's really great and quite rare around forums. Smile

I think you've gotten me a lil wrong tho. Im no Square fanboy. I only wish there would be more High Quality RPGs out there, like FF6-FF9. I dont really care if it's Sakaguchi behind it. Now that Sakaguchi has gone Mistwalkin I think we'll see a change tho, hopefully, we will Smile

Don't make such assumptions pallebrun, i'm in no way new to console RPG's. But in the same way as kuja and cyp, i've grown tired of random battles. I feel it's a contrived way to increase the difficulty.

LOL, so you think having invisible giants that randomly attack you in a town is more immersive then having visible enemies? Definition of fanboi. Laughing

well radiata stories pulled this off nicely(battles wise) there were no monsters in towns unless you piss of the people then you get the fights but that was diffrent thats what i want in rpg.. a world that NOT revolves around the player unlike in ff games where you seem to be the center of the universe.... hope tri-ace makes star ocean 4 that would kick ass!! as for rugue galaxy i got the game and i love it hope it comes out soon in eng since i dont get into the story much(can reach a bit jap) o btw i loved every ff game since they had nice story specialy FFX i bought it like around 3 years ago and played it like milion times by now i hated X-2 that was a poor game... X-2 didnt grew on me like X did

I teleported home one night
With Ron and Sid and Meg.
Ron stole Meggie's heart away
And i got Sidneys leg.

Your reason gave the impression that you were very new to the genre since you have such problems in a console-rpg. Anyone familiar with console-rpg knows how to play, and therefor they will be very prepared when needed, because they have learned that preparation is essential for any console-rpg. And if you're not prepared, well then you obviously missed the massive amounts of hints thrown at you, or you're new to the genre, or you tend to rush through games. But as I said, I can see why some might want visible enemies, but for other reasons.

And I prefear random enemies because with random enemies you can have way more enemies and much bigger ones, and dont argue on this one, because it's a fact, it would just lag down the game if they were visible on the maps, and look ridiculus in my opinion (from a visual point of view). The amount of enemies random encounters can offer is something visible enemies cant, and I prefear that, and if that's fanboyism (god knows how it can be) then ok, I'm a fanboi.
Just take the FF12 demo as an example, it had fully visible enemies, no hybrid. And the amount of enemies on a map was pathetic.

Another reason why I think many developers goes with random encounters is because with random encounters they force the player to fight and therefor you will never be at a too low level to advance in the game. With visible enemies, many would just run past lots of enemies and this would result in that they wont even stand a chance further into the game.

Cyp, radiata stories and star ocean did have visible enemies, but in every encounter with a visible enemy, you got more enemies that weren't visible before you encountered the visible enemy. And it was either because it would just look stupid with 5 enemies running around on the same spot, or the lag problem I spoke of.
But sure, if developers do a hybrid (visible AND hidden) like with radiata and star ocean, then I can live with visible enemies, I would still prefear completley random though, but a hybrid works.
