Anyone know how to reset the firmware on the macbook pro? All the websites post a bogus solution suggesting to reset the PRAM, which you can't do with the firmware pass active.

Can be done only on models with removable memory. Just remove one of the memory sticks.

With newer models you need to visit Apple Store.

EDIT: Full step-by-step instruction for older models --> http://osxdaily.com/2009/10/19/bypass-mac-firmware-password/

That's the exact steps that suggest resetting the PRAM. You cannot reset the PRAM with the firmware password active.

Strange... Sad

Always worked for me. Didn't even have to reset PRAM three times.

- Power off
- Remove memory module
- Power on
- Reset PRAM once

And it's done. I even lost count how many times I had to reset firmware passwords on "exhibition" Macs.

Anyway, have you tried this one

?

hmm did a lot of digging. seems the best bet is to take the 33-character hash the mac spits out on the firmware page and get an AASP to text a TSPS on the GSX. They can pretty much automatically spit out a signed binary custom to your computer's motherboard & atmel chip, that you install onto a formatted usb drive and boot. Now to find an authorised apple dealer that can spare me 2mins.
