Must be hell working on a dogpile like this. Today we must improve a game no one gives even the slightest fuck about.
I'm not sure what magic would be required to bring this to X3 standards, but I suspect it's not going to happen even if they patched it for a decade.

I think they said they are already working on a new X game. Don't know how many more patches this game would get though. But I do remember them saying there's things that can't be "fixed" with the game already complete.
Honestly, they could have just improve X3 and people would have been happy. It's not like they could make anything more ambitious with such a small team and a publisher like Deep Silver, I'm not exactly sure just what they were expecting from X Rebirth. There's no way a game like this would sell on consoles anyway.

Well here's hoping we get a rehash of X3 in the new engine.. that would at least be some sort of progress. Can't say I'm holding out for it though, not after they pushed this out hah

New DLC incoming.
Quote: | Today EGOSOFT announces the new expansion "Home of Light" as well as update 4.0 for X Rebirth, both to be released in February 2016!
Home of Light (HoL) is an exciting expansion of the X Rebirth universe and makes the best use of the many new features of X Rebirth 4.0:
• (HoL) Much larger universe: The Home of Light expansion will bring three entire new systems, including the central Home of Light, known from the X3 games, with a massive new economy.
• (HoL and 4.0) Bulletin Board System (BBS): The new BBS system collects all currently available missions in space for an easier overview.
• (4.0) Trade improvements: Graphs showing market developments over time, a best deal finder and many UI improvements to make trading easier.
• (4.0) New engine technology: Extend your ship with a Jump Drive and other new technology to travel through the universe quicker than ever.
• (HoL) Trade stations: A new station type allows you to stock large amounts of any wares you like. Buy up goods when they're cheap and sell when the price is high, or when your competitors' stations mysteriously explode.
• (4.0) Customizable weapon upgrades: Craft weapon modifications to improve your favourite weapons.
• (HoL and 4.0) New enemies, new weapons, new missions, new and mysterious phenomena.
• (HoL and 4.0) Many new secrets to explore in the outskirts of the ever-growing X universe.
The Home of Light expansion can be pre-ordered NOW at a 20% discount for just 7.99 € on Steam.
X Rebirth Update 4.0 will be released for free.
Coming in early 2016 will be the new X Rebirth complete package, including The Teladi Outpost and Home of Light for just 49.99€. Available on Steam, GOG, or directly from egosoft.com.

The expansion has been released.
Probably doesn't solve all of the games shortcomings though despite all the updates released since the game originally came out, wonder how the next X game will be?
(Try for multi-platform again now with the better hardware of the XBO and PS4 or try for PC only?)
Speaking of patches it seems version 4.00 has left beta, probably to coincide with the release of said expansion.

(Lots of changes and fixes as usual.)

Gotta admire the consistency and stubbornness despite the lost cause xD
It would have been smart to just let it go, but no, they'll try to fix the unfixable till the end of times

Thats what i thought.. but they seem to make enough money to warrant this and keep the team fed. Or they are chasing the white whale. |
Haha yeah, at this point I'm thinking the latter is more likely, as they just like to be moby dicks and see us suffer
(More realistically, I imagine this is just the result of a recoup program since bad financial decisions tend to hurt..a lot)

So people recommend the X3 series over this one but there are different ones, released by date. A few comments on Steam recommend either Albion Prelude or Terran Conflict. Which one is better to start with and does it matter for story? Pros/Cons of each?

How is the story/campaign?
I can't stand progress for the sake of progress, so I need something to keep me going beyond bigger numbers.
