In light of the upcoming Steam Marketplace changes next week, I’ve decided to discontinue working on and supporting Steam Idle Master. As someone who is unable to use the mobile authenticator, having trading cards put on hold for 15 days prior to being listed in the market makes the proposition of selling them a difficult one.

Meh.
But if Steam doesn't suddenly decide to change some of the code, that is needed for it, i don't care too much (for now).
I think even the very old version with the cmd-window still works just fine.

You can buy a virtual sim if you don't want to share your phone number. It is pretty much safe since Steam never will send any info about your login or anything, only confirmation codes which cannot identify you in any way.

Worst thing that can happen is virtual sim will be closed and you will need to restore account of add new mobile device.

SAM is so oldschool man.

-------------------------

Just got an email from Valve about the caching issue in december:
Quote:
Dear Steam User,

As you may know, for a brief period on December 25th, a configuration error resulted in some Steam users seeing incorrectly cached Steam Store pages generated for other Steam users. If you are not familiar with the issue, an overview of what happened is available at http://store.steampowered.com/news/19852/ .

If you accessed the Steam Store between 11:50 PST and 13:20 PST on December 25th, your account could have been affected by this issue. If you did not use the Steam Store during that time, your account was not affected.

Between the times above, a requested web page for information about your Steam account may have been incorrectly displayed to another Steam user in your local area. This page may have included your email address, country, purchase history and last 4 digits of your phone number if one was associated with your account. It may have also included the last two digits of a credit card number or a PayPal email address, if previously saved for future purchases. It did not include full credit card numbers, Steam account passwords, or other information that would allow another user to complete a transaction with your billing information.

We are contacting you because an IP address previously used by your account to access Steam made a web page request as described above. Because IP addresses are commonly shared for home networks, mobile devices and by internet providers, we are unable to verify that your account was actually the one that made this request. For example one affected IP address was previously used by over 1,700 Steam accounts. Consequently we are notifying all users who have previously used this IP address.

This event did not make it possible to compromise your Steam account or make a fraudulent transaction from your account, but we want you to be aware of what information could have been seen by another Steam user.

We're sorry this happened and have taken steps to prevent this problem from occurring in the future.

If you used the store between 11:50 PST and 13:20 PST on December 25th and you have questions please email cachingissue@steampowered.com.

- Valve

Haven't used any of them but I see WinAuth being talked about most. My guess a big reason for it: used for more services and you can make it more secure than Steam Desktop Auth.

I'm still fucking annoyed since for me it's about not wanting to add my phone number. Fucking hate it that the past years everyone asks you your number.

If I want to keep it alive I'd have to top it up every year. Sad
Would have been handy if I still had my Belgian number... but after 17 years of having that number and me living 3 years in Sweland now I thought it was time to retire it.

I'll just have to cave in and let corps dictate how I run my security I'm afraid. Usually how life goes... the idiots shape the world. Happens more than 10 years ago though. Mad

It's to be expected really. They are getting too big and have their hands in too many pots. It invariably leads to this type of stuff.

Over the last couple of weeks, I’ve started getting increasingly concerned that Valve isn’t actually the benevolent, gamer-focused company everyone thinks they are

kinda where i stopped reading.. they haven't been a gamer focused company for years.

but i would forgive valve a fair bit if they gave us another coal event

Just a line lower in the article:

Haha, just kidding! I’ve actually been thinking that for a long time. It’s just that recent events have provided a hefty amount of evidence which points in that direction, and this little article is my way of sort of verbally thinking through those events

Didn't steamdb.info used to show whether a game supported library sharing or not? Or was it some other site? Can't find anything about these things anymore...

You mean family sharing?

I only remember seeing it directly on the Steam store page, if a game did not support it.
Otherwise you can expect every game to work.
