victor frankenstein
actually quite enjoyed it. not stellar or anything, but still a well made, enjoyable watch. Only real problem i have with it, is the ending... not sure what happened, maybe they didnt know how to end it, or they felt (for some stupid reason) their film needed to be more 'actiony', or perhaps they just fell into hollywood convention and felt the only way you CAN finish a film like this, is with a fight/battle/action sequence... whatever the reasons, it was dumb.
also, way too much slow motion shit during the end of the circus segment.

disappointed myself, longtime tarantino fan,... plain boring, too long and like someone else already said, the most interesting part was the door being hammered 30 times

In regards of Transgender films I'd say that Breakfast on Pluto was very good. Cillian Murphy is also a great actor

standoff
it was ok.. good leads, child character who managed to not annoy me, i liked the idea of basically a single area set-up...
problem is the film relies too heavily on convenience and unrealistic 'quiet moments' and other such forced, unrealistic sequences... which becomes a problem when the film is set in a single location with essentially only 2 characters...

Spotlight 8.5/10
Extremely well done movie. Very hard subject and I was surprised by its amplitude. I knew about these things but only now I realize it's much worse than I thought. Regardless of the religion thing, the roman church is a seriously malfunctioning institution, and I think it's just the tip of the iceberg.

You have to be in the mood for such movies. I thought it was pretty damn great, and didn't even notice its length.
Check out Twelve Angry Men, for the best theatre-play-movie ever.

Deadpool 5.5/10
The comedy was pretty decent for what it was, and colossus was finally made right in a movie.
Still some of the jokes was lame even by deadpool standards of early or late comics.
And I was expecting something more original from it than the re-re-rehash that all movies seem to take of:
An unlikely, underdog, outcast character named _____, is trying to thwart the plans of evil named ____. After a long epic struggle character ____ realizes hes not just some average joe, but a ______ ! The evil known as ____ almost wins, but ______ comes back and saves the day! making _____ realize she loves him at the very end!
Really? deadpool was hyped as some unique, out of the box, true to the comics and a deviation from movie norms lately..And to fall back on that plotline that been used since the 80's in pretty much EVERY action movie. Its a tried and true movie theme, but was expecting more out of deadpool than to use that movie back setting.
It ruins movies when the first chick you see the underdog flirt with and go "yep that's going to be the chick that that gets trapped/kidnapped/in harms way for him to act on, and realized she loved him all along at the final scene"

Yeah, it was probably the most basic plot possible.
"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

Im really narrow on my choices of shows/movies I like.
We have 300+ tv channels. If nothing good is on science channel, cartoon network (mostly adult swim), or comedy central I dont watch TV
I've never been a big movie person. I mostly just watch things I already knew before the movie (enders game, HHGTTG, transformers, marvel, etc). So pretty much disappointed every time. I dont expect a 1:1 remake of how I remember them. But at least not an abomination of it..LOL

point break (the new one)
aww jeez.
i guess ill start with the two most obvious cringe points in the film.. the iconic scream+firing into the sky bit... so dreadful, so forced, and completely lacks the relevence and the emotion of the original... and the moment they tried to work the meaning of the title into conversation during the film. why they felt the need to do that, i dont know... maybe some suit kept saying 'but whys it called point break.. i dont get it...'... either way, it was horrible.
other than that, the film was really empty. soulless, pointless, kinda dull, extremely forgettable... main characters come and go and no one cares...
there are two things i liked about the film however...
1: despite the fact its a failure in every way, at least i can say this goes down the path that i applaud and think any remake SHOULD. virtually NOTHING from the original is in this, and thats how it SHOULD BE. If you want to do a remake, you should take the concept and make an entire new film, and thats what they did. Sure it failed... hoooo boy did it fail spectacularily, but i appreciate that they didnt just try and do a direct ripoff. More remakes should take this approach. The film wasn't about bank robbers, there was no iconic skydiving scene and it was barely about surfing.
2: its made me want to hunt down the original and rewatch it. Its been far too long.

Hmm, creating something with another name was too hard again.
At least it makes people watch the other one (again) I guess.
