i have to say this ep did pick it up from the woeful previous few episodes.. just wish it was a little less predictable. i guess we'll also find out that jay isnt the real jay? or isnt who he says he is? leo seemed to get pretty upset at barry saying jay was in their world universe reality thing...
Nah. Next episode is King Shark with Diggle and wife crossing over. Looks like a fairly standalone episode with no Zoom appearance.
Some other future episode will unmask Zoom as seen in the "Zoom's coming" trailer with scenes from several episodes.
This was a much much much better episode than the previous one.
Regarding Jay, the reveal of Hunter Zolomon being his Earth-1 counterpart was a bit shady and when he revealed he lied and Zoom never stole his speed that was quite a bit suspicious. Just a couple of episodes ago I said:

New theory: Zoom is Jay. I mean the dude does nothing at all on the show. Surely something interesting will happen with him eventually?
Even if he isn't Zoom (right now it doesn't look like he is, but you never know given speedsters can be in two places at the same time etc) something is up with him.
Questions:
a) Why was that earthquake producing metahuman sent to Iron Heights instead of one of the cells in Star labs?
b) Is there really never going to be any fallout after the fact Wells killed that dude that slowed down time in his cell??? Really??? Everyone is cool with it??? It's one thing to betray Barry and indirectly let Zoom kill him but taking some other dude's life??? People should be very upset.

The man in the mask is the real speedster from earth 2.
jay garrick is from earth three or four and he helps zoom travel between earths to catch speedsters. He once was a speedster. Lost it. Joined zoom to help him to live. He wants speed back. He got speed. He's not dead.
lets not forget, barry killed a guy too, and no one gave a shit...
Sure but that can be semi-excused because it was in the heat of the battle.

newp dont buy it, he's portrayed as being a super good guy, and no matter how many fights hes been in, hes always strived to NOT kill people, objected against any form of lethality or cruelty, so to flat out be fine with murdering ONE meta during a battle, have no crisis of conscience, wasn't being heavily beaten at the time, and to never bring it up afterwards and question his decision, is pretty worthy of note i think.
but to be honest, i think that just attests to the frankly terribly writing of the show.. characters and their behaviour, motivations, characteristics are completely all over the place... such a pity... cool characters, really really bad writing.
Some people have probably cracked the whole who is the real Jay business by looking for a character who was a nemesis of Jay Garrick in the comics. I'd say this was clearly the inspiration behind the storyline, similarly to how people figured what was the inspiration behind Felicity's recent situation.
In the comics, Dr. Edward Clariss was a professor of the university the Golden Age's Flash aka Jay Garrick attended. He manufactured Velocity-9, a solution which he believed replicated the powers of the Flash. When the scientific community rejected his claim, he injected the solution to himself and donned the nickname The Rival or "The Rival Flash", becoming to Garrick, what "The Reverse Flash" is to Allen. For that reason he is also known as "The Reverse Golden Age Flash".
Clariss and Garrick fought but the Velocity-9's duration was limited and Clariss lost and vanished.
That was his original arc.
In later comics written some 60 years later as I understand, it is revealed that the reason he disappeared was that during one fight with The Flash he was absorded into the Speed Force where he spent all this time and became insane, until Johnny Sorrow plucked him out of it and invited him to join his band of villains. By then The Rival Flash had become "pure speed energy", whatever the hell this means.
Anyway, it's this guy:
The Flash vs The Rival Flash:
So let's see what we have here:
- Guy looks almost identical to Jay when in suit (also in the show)
- Guy is a scientist (also in the show)
- Guy does not possess the Speed Force himself (in the show the character has already lied once about how he lost the Speed Force - who says he ever had it??)
- Guy uses Velocity-9 to become fast (also in the show)
- Guy has to deal with the fact Velocity-9 doesn't last long (also in the show)
Conclusion:
- Earth-2 Jay Garrick, the Flash of his Earth is now a prisoner of Zoom wearing that iron mask. WE DO NOT KNOW WHAT HE REALLY LOOKS LIKE. We should expect him to look different from the impostor. We should not expect him to be a scientist but instead have a military background as he knows how to communicate with that tap code.
- Earth-1 Jay Garrick is ??? We do not know.
- Earth-2 rival of Jay Garrick is "Edward Clariss" who has traveled to Earth-1 impersonating Jay Garrick to convince Dr. Snow to perfect his Velocity formula.
- Earth-1 Edward Clariss is Hunter Zolomon.
To conclude; no one knows what Jay Garrick looks like as Edward Clariss has been impersonating him for a long time. And his arrival on Earth-1 was probably in co-operation with Zoom.
And that's about it. I believe the above is more or less a lock. Now let's theorize a little more crazy.
Who is Zoom? That might be a stretch but the producers have said "who or what is behind the mask". The "what" implies that Zoom might not be a person but perhaps a personification of the Speed Force itself or something.
Well, if in the comics Edward Clariss became "pure speed energy", couldn't Zoom be a future version of Clariss who has become super addicted to Velocity-9 and the Speed Force and he is now the energy itself?

If Zoom is "Jay" (actually Clariss) from the future then the theory I posted above is not yet disproven.
Here is the relevant part from the above theory:

After the whole thing with the masked guy in last episode. I think Zoom's real name is Hunter Zolomon - that's why that was his counterpart on Earth 1. Problem is we now have 3 Jays, so something's still fishy. Either he's from yet another earth (gosh...), or the "Jay" we knew was actually working with him and it was Zoom we saw on that park bench. That would explain the way the masked guy (probably real earth 2 flash) acted when Barry was in the prison - he was trying to tell them he's the real Jay Garrick and the guy they know is someone else.
The Jay we knew is probably Hunter Zolomon too and both him and Zoom probably share Clariss's origin story - with some alterations, including the fact that Earth 2 Zolomon already fought his Flash and became what he is now because of it, while his Earth 1 counterpart only did experiments with Velocity so far and wasn't a real villain.
Or something like that
Then again, all of it doesn't line up with Wells recognizing Garrick as the Earth 2 Flash... I mean, it's not like his face is exactly hidden
I agree, the shark looked pretty cool. One thing I disliked as far as CGI goes was that lightning bolt Barry threw at the end. Gosh, that looked... wrong Still, it was a pretty fun episode, all in all. But the reveal... damn, way to fuck that up
Spoiler:
Seriously? So much mystery and then they just show his face in a short, pre-credits scene? With no drama and impact whatsoever?

The theory with
Spoiler:
Clariss says that when Jay Garrick became The Flash he had his face concealed. Then one day Clariss took his identity. How? Well, in the comics Clariss was a science-related professor at Jay's university, so maybe in the show they will show us Jay going to him and revealing who he is to get help - but Clariss instead of helping him manages to trick him and somehow subdue him.
So Clariss locks up Jay, takes his suit, but does not wear the mask and the public learns his face as the face of The Flash, mistakenly assuming it's the same man as the man who wore the mask. And using Velocity-6 he is able to fool the public he is indeed The Flash.
Therefore Wells recognized this face as the face of The Flash because he never saw his face before Clariss stopped wearing the mask.

The impact is that the next episode is in a month from now therefore people were given lots to talk about.

March 22: Flash returns with ep16
March 28: Flash crossovers to Supergirl
March 29: Flash ep17
So the next episode of Flash on March 22 should end with the team thinking they are sending him to Earth-2 only to end up on Earth-S. And ep17 will be him saying "you won't believe where I ended up!"

I have been rewatching Arrow first season and I quite like it, reminds me how much shit these past few seasons have been... Same goes for The Flash aswell I guess, especially these last few episodes have been quite MEH at best...
And that forced reveal at the end of last ep, felt so out of place...
This show gets more and more ridiculous. Time to end it and focus on something with potential.
Ratings are almost as good as last season's so at least 2++ seasons (unless something happens and audiences absolutely hate the show) are guaranteed.

Good episode, but very stupid. The date thing was the worst

This should have been a fantastic episode. Unfortunately it's merely good because Barry cannot NOT do stupid things.
Also see you in 3 weeks because there's another break. Next episode they confront Zoom and learn his origin story?

indeed was so annoying that there were some really cool bits in this, but its so fucking aggrivating how the character never learns, and continues to do the most clearly stupid things even when hes warned against them. every time he goes back in time or into an alternate world, he continues to make the same idiotic mistakes... just super lazy script writing, really...
Well, it's that or like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. does with a continuous 3 month break instead of many smaller ones.
