All those points are positives (especially the no fast-travel!) except for the combat.

I'm not a big fan of memorizing 15 button combos (hate fighting games due to that shit) and doubt I have the "skill level Asian" dexterity to pull that shit off.

I'd say my favorite take on combat would have be the way it was done in Age of Conan with their combo system - not as bland as simple button presses, but not as complicated as what everyone's describing here. DC: Universe Online also had some fun combos, until it went F2P and the macroers ruined it.

Oh man, that sounded very positive. I'm so on the fence of trying this, just afraid it might end up too big of a timesink.

Hmm. Looks interesting, shame I'm too old to have a second life in a mmo game.

I've tried hard to give this game a second chance, but it remains utterly terrible.

Well, maybe it's just one of those games I don't get.

I felt the same about Guild Wars 2 - by the way.

Everyone seemed to love it - and I never understood it. I tried and tried - but I truly despised the core design. Combat was fun and it had neat features, just like BDO, but the overall experience is.....

Well...

Not for me Smile

BDO is 90% of what I hate about the genre and 10% of what I love about it.

Many things sound great and all... but like I said earlier... I won't let myself being blinded by all it's flashiness.
Regarding the combat... that dude in the video claiming that this is different from all the other action combat systems... please, just because it doesn't show you on screen which buttons to press and gives you some more freedom in combining actions doesn't make it any different in principle.

I just couldn't immerse myself in this weeb waifu sim anyway. Just seeing the other players in that video already annoyed me.

Also, being instanced is a huge no go for me too. I hate that shit.

Warlocks points are all very good. But these action mmo thingys just need to die, they can live in Korea or wherever they came from...
I much prefer WoW/Aion style action bars where you have countless skills and keybinds. Just can't stand these "press 123 in a row to combowombo the enemy".

Just watched the video and it looks really good and interesting indeed!

I also agree that this retarded tab-targeting with skills in MMOs has to die.

But the texture and object pop-ins are really bad man. Shocked

The texture pop-ins are sometimes a bit crap.. thats true.. but on the other hand if we compare it to Ark or Wildstar for example then this game runs miles better and looks way better on top. And i take that anyday over crappy performance.

I see a lot of overselling this game. Point is: this is really not for everyone.
It doesn't even matter if you like themeparks or sandbox MMO's. There are people from both groups disliking it quite a bit (yes yes, or liking it. Before some get their feelings hurt ).

If you don't like MMO's don't get pulled in, it's still as all the MMO's that came before it. So you won't magically like the genre.

So... I can't stress this enough: Make sure to try it before you buy it.

@Bob
Why should tab targetting die? I rather have more choice tbh. That being said: It's not like this one has brilliant action combat. About the same you get from most Hack and Slash games. It's not necessarily the controls that make a game. It's how you implement it in your game and how it all comes together.

That's correct. But i prefer a freestyle combat system in MMORPGs nowadays instead of that classic targetting one.

Ever since i played Age of Combat with it's action combat, i really can't stand that rather static combat behind tab-targetting anymore. And that is my main gripe with it.
I don't like to just stand there most of the time, pressing some hotkeys for skills and maybe walk out of danger zones in combat once in a while. And repeat the same skill-routine over and over. I prefer to be more active in combat and give me a better feel of immersion.

In the classic combat systems i also dislike, that only specific skills would do AoE damage. But i want that my fireballs or sword slashes also hit nearby enemies.

// Something important that just came in mind: In those freestyle combat games, the stats on your items often only play a secondary role. Much more important is your own skill to evade attacks and hit with your own.

I have no inherent problem with tab targeting or with pure "action combat".

But I'm a huge fan of the strategy of developing a strong character, and I prefer a lot of relevant abilities over an asian beat-em-up - if I had to pick one.

Black Desert combat seemed very fluid and entertaining - but one look at the skill tree and I could detect a severe lack of variety within the class.

Coupled with both race AND gender locking - that's death in terms of character building for me.

To each his own, though.

Its not quite like that, its more like streetfighter if it was made for a keyboard sort of.

Like my opener combat usually is like:
"Shift S, rightlclick, Dx2, AD, Q, Wx2, F"
to do: lightning bolt, its follow up link, dodge to the right with earthquake, fireball, mana shield, earth dodge towards them, quick mana/health cast, and then whatever I need to do to stay out of the way and kill them with other moves as it changes based on how the combats going.

I totally agree its not an MMO for everyone. Things I love in it some will HATE. What parts I consider a fun challenging time others will see as a work of frustration and time investment.

Well, played this for ~2h now.

It's a somewhat interesting take on the MMORPGs with some new features, which got mentioned before by others.

Maybe i'm currently not in the mood for this game, but despite those features i didn't get a "wow"-feeling that wanted me to keep playing.

Might try this again in some days before the guest pass ends. But i probably won't buy it in the near future.
