Seems they really give a shit about the gameplay itself. Else they wouldn't "fight" over crap like who was first with something. What a shame. Sad

Caffeine is a badly-performing pile of trash, in DX12 mode or otherwise, so if that's what we can expect from UE4 and DX12, they can fucking keep it. I've never seen such disgusting performance in a game - ARK ran better

It's a game? I thought it was a specific dx12 benchmark Troll Face

Averaging at 32ish frames per second on the "high" preset, not even maximum. Average framerate is identical across DX11 or DX12, highest and lowest framerates are *substantially* improved in DX12. DX11 is utterly unplayable due to the series lows compared to the stable averages in DX12, but even DX12 is borderline unplayable for me.

For me.

Once again; for me. Not you. Me.

That ^^ for the "30fps is fine" people amongst us.

Maybe they need to add motion blur with those DX12 async shaders. Then it'll become playable Laughing

Those screenshots are Identicle right? Does one not have to restart the game to take proper full advantage of a dx api change in games, I remember you had to with dx 9/10/11

50% cutscenes, 50% the same empty landscape from the benchmarks

The gameplay in the second video looks somewhat okay. Not gonna bother with this game though probably, as i have no nerve to play a game with shitty performance for how it looks.

This is the future! *sees the videos* ..supposedly Laughing Razz
Rather underwhelming indeed. Not exactly the most convincing way to showcase new tech goodies, and also the reason why I haven't jumped into the Win10train yet, I'm waiting for something really awesome that justifies the move. I'm also very stubborn

If anything, this is making me want to reinstall Supreme Commander with the Supreme BattleFeel/Firey explosion/Sorian AI mods Mobster with a Fag (only with one AI though, otherwise the performance would probably be as bad as this one).

Multiplayer between Steam and GOG versions not possible
Quote:
1. Steam and GOG multiplayer will not work together at launch. However, it is something we are looking at and researching for the future.

Ashes of the Singularity will go into full launch on March 31.

Ashes will offer single-player action, ranked and custom multiplayer, and an Ascendancy Wars mode that “will walk the player through the story and how to play the game.” More importantly, it will portray large-scale combat without abstraction, using self-organizing formations called “meta-units” that handle the detail work autonomously. The Ashes FAQ describes meta-units as similar in some ways to traditional RTS groups, “except that each part of a meta-unit is aware of every other unit in its group and they work together in predetermined ways.”

"We are not looking to reinvent the RTS," Wardell said. "Our goal is to introduce a new generation of gamers to the general awesomeness of real time strategy gaming. That means showing how well non-cheating computer players can perform in single player as well as making it easy to get multiplayer games going."

What cool stuff is going to be in the release version?
    The Ascendancy Wars campaign is the main one. It's a story driven, campaign with missions that are quite unlike the normal skirmish game.
    In addition, there will be a set of scenarios that highly customized single player games for people to play. For example, one is called King of the Hill where you fortify a hill as best you can as wave after wave of ever increasingly powerful enemies attack. The goal is to see how long you last. It's pretty fun. Smile

What happens after release?
    As some of you know, Stardock is the oldest independent game studio in the industry (20+ years and counting). This fact means that this game wasn't funded by a publisher or by a Kickstarter campaign.

    Thus, for us, 1.0 is simply the beginning of Ashes of the Singularity. We already have post-release features and content that we'll be working on after the game goes 1.0. Most of these things we will be releasing for free.

    A few things at the top of our list of free features includes:
      * Customization of single-player scenarios
      * Multiplayer-scenarios
      * Modding (make your own AI personalities)
      * Replays
      * Observer mode
      * Scenario creation (make your own scenarios) - we're working on a tutorial

    On the near-term DLC front we'll also be looking at things like:
      * Player requested units
      * New map environments and features
      * Scenario Packs
      * New construction projects

    And on the longer-term road-map we have:
      * The third race
      * Naval combat
      * Environments that require other classes of units (crawling, treads, bipedal)

I bought this, though I'm not sure why. For multiplayer I suppose.

That said, I tend to despise the generic bland designs of Stardock - so I'm just stupid.

This looks dull overall.

I really wonder whats going so damn wrong at AMD.

Give a game for free with only a low-med range GPU?

Same as before where some game was only for Fury cards.

Not everyone can afford Fury or 980 Ti GPU's, far as I know the mid-range GPU segments earn the most revenue which is why Nvidia recommends the 970 for almost all their titles and it features in most of their promotions, AMD's doing that with the 380 here or so I assume at least.
(High-end GPU's are pretty minor overall by a smaller enthusiast group.)

EDIT: Bit of the same with CPU's as well although Intel is leading pretty heavily but why buy a 5960x when a 5930k costs like 2/3rds if even that and overclocks easily to make up for the (minor) performance difference, or well it's actually the models below that that's popular but still.
(Since those costs even less and overclock like crazy with half-decent cooling and power available. Very Happy )

EDIT: I might have misunderstood actually, yeah limiting promotions to only one single GPU model might gimp things a bit compared to having a range like say the R7 series in general. Smile

Yeah I played this when the 2nd faction was released. Wow, what a boring RTS.

It looks nice and some of the units are awesome, but there seems to be zero strategy or tactics. I can't bleed any enjoyment out of this rock. I have played a lot of RTS games in my time and this must be somewhere near the bottom of them - I struggle to think of another RTS so devoid of enjoyment. I would go into further detail but I don't think there's any point.

Hopefully modders can turn it into something like Supcom, or spice up the game.

Tried tutorial. In 1h my PC suddenly restarted and crashed two times. Embarassed
Have to look for the source of that now.

But from what little i played, its seems very okay so far. Pretty much like SupCom (2).
Performance is bad though. Even with only ~120 units and barely any objects on the screen, i only get ~45 fps. Most settings are mid-high, MSAA is 2x (probably that is the reason for slow fps).
