Shane Black hints at the movie having a huge budget and production values.
When they approached him he turned them down as he didn't want to make an AvP B-quality type of movie but they told him they want to invest into it and turn it into an "event" picture with as much clout as (the, then unrealeased) Prometheus.
I said, “Really, you’ll spend a bunch of money?” They go, “Yep.” I go, “Make it really scale, spectacle?” “Yep.” “Shit, that sounds interesting.”
[...]
I think that they came to me knowing pretty much that… they said, basically, if I wanted to make Predator but treat it like it was Iron Man III instead of just another little movie. I said, “Let’s really do it right this time.”
Say what you will about Prometheus, but every dollar of its over $100M budget made it to the screen.
(In comparison, Predators was $40M, lower than even AvP...)

Yea, I agree about Prometheus - the production values were noticeable on screen. I'm not so sure I agree with their idea of making Predator in the vein of Irom Man III, on the other hand
LMAO it took me 2 minutes of watching the clip over and over to spot it!

Rapper 50 Cent has revealed that he's apparently joined the cast of Shane Black's upcoming "The Predator" at 20th Century Fox.
Speaking with Sirius XM's Shade 45 (via BD) this week, the musician and actor was asked about what's next for him to which he said: "I'll be doing some new feature films and stuff like that too. I'll do Predator."
Shortly after he told another radio station: "I'm working on some new projects. You heard of the movie Predator? I might be a part of that project this summer." 50 Cent didn't go into any details of his character or the story.
If you stop and think about the original one, that one also had quite a lot of no name derpas. He's probably gonna play some cannon fodder to, so no big deal
...hopefully

In a separate interview with Screen Rant, Black says there's no plans to soften the movie or give it a PG-13 rating:
Quote:
"I made it a condition of directing The Predator that it has to be the same rating as the first one, which was R. We probably could have gotten more money to do it as PG-13. But I actually think that although that seems like good logic, you're shooting yourself in the foot. I don't think the fans want a PG-13 Predator."
One sort-of-sequel, sort-of-reboot in development is the Shane Black-directed new entry in the "Predator" sci-fi franchise.
Speaking on an episode of Meet The Movie Press this week, Jeff Sneider revealed a major casting rumor regarding the film - that James Franco is rumored to be in line for the lead role in the film.
The new movie is currently slated to open February 2018 which means production will likely kick off towards in a few months. So far no other actors have yet been linked beyond rumblings of Arnold Schwarzenegger potentially reprising his role from the 1987 original.
Black and his old "Monster Squad" cohort Fred Dekker are penning the script for the feature which is anticipated to have a larger budget than previous films in the series.
man i hope he will smoke some good ganja with dat predator and also that seth rogen will have a cameo appearance. (maybe as a predator???)
but for real: even tho i like him it may not be the best choice to cast him but he showed in the past that he can also make some serious movies too. we have to wait and see what will happen with this.

Benicio del Toro is in early talks to negotiations star in Fox’s “The Predator,” being developed as a reboot of the “Predator” alien action franchise that launched in 1987.
Shane Black is directing from a script by Fred Dekker. John Davis, Joel Silver and Lawrence Gordon are producing with hopes to begin shooting next year.
but one that was set on another world. Theres no reason we couldnt have a huge war film on some other colony world, humans vs aliens, with preds in the mix... not another shitty avp set on earth, not another dumb predator rehash, give me an all out alien war on a far off colony world, marines and civilians in a violent battle trying to survive, while predators hunt both sides.
why isnt this a thing... starship troopers, without the light heartedness, basically.

Yes? What's the problem? Aliens is a great franchise. Predator is an ok franchise, there's real potential for a fantastic DECENT avp sci fi large scale war film to be fantastic. Just because we've had two earth based shit avp films doesn't mean the potential isn't there or something fantastic.
I find an avp war movie to be way more exciting conceptually than a predator reboot.
predator is a franchise with potential
it doesn't need a reboot because there's no continuity to reboot
no overarching story
they're all individual pieces within the same world
they could well do wildly different kinds of films within the predator/avp universe
you could do some wild dives into the predator mythology, which hasn't really been done anywhere outside comics
not that they would have the balls for it
Benicio del Toro has fallen out of negotiations to star in Shane Black’s “The Predator” sequel/reboot which he is directing for 20th Century Fox.
The studio isn’t sitting idly though with “Narcos” and “Logan” actor Boyd Holbrook being eyed to take over the lead role. As Holbrook doesn’t have as much star power as the “Traffic” and “Usual Suspects” veteran, the studio is reportedly planning on beefing up the supporting cast.
Del Toro’s schedule had always proven a difficulty with his commitment to the “Sicario” sequel amongst other projects causing an issue. Production was slated to begin last month in Vancouver but was pushed back to February in order to accommodate the actor.
With him now definitely out, no word if the production date will be moved up. As reported a few hours ago, the film is currently going by the working title of “Ollie”.
