Boogie dropping the truth bombs as always. I'm not a *massive* fan of his persona, but his actual reviewer personality? He's incredible. And yeah.. I can imagine it was hard praising Anthony Burch for ANY reason, but I guess that just shows how bad Beamdog/Amber Scott fucked up if Anthony fucking Burch gets praise for "handling inclusive characters correctly"

wow this writing is bad ... kinda even actually offensive to the gay/trans people
Well, it's like I said on my Steam review. I don't care about having gay/trans characters, but I expect them to be well written and not preachy caricatures.
Arcade Gannon and Veronica in new vegas are two very good examples of non-preachy, non political gay characters. Their sexuality doesn't define their whole character, it is just an aspect.
Eurogamer really has idiotic commenters ... Apparently people complaining want no trans characters in their games. That's just bullshit. Most just hate how the character is so badly written in a way that it comes across as "YOOHOOO! Look here! I'm a trans character and aren't Beamdog so progressive to be in their game???"
When it comes to trans/gay/etc. characters you won't find many more liberal minded people than me (my uncle is a trans, I got a few online trans friends, a dozen gay friends and I grew up as a Queen/Freddie Mercury fan which meant defending him being gay almost daily at school) but when some people have an agenda they force upon you at the expense of good writing, that's where I draw the line.
I remember Dragon Age Origins having Zevran as a gay character and he was LOVED by my gay (and female ) friends. There was virtually no negativity about him because he was quite well written and the fact you could romance him as a guy wasn't made too obvious. That's the way to do it - people aren't going to yell about their gender or sexuality in your face, now are they?
The actual eurogamer article is surprisingly neutral. But yeah, retarded comments.
Yeah I was highly surprised at how well it was written. It only named the transgender element as last thing (as it should be) and the commenters actually complained about how neutral the article was. Seems RPS and Eurogamer share the same public (which is not surprising since many of the writers have worked for both sites).
Purchese usually manages to stay on the edge. Phillips, on the other hand...And Eurogamer tried more than once to get rid of Robert Purchese, though they did not succeeded, so far.

What was wrong with it?
How he was excusing himself and explaining that he's not only hanging with cis males etcetcetc. I can't stand listening to stuff like that.
One thing I have to agree on: Krem was actually a pretty well written character (with an interesting backstory), while Mizandhreena or whatever was put to just to further an agenda. And the damn game is already chock full of them: refugee crisis (help the poor...by stealing from the rich and beating up a helpless guy half to death) , spousal abuse, goblins whining about racism (while more accurately it should be speciesism) and so on.
this item was first published in a d&d book from 1979. back then d&d and other paper/dice rpgs were so fucking progressive that some of them were actually censored over it. now look at us wtf world...
Beamdog is literally made up of Bioware castaways squatting on a nearly 20 year old IP they managed to steal away from a company going through bankruptcy settlement.
Think about the quality of writing and design in Mass Effect 3 and Dragon Age 2.
Now realize that Beamdog is made up of people who were rejected from those teams.

I know some of them like Trent Oster were at Bioware back in the 90's and early 2000's when they still made good games. But it doesn't matter since they're all infected by social justice now.

Somewhat disingenuous, seeing as the primary Biowarian castoffs left long before that point, and they have since hired both Gaider and Knowles, both of whom worked on BG2 and DA Origins, the latter leaving in protest over the development of DA2. And of course Gaider was directly responsible for the quality of writing in DA2 (not that either had anything to do with SoD). The rest of Beamdog is primarily ex-modders and freelancer nobodies.
A far more damning indictment is that Oster was director, producer, and one of the lead designers for Neverwinter Nights, which featured one of the worst single player campaigns of any cRPG ever.

They didn't "steal the IP from a company going through bankruptcy settlement". Don't try to make Atari a victim here. Atari has continuously fucked over every developer they've worked with - that's why they have repeatedly gone through bankruptcy.
This also happened to Beamdog, when Atari broke the contract they had with them. This is what led to Beamdog paying to get more power over the rights to the IP. They didn't "steal" shit. Atari just doesn't give a fuck, they'll backstab you and then sell you anything for a few bucks.
As for the studio being made from people who were rejected from Mass Effect 3 and Dragon Age 2... The developers left during the development of the original Dragon Age, when they were unhappy with the direction being taken by Bioware. That was back in what, 2008-2009? DA2 was in 2011 and ME3 in 2012. The timeline doesn't work at all.
There are many reasons to dislike what Overhaul Games is doing right now. We don't need to create new reasons. And I just really dislike seeing Atari being made into a victim. They're opportunists assholes, no one is taking advantage of them. They're the ones taking advantage of everyone else.

so straight white men can be poorly written even as main characters and no one cares but put one poorly written line about a transgender side character in a addon to a 18 year old crpg and we have scandal wtf...

Actually, taking the Codex as an example, they complain about all instances of bad writing. The trans instance just happens to be particularly jarring.

Even people in that Neogaf thread are pointing out that people criticise badly written "cis" characters just as much.
Edit: Note how SJWs at Neogaf once again attempt to redefine terminology to make their lives easier. X is badly written is now hateful shitlord speech.
