PS I've decided to start playing as a pyromancer. Sorcs suck in this game, at least early-mid game Casting is very slow, enemies are fast, melee damage is pathetic. Pyromancer seems to be a pretty balanced class so far. Then I'll prolly switch to a pure sorc, I haven't decided yet.

Tried tinkering with settings but I only get a couple extra FPS going from max to low so not worth it. 30-40 FPS on average with the 380, seems my ancient CPU is the bottle neck just like in TW3. Looks a lot better than DS2 out of the box, but could still benefit from Gedosato I guess.
Bizarre as it may seem, some have linked atrocious frame-rates to driver clashes with certain USB devices. If you have headsets or other non-vital peripherals plugged in, it might be worth taking them out as an experiment. Especially if you have a PC that should be able to comfortably cope with the game.
So I'm reading all over reddit and the steam forums that people with GeForce 400/500/600 series GPUs get pretty bad fps (unplayable) with the latest driver. BUT when they turn back to a fuckin' 2 years old driver (314.22) they get a HUGE fps improvement. This smells pretty fishy from NVidia's side, and it's shameful.
Huh, it might not be just my PC being bad after all. I tried that one, but since I'm on Win 10 (presumably this is the cause even though for some people it does work on Win 10), the game crashes when I try to load in, I can actually get into the game unlike some people and it loads way faster than with the newest driver.
Doing some more testing with other drivers people are reporting improvements with on Win 10.
the main "problem" with dark souls (and any other 3rd person game) when playing with mouse+kb -> u use the analog stick to regulate your movement speed. just not possible with digital keyboard buttons.
in some games it doenst matter (i.e. gta) but in other games it can be very important (dark souls)
Camera control is a lot faster with the mouse but I sit at the keyboard so much I actually want to give my fingers a rest so I use a pad for this. But now the game keeps crashing left and right. I heard limiting fps to 30 solves crashes so I'm gonna try that next.
There is a strange bug on Windows 10 insider 14295 where the game stutters when you're using a controller (DS4 with Inputmapper in my case, but it happens with X360/XBO controller too)
I even did a video, since I thought I was the only unlucky one, but the problem is widespread.
A FIX for WIN 10 INSIDER 14295:
Quote:
Find Xbox controller in Device manager, right click and "Update driver software"
Select "Browse computer for driver software"
Select "Let me select from a list of device drivers on my computer
Choose the top version 2.1.0.1349 [8/13/2009] (bottom might also work)
Reboot and play
u use the analog stick to regulate your movement speed.
Huh? So what? I can regulate my movement speed just fine if I need to on kb+mouse.Especially if I have XX buttons mouse.
And nothing can come close to mouse effectiveness when it comes to camera rotation and precision. And being aware and FAST about what's happening around you is pretty important in this game imho.
strange that it doesnt crash for me at all and i am on mid-range nvidia/intel laptop with Win 10 running everything on high and getting stable 60

yep , never needed other speed than walk/run anyway and just didint saw the need for it while trying gamepad

Analog movement is not as important as camera precision in Souls game, particularly this and Bloodborne. Enemies are faster, larger, they are more and more creative with their designs. And it doesn't help that the lock on will auto disengage at certain angle and distances.
Analog movement isn't all that important, what's important is aiming the direction of your attacks, which can be done better with mouse.
On PC, we have a myriad of buttons to control movement speed. And you only need to slow down for immersion and sneaking reasons, a simple walk toggle would have suffice.
The only reason Souls are better with controllers is because FROM didn't design the game with that in mind.

I use a controller for this game, but when is that ever even remotely useful?
Shouldn't have consumed the soul of Boreal Valley Vordt. The ring made with his soul seems to be good.
Anyways, 20K souls worth spending on tower key?

well played
They don't really need the big "D" anti-pampers .....
Ha! Once again it shows that making great games that don't require abstruse amenities and shenanigans is the only thing that counts, and always pays off.
(I almost feel bad for downloading it, but I'll make up for it in the future)
Needless to say, that Electronic Farts, Ubi(AAA department), Warnabrotha and the likes are perfectly aware of that, in fact using anti-pampers for them is the only way to squeeze more sales out of their products, when they're either averagely mediocre or present huge performance/optimization issues. Letting the people ISOdemo them would be extremely counterproductive, the D-tyranny (of failure)
It gives you access to some item that you give to the fire keeper, I'm not sure exactly what it does but it gives her the option "cure darksign" or something like that. It also lets you get to the rafters inside the shrine where you can get an estus shard and trade with the crows.

doesnt seem like it supports ultra wide.. i can get the resolution but i have black bars on the sides performance is very good though 60 FPS constant with everything on highest (Nvidia 980ti, driver 362.00, 3440x1440).. controlls seems worse than before, seems more... digital somehow (aiming), i hit past the enemies quite often because my aim (spear) is shit.
@randir14 Got the Shard, the serpent ring by jumping around the tree. But I'm looking for the items inside the tower. Some armor or weapon or something worth 20K souls?

Ordinary skeleton transforming into something ridiculous with huge reach and without clear attack pattern since whole thing is ridiculous jelly like. I am talking about that resident evil like enemy in the initial castle level. It is absolutely ridiculous, no matter what I do it hits me anyway

Spoiler:
While I agree it can be very hard to see properly, they have 2 major weakness. So you can fight it head on like any enemy, but its not really design for that.
@Bob Barnsen Ya it's a trade off. Early on though pure damage is better since you don't have much stats to work with and scaling only gets really good at +8ish iirc
