Probably the worst are those horrible pawn lines written by Captain Obvious himself, like:

"Wolves fear fire!"
"Be careful not to be drenched in water"
"Tis dark during the night"
"We share this road with peddlers and other travellers"
"The sea is much closer than it looks"

Once you hear them for the hundredth time in an hour, you will feel the urge to unscrew your head from your neck.

I just started the game and this is insanity.

MASTER WOLVES. WOLVES HUNT IN PACKS. MASTER! MASTER!! MASTER!!!

I didn't disable them though. I enjoyed the random blabbering.

I wonder how shitty the translation is, or if its that bad in japanese too. it does get rather annoying after a while.

The original console version only had English VO's apparently, Japanese VO's were added later on with the Dark Arisen expansion content if I got it right.

"Mission Failed"

I'd completely forgotten about the batshit insane ludicrous fucking horseshit regarding the "timed" missions and the obtuse, utterly impossible to know, playing "order" for the quests and how they arbitrarily cancel themselves if you take other quests first or if you pass certain areas first -- and ended up being locked out of a *substantial* chain of quests in the game after 25hrs+ of play. Thanks Capcom. Awesome.

Uninstalled.

Yeah, I wasn't a fan of how the quests work in this. Wasn't that bad for me in the end since I like playing games by looking at their wiki pages, heh. Still, I ended up missing on an entire area since I didn't do that quest at the start of the game. And that area is the only place that has a specific plant that you need for other quests later on. Pretty stupid design, huh...

Yup, Witchwood, which gets locked off if you do what the game tells you to do when it tells you to do it. Not only do you lose access to most of Witchwood, but you then lose out on over half a dozen ancillary quests because of it too. I'd completely forgotten about the screwy quest order nonsense.. Sad

Yep, happened to me when playing on the 360. I was pissed off for the rest of the playthrough Laughing Did it now on PC, and i'm not sure if it was worth all that headache. But as a completionist of sorts, it has to be done.

Aye.. I'm a quest completionist and after putting just shy of 25hrs into playing, only to end up locked out of a shitton of content, I just couldn't carry on. Ah well. Damned good PC port though, looks great, runs great, but egh.. I'm done.

I read up on that beforehand and I still screwed up a few things, you tend to forget quickly while playing after all and just get swept up in events.

Without a guide unless you are extremely careful and backtrack constantly you're bound to miss content the way the game urges you forward.
(At least on PC one can alt-tab and back up the save periodically but if the mistake was several hours back then that's still a lot of lost progress.)

It's not that bad. The quests don't cancel themselves like you think. The time in the game is "frozen" when you are doing them. It moves forward when you finish certain main-story quests which makes some side ones to fail because things changed. If you learn which ones are the story ones you will have no issues with finishing the side ones. There are of course some decisions that can lead to different type of quests and quests that require same things which means you have to choose which one to finish. I am most annoyed by the bounty quests, for example: I have already killed 20 wargs but suddenly I find a bounty to kill 0/10 wargs. Or some quests where you earn different rewards depending on what you did during the quest and the only way to know about it is from the wikia or finishing them multiple ways in multiple playthroughs.

Overall the game is very good. The combat is great and all classes are cool (tho the range-able ones have more advantages). After level 50 I started playing solo without pawns and it was much more enjoyable. You level up much faster, more challenging, don't have to waste time looking for pawns in the Rift, run around in battles to revive dead guys or listen to same sentences ( tho I like "Never mind the beast, I'll take the loot!" Very Happy ). I am currently level 137 and finished almost every quest and only left to kill the last boss.

I recommend you to give this game another go, Sabin. I am sure you will like it a lot more if you don't try to be a full completionist (I am still angry I missed to find 1 Badge of Vows because it was in a boss battle area that was sealed after I killed the boss Mad ).

I've already played the game in the past on the 360, this was a replay on PC, so I know I *like* the game - but I am also a quest completionist so I can't just ignore a couple dozen hours of play just because of some arbitrary quest lockouts - and you can't "learn" what they are until *after* they've happened.

Or unless you read wikis and FAQs.. and actually checking a wiki shows I missed a dozen quests way back on my 360 too.

It's just terrible design.

The quest system in this game is annoying indeed which makes it feel more like an MMO than a proper single player RPG. I got about 15 quests lined up and all of them look generic as fuck. I don't even know which one is the main quest anymore, which makes me want to start over, but you can't even start a new game without deleting the old one?

There's also way too much junk loot laying around that I've learned to not pick up anymore.

I know there's a decent game here - it looks great, especially at night when it gets really dark and spooky and the combat itself feels good , but still... I kind of have to force myself through certain crap to get to the good stuff.

I basically spent my play-through alt tabbing between the game and the wiki. I really hate missing anything, my completionist side is almost crippling in games like this.

Though you might as well wait for Reality Pump to overhaul the game engine and release the second expansion pack for it before getting into that game. Razz
(Yeah they're working on it again after all these years, must really love their games and support them or they're badly in need of money after that pirate game flopped, twice.)

Divinity II: Ego Draconis is nice too.

Also Darksiders I & II, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow I & II and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed I and II though these games are linear and more similar to Devil May Cry series.

Yeah, Div2 is (IMO!) absolutely fucking amazing and should be played by everyone. It takes the best parts of aRPGs and combines them with the best parts of cRPGs. Definitely a game in my top lists Smile

Project palm? As in what? Handheld? Mobile?
(Or just a reference to wood... Razz )

(Although if it does turn up to be some mobile moba F2P/P2W game I guess Capcom is prepared for the inevitable face-palm jokes. )

UPDATE: Well, that didn't last long. Capcom isn't about to announce a new Dragon's Dogma, it turns out, with the announcement instead pertaining to a mobile app aimed towards young girls. A leak on Famitsu, picked up by Siliconera, helped clear up the situation a little.
