the whole internet is saying win 8 and above is better in bf4 with video proof to hell and back. I love you and all, but i'll go with overwhelming evidence.

No more derail from me, feel free to have the last word if you wish.

I looked at this back when the game was originally released and Dice confirmed that they made use of DX11.1 (Win8) for the CPU improvements:
“We use DX11.1, there are some optimizations in it (constant buffer offsets, dynamic buffers as SRVs) that we got in to the the API that improves CPU performance in our rendering when one runs with DX11.1. This will be in BF4.”
http://www.guru3d.com/news_story/battlefield_4_gets_dx11_1_dx11_1_will_improve_cpu_performance.html

When it comes to the effect it has on the final FPS... It helps, but it's not an earth-shattering improvement. The link Werelds shows this, but here's someone else that focused on the CPU and its impact on BF4:
http://www.overclock.net/t/1433904/comparison-of-windows-7-vs-windows-8-8-1-ht-enabled-vs-disabled-on-battlefield-4
"Win 7 Means (FPS):
Min: 32.78571429
Max: 120.9285714
Avg: 70.01078571

Win 8 Means (FPS):
Min: 37.85714286
Max: 131.7142857
Avg: 73.03792857"

These also help to see that when limited by your GPU, you don't see much of a difference. But limited by the CPU, and the fps does benefit a lot from Windows 8/10
http://www.hardwarepal.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/BF-4-1920-x-1080-Ultra-settings-GTX-770-vs-7970.jpg
http://www.hardwarepal.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/Battlefield-4-1920-x-1080-Low-settings-GTX-770-vs-7970.jpg

The biggest difference people reported was that Win7 suffered from stutters while Win8 didn't. I personally used W7, W8 and Mantle. I was actually quite limited by my CPU at the time and found W8 to give me a so-so boost and Mantle to help quite a bit.
So it all depends on why someone has poor performance. Someone suffering because of their GPU shouldn't change their OS for better performance. But in the right scenario, it can help quite a bit.

What "overwhelming" evidence from "the whole internet"?

The evidence of some home users with absolutely no information about their setup, who likely did a fresh install over Win8 getting rid of their spyware on 7 versus a reputable site like [H]? Laughing

Sorry, like I said, there are some gains to be made from the lower overhead, but it's not a 25% boost like that video. And that's what the claim is: substantial performance improvements. The difference on most systems is still in the single digits (both percentage wise and in absolute FPS).

And Ixi's results are an indication of something being horribly wrong on his system. There is no way he gets less than 30 FPS when mine hovers between 60 and 115. That's a 100% to 300% improvement.

Using Win10 with StartIsBack and it's a very sexy and fast OS.

I don't like what Iam seeing.
Open world ?
Towers ?
Collectibles ?
Unlocking abilities like roll ?
"Runners vision connected" ?
Keep running to build focus shield ?

man.... fuck that. I would much rather prefer simple story driven linear experience rather than convoluted open world with rooftop mazes.

Who knows. Maybe it will be great indeed... I just don't feel like it really needed a sequel

Don't worry it has motion blur, much better than all these. It's a fake open world, it's not GTA 5. It's still linear IMO.

Thanks to Sabine, I got to try the beta. Played it for 3 hours and am still not sure what to think. Embarassed

Although good on EA for giving us a beta (even if it was closed) that reminded me of the days of yore when we used to get substantial demos. Smile

1 and 2 are still amazing.

@Werelds

DAI ran considerably better (higher fps in general and much more smoother) on WIn8 compared to win 7. Why? Who knows..

Im not a big fan of open world either to be honest. Mirrors Edge linear experience would have been a lot more polished

Look at Watch Dogs. I think it could have been a great game if it was more linear

Open world games often sacrifice other mechanics... but hey! We have huge open world and collectibles !
Thats not a case with every open world game but is most certainly a trend

What mechanics would ME2 be sacrificing beside the level-locked skills?

I'm actually with KC and TC01 on this, very few games can pull off open world properly and too many fall into the "collectibles" trap. It remains to be seen whether Mirror's Edge can do it :\ Even Homefront 2, something I'm seriously looking forward to, has the Far Cry/Assassin's Creed reek to it.

I would think that ME2 would be excellent with it's game-mechanics and the way it's played in an open world. With the free running and all, but we'll see as I do see your concerns.

Yeah I kind of always wanted a successor to Mirror's Edge to be open world. The beta had a lot of content, but still not enough to see if they did the open world style gameplay right. IMOIMOIMO

For me the beta had too mady combat encounters , especially when they are easy like here - you as runner should be running away from the cops most of the time and fight only when necesarry not the other way around like here

I agree with @BloddSpy that Dying Light was fine, mb even perfect because it got me hooked for a looooooong time. As for this game...still haven't played it so cannot compare and tbh I think it will be a while till I play this since a) it has Denuvo so no isodemo and b) it's still way too expensive. Hopefully price will drop after month or two.

EA Access Trial should be live now.

Quote:

6 hours of play time with Mirror’s Edge Catalyst
10 action-packed missions
2 vast districts to explore

No idea how much of the game that translates to, ~25% perhaps, seems like a good figure but it might be much higher.
