Quote:
The magical kingdom of Lucis is home to the world’s last remaining Crystal, and the menacing empire of Niflheim is determined to steal it. King Regis of Lucis commands an elite force of soldiers called the Kingsglaive. Wielding their king’s magic, they fight to protect Lucis. As the overwhelming military might of the empire bears down, King Regis is faced with an impossible ultimatum – to marry his son, Prince Noctis to Princess Lunafreya of Tenebrae, captive of Niflheim, and surrender his lands to Niflheim rule. Although the king concedes, it becomes clear that the empire will stop at nothing to achieve their devious goals, with only the Kingsglaive standing between them and world domination.

One spin-off attached to Final Fantasy XV isn’t enough. Aside from the anime prequel that’s coming out before the release of Square Enix’s long awaited game, the publisher showed off a trailer for a full-length CGI feature film.

Kingsglaive Final Fantasy will tell the story of Noctis’ dad King Regis and the political intrigues that lead to the war that envelops the kingdom of Lucis.

Square Enix is pulling all-star actors who know their way around high-fantasy concepts, too. Lena Headey and Sean Bean—Cersei and Ned Stark from Game of Thrones—will be lending their talents to King Regis and Luna. Aaron Paul of Breaking Bad fame will be playing a character called Nyx.

wonder how they'll make it so that it feels worthy of being a movie and not spoiling too much of the world for the game.

The sounds seems to be slightly off on the trailer (or maybe something's fishy with my browser) . The CGI, though... Me Gusta

The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant.

Aug 19? Sweet. Doubt I'd go watch it in the cinema though.

Anyway I love CGI movies so bring it on.

Kingsglaive is visually spectacular, and while I hope its storytelling isn’t a bad omen for Final Fantasy XV, I found its world and lore absolutely fascinating. The visual effects stun like no other—I don’t think there’s ever been a more beautiful CGI film—and the action scenes are a blast to watch. Unlike Warcraft, which had similar narrative issues, Kingsglaive is never boring. Even the moments that drag are a feast for the eyes. Just don’t feel bad if you need to take a trip to Wikipedia afterwards.

so basically the same as any other final fantasy thing...

looks pretty, and its fun, but with a wackadoodle nonsense story not worth attempting to engage your brain for.

Some of the old games had a good story and characters, but after the 90s, save for maybe one game, it's been consistently dumb.

The movies carrying the FF name have always been absolute crap, in that regard this one actually looks decent and fun.

ok so i watched it...

the plot was.. i guess more coherent than the average final fantasy game/movie... it was marginally interesting...

problem was that it was so badly written. the dialog was dumb, the scenarios at times were downright silly, things happen with no explanation, or if they are explained its always in a really dumbshit way that kinda make you want to go Are You Serious

visually its amazing, but again, its the animation that fails - especially the facial stuff, they just cant emote for shit. I assume that this was rendered twice, once for the english cast and once for the japanese one? I wonder if they put more effort into animating the faces for the jap version...

other than that... honestly, kinda dull. The opening.. 11 or so minutes, were great... and the last.. 20-30 were pretty good, but the hour or so in the middle just.. nothing much happening.

so yeah, didnt really rock me like id hoped, and since i love cgi action films, i guess in a way that makes it worse, because im generally ultra forgiving for these kinds of things.

be interesting to see what the FF fanbase think of the film, but for my part... it was OK... just.. ok... nothing more, nothing less.

I enjoyed this way more than I would have expected!

And extra points for
 Spoiler:

, that was sick. All in all pretty enjoyable, lipsync was pretty mediocre at points but that's my only real complaint I guess.
But the CGI was fricking insane in this movie, way better than Warcraft ever.

Do you need to known anything of the recent FF games to understand this movie?

kinda...

i dont like the ff franchise so to me its pretty cgi with a poorly written story.

a friend says he 'understood everything' because he'd read the wikis and loves the previous games, but for an outsider, youll be able to follow the core of the plot easily enough, but the film wont do a very good job of explaining a lot of the motivations or reasons behind characters or events or things in the world... and if they do, its usually feel very half-assed.

so youll be able to follow it, but youll probably have to disengage your brain a bit to enjoy it and not try and question why some things are happening.

Spirits Within was better. Spirits Within just had the unfortunate luck to be called Final Fantasy.

CG here was all over the place. Animation at times looked great, and weirdly stiff and awkward in other scenes.

Plot was dumb.

Movie was an hour too long.

Characters were pretty meh.
