This looks dumb. Why is this a RE game?! And the next main game in the series no less? The fuck...
Exposure. Well, the story also is probably going to deal with "The Family", RE6 introduced; an ancient Illuminati/League of Shadows like organization that secretly runs the world with the goal to keep it stable. They were behind the decision of the US government to bomb Raccoon City in RE3 as it wasn't done merely to stop the virus from spreading but also destroy any evidence that the US government had a relationship with the highly unethical Umbrella. All this because it was in their best interest (or the world's as they believed at least) for the US to be the world's super power.
This game implies it might take place in a mansion/lab where The Family were doing BOW research - sort of an alternate take on RE1.
Alternatively, "the family" of this game is just a cult with access to viruses.
In RE1 people thought the incidents in Raccoon's forests were caused by cannibals and in this they appear to be thinking they had seen ghosts. In both cases it's likely BOWs.
My point is there are some obvious parallels they are making with the first game.

Lol... Make the same shit game every time with an ever worsening and more convoluted story: get shit for it.
Actually take the time to be a little thoughtful and creative by returning to your horror roots and try a new style: get shit for it.
Pretty much this no one want's the action shit again they got as far as they could with it, and RE4 was the only good one with that style anyway everything is better then that.
This actually looks surprisingly good so far and it could work pretty well with VR and all but ofc people allrdy start moaning cause they can't handle the fact that a franchise has to change in order to stay alive.
Resident Evil 6 is the best selling game in the series. Another game like it will be made.
Also there's a glimpse of a shotgun in the trailer, aim assist on the options and an attack button on the manual.. The game will likely not play exactly like what you see in the demo.

Fucking ace, great cover art!

Hmm, if it has combat and it's not just another first person jump-scares simulator, it's not as bad, it's just that this reveal made it seem like one of those. I absolutely hate those games.
Also, the cover would be really cool if it didn't look like a touched-up screenshot, things don't even look like they fit together. The idea is fine, but it should be made from scratch by one of their artists or something. Also, they actually stylized the title in a decent way this time around, I like it.

Oh because I used the word cannibal in relation to RE1 on this page so I thought maybe you got the two games confused.
In any case there are some potential connections to the RE games teased and the gameplay could be pretty different from what we see too.
Also that isn't a full playthrough because no one has managed to unlock all the endings so far.

No no, I was talking about the actual demo. It didn't give off a Resident Evil vibe to me, more like Hills Have Eyes or something It could be a fantastic game, sure, but.. I dunno, I'm expecting zombies from Resident Evil. Or hell, at least Las Plagas?
SO, HERE ARE THINGS I'VE DISCOVERED AFTER PLAYING THIS DEMO FOR A FEW HOURS:
-To get the Fuse, you need to pull the lever in the fireplace and go inside and get it before you watch the video tape, the fuse disappears after that. Fuse will give you access to the attic.
-In the video tape, there is a lockpick behind the microwave in the kitchen on the floor. Using the lockpick on the locked drawer in the kitchen will make it available in the current era to be open, where one can find the Axe.
-You can pause the game and choose 'stop video' while playing a video tape to stop the video tape and return to the main game early, BUT win conditions for the video tape that will make the backyard key appear (which only appears after you finish the videotape scenario) will not appear until you see the ending of the sequence.
-You can unlock the backyard door with the key and not open it (which will not kill you, only kills you if you open it).
-The Axe has a heavy attack, which you can use by holding L2 and then swinging it.
-Checked every corner of the videotape and regular world, literally everything one could think of, to see if there was another hidden item like the Lockpick. Nothing, and literally spent an hour searching.
-Up the stairs to the second floor, there are three mannequins there. If you enter the room and look away from them regularly, they will turn around to look at you, and a new mannequin you can move will spawn by the stairs. If you activate the stairs to the attic with the fuse beforehand, the mannequin cannot spawn on this floor. There is a phone in the attic who will change what the person on the line will say based on whenever you made the mannequin spawn or not. If you made it spawn, it will give you a line about memory. If you did not spawn it, it will give you a line about choice. No idea what difference this might make.
-After you pick up the phone, you'll usually die, but if you have the axe, you can swing your axe around to get back to the first floor and you'll be fine.
-In the videotape, there are various scenes of a 'ghost'. I have seen her spawn in three locations, outside across from the door the guy kicks in, in the hall in the room with the hanging dolls standing in a corner, and when you climb down the ladder to get to the basement. She always is only on screen for a second and then disappears, and she only seems to appear if you are in the right place at the exact right time when the other two characters are going along their automated cinematic path. If you go too far ahead to early, or come to late, you seem to miss it. The easiest one I have had time triggering is the one in the hanging doll room, which appears as soon as the guy peeks in and turns around if you follow at the right time. In the RE7 trailer, there is also two split second images that show this same ghost in two areas in the demo I have not managed to see her in, one in the window behind the microwave, one peaking her head through a hole in the ceiling.
-You can use the axe to destroy the boxes and the mannequins you can move, but I have found no other practical or useful use for it yet. The same goes for the Mannequin Fake Finger, found absolutely no use yet.
-Not sure if important, but the phone cable is notably blue, and an interesting detail, you can find a low-hanging blue cable from the phone in the kitchen by the entrance from the front hall. Not sure if important or an attention to detail.
-In the RE7 trailer, it shows areas from the demo, but it shows a few rooms that we haven't found yet, implying there's some rooms we haven't been to yet in the demo (they all look to be set around the demo area).
---
It seems there's more to the demo, and maybe a better ending than the, 'Part of the family,' one everyone has found. I am stuck at the Axe and Mannequin. What makes this trickier is as the Fuse can disappear if you don't pick it up before the VHS tape and how the Mannequin can change the phone call message, it implies some small things can change or lock you out of things, so maybe there's some combination of actions you need to do to progress?
My bigger guess is maybe you have to somehow do a 'perfect run' with the ghosts in the video tape. How they appear is so precise to make it work, maybe being able to spot every ghost will do something? Two ideas.
I'm breaking for now, but will try again later. Hoping someone may find more than I have.

Yeah - a subtle noise filter usually improves an already solid illustration/poster (usually even the shitty ones) - I use it on most of my illustrations and sometimes it almost feels like cheating
Otherwise very nice cover, sorta reminds me of the "forest" cover from RE4 if I remember correctly (just an overall feel ofc)
It's funny how RE7 has the "biohazard" subtitle and BH7 has the "resident evil" one.
Now The Evil Within 2 (where is itttttt) has to be named "The Evil Within 2: Psycho Break" and the Japanese version "Psycho Break 2: The Evil Within".

On the backside it's written "Are they watching us from that helicopter?"
Considering Umbrella collapsed in 2004 the picture must be 13+ years old (the game takes place in 2017). So the plot could be related to one of the earlier RE games, one way or another.
Personally I am getting RE1 vibes so far so my bet would be if there's an explicit connection to previous games it will be related to the Mansion Incident.

TBH nothing of that sounds really interesting too me.
Just because someone writes something to every little thing encounters, doesn't make those things better than they really are.
Will wait for some better gameplay. But so far i'm not excited at all.

Looks meh. Why would they want such a drastic change for the franchise? I know it became more pew-pew than horror in the last decade or so, but this looks really, really bizarre for a RE game.

We're still facing a ton of challenges (laughs). For starters, there's the whole process of developing games for the newest next-generation consoles. Every solution we came up with seemed to create more problems than it solved, so it has really been one step forward, two steps back the whole way.
I suppose eventually that RE7 got scrapped, maybe 2 years ago or so.
With the rise of VR and youtube streamers playing this type of horror games they must have decided to make this, which they can make cheap and fast.
This is made on another engine which they created only very recently, last year they had the Kitchen VR demo on a VR engine and they said they would be making a new one so that they can make full blown VR games in it - and kind of hinted they were talking about a RE game. "They", as in the Resident Evil development team of Capcom. http://www.polygon.com/2015/10/13/9521359/resident-evil-capcom-virtual-reality
So they scrapped whatever they were working for years for technical reasons (it might also had been bad) and because they couldn't afford to waste even more years without a main RE game on the market they looked to make something cheap and fast but also popular with certain audiences. And it's numbered 7 to sell better (VR is a very young market and it can use all the help it can get).
But like I said make no mistake more games like RE5/6 will happen in the future. It's also why they didn't reboot the game universe - they could had easily done it this time for this game, but they didn't because they intend to revisit Chris, Leon etc in future games.
This is like P.T., meant to give you a feeling of the direction, not of the actual story and gameplay. (Of course that doesn't mean that the final game will be 100% different).
edit They said it's been in development since 2014. So I'm right on the money on original RE7 being scrapped "maybe 2 years ago or so".
I guess what followed:
2014 - 2015 early development of concept and research
2015 the Kitchen VR demo -> well received -> full blown development of RE7 greenlit
2015 - 2016 making the game
The Resident Evil 7 demo currently available on PS4 for PlayStation Plus subscribers isn't actually part of the full game.
Capcom confirmed this to Eurogamer earlier today, where it was also confirmed that the full game will star a different lead character than the man in the demo.

but its no wonder, all the raw talent left crapcom long ago,
the fathers of resident evil, shinji mikami and hideki kamiya both
left after re4, and since then the series has suffered alot.

RE5/6 was total crap and no one actually liked it, the action train is gone and RE should never have been part of it in the first place im glad they got the message with the remakes and this game and they are making horror games again instead of stupid action crap for COD kids.
I'm currently listening to the developers' interview.
There's combat, resource management, puzzles etc in the full game. They wanted to make a demo that focused on the horror experience to point out they are bringing that aspect back.
