AMD also did better (including the 390) at higher res:

People just prefer Nvidia regardless. It's their choice.

The 390 runs fine for a minute or two, then it starts to throttle because it can't handle it's own stock speeds.

Fail troll is fail.

970 and 390 might have been neck and neck at launch but with uptodate drivers, the 970 is really no match for the 390 anymore today.
And with all the driver issues Nvidia seems to be having every other driver or something, I'm not sure how one can take them seriously even.

the question is - does it perform better in games (which clearly favor nDerpia) or only in benchmarks, coz you can shove the benchmarks up ur ass.

I'm astounded to see how many people are so shortsighted and pay premium for what is basically a scam by nVidia. Why would anyone buy the FE-edition for full price? The entire marketing scheme incl. slapping Founders Edition in the product title is a blatant attempt to get people to buy the stock card (that people usually don't buy anyway since they want custom cooling, custom PCB, better/different components etc.) at exorbitant prices.

On the other hand I think AMD is in a really good spot. The RX 480 will be the mest price/performance-card on the market and for that kind of budget it's almost unbelievable.

For people with older cards (pre-290/390/Fury - 970/980/980Ti) the RX 480 is a cheap yet powerful GPU that doubles the performance of more. It's not a flagship GPU (it was never meant to be one), it's perfectly adequate for a revolutionary price.

The one thing that is biting AMD in their asses is the fact that nVidia still have masses of fanboys that will swallow whatever nVidia produce and they'll even pay handsomely to be slightly ripped off.

Me? I'm probably going to replace my aging but still adequate overclocked MSI 7950 O/C (1100/1700) with a 480. I still have an old 22" Samsung monitor with a native resolution of 1680x1050 which mean I don't need the draw and fill power for 2.5k to 4k resolution gaming.

In fact, I might wait for the RX 485 (a possible upcoming card with a fully unlocked/full Polaris 10 GPU).

Meanwhile I found a pricing-chart for the RX 4x0-series (in €);
http://forums.videocardz.com/topic/1488-first-prices-of-rx-460-rx-470-rx-480/

If those are proper prices it's a nice surprise. No 30-40% price hike that can be blamed on taxes or currency-tricks.

been reading about asus cards lately. some guy working in a hardware store said they had a big issue a few years back due to asus factory OCing VRAM on some AMD cards, which was over the RAM's spec, and caused an insane amounts of RMA's Laughing

I personally avoid asus products since the socket 775 days, where I had two of their mobo's die within months, only to have a gigabye mobo with all the same exact rest of the hardware last half a decade for me and I even sold it on after I moved on to a new socket.

For me it was this:
Main reason is I was doing a 'forced' upgrade to my machine due to hardware issues. And had the cash on hand at the time. If I would have waited I would have chickened out or spent it on something else stupider.
Other reason is its not like the non reference ones are going to double or even 1 and 1/2 beat the FPS of the stock one. Maybe with custom cooling and aggressive limit OC'ing it might add 10-15% FPS or so . But I never OC my vid cards just my CPU. so a stock card, and a aftermarket factory overclocked one MIGHT make 2-4% fps difference.
And lastely I wanted an external venting card for once just to see the case temp and cpu temp differences it makes. (Thinking of going mini/micro ATX next case and will need external vent anyway).
