Go to steamapps folder and open appmanifest_325610.acf with notepad++, add these to the list of "MountedDepots":
"335030" "4697000815243238048"
"343462" "111459676542852077"
"343464" "6018168670970312235"
it should show the dlcs as installed in steam library, You also need the dlc files.

I should have said, I tried that too. Obviously I have also copied the DLC's across. No joy.

That's weird. You know on line 48 of preferences.script...
external_browser false; # external_browser <bool>, Use external browser for encylopaedia, internal browser if set to false #
I was sure I was playing the old Reloaded version of Attila offline with a working (albeit bit broken) encyclopaedia... or no wait... was I thinking about the Emperor Edition of Rome II??
It was one of them I'm sure. I was pretty surprised it was working at all. Or wait... maybe that was just down to the work of 3DMGAME? Does the official Steam version of Rome II have an offline encyclopaedia now or is it only working with a crack?
Oh and in case anyone reading this doesn't know, you can always look at those horrible encyclopedias externally. Attila = http://attila-enc.totalwar.com, Rome II = http://dsi0fanyw80ls.cloudfront.net and a slightly better one at http://www.honga.net/totalwar/rome2/index.php?l=en&v=rome2

Warhammer's in-game (and quite shitty) encyclopedia is also online-only, but it's exactly the same as the one accesssible via browser.

I really hate the online encyclopedia, it means modders can't add descriptions to custom units they add.

Cool, thanks, good to know. BTW you're right about the browser encyclo reading, that's why i pasted the links above dude *passes dank meme doobie back to ser slavvy*
EDIT: just reinstalled Rome II to check... checking... OK yup, encyclopaedia IN offline. v2.2.0 Build 15539.624930 Total.War.ROME.II.Emperor.Edition.v2.2.0.15539.Incl.DLC.Cracked-3DM
who knows why CA removed it (other than the embarrassment)
BTW, there's something else working fine with 3DM's Rome II as well as the encyclopaedia. 'Mackles Rome Total War Music' mod (music_rtw.pack) still works. You know, his total music conversion of original RTW. I wouldn't even play Rome II without it but i heard the latest CA build messed it up and he never updated it... um, maybe cos he's still on Total.War.ROME.II.Emperor.Edition.v2.2.0.15539.Incl.DLC.Cracked-3DM
Any ideas how mangaKat got the PLAZA Attila encyclopaedia working offline in Attila? Not essential of course but would be noice. Funny, when official Steam version doesn't have it offline lol

So, I started playing Attila again yesterday... and damn, is this a huge letdown. :-\
The battles (and sieges in particular) are utter shite! I am using a mod to slow battle speed down ofc, but it's still a fucking mess of blobbing units, with the men in the back just wanking about. Cringeworthy.
Even though I hate the even faster combat in Warhammer, not to mention the fucked-up and simplified sieges, yet the batte mechanics are overall better at least.

Full release should be tomorrow (you can optin for the beta). |
Tried Rome II again briefly before Attila, had the same problem with battles (sieges, mainly) : they're a huge blobfest.
Will give it another go, though -- provided there's an updated cracked release.

Just wait for tomorrow. New patch comes out of beta, with the power and politics stuff.
Battles are way less blobby imho and also performance is a lot better.

That's the plan, although I don't believe it for a second that battles are less blobby.
I mean, battles are still a blobby mess in the up-to-date Attila as well (I own that, so no crack-related bugs there). And it's a more recent game than Rome II...

Not sure about Attila, but Rome II has a "keep formation" button, which makes units stay in formation during fighting (or uncheck it to let them blob).
