thats my plan, i can afford 1070 but I'd rather spend my money on something else, certainly not a stock variant, gonna wait for msi version, taking one for a team, lmao gtx 780 has worse performance than 960 in doom, unlike nV amd doesn't degrade their cards

RX 480 8G listed at about 230 euro. |
That price is without VAT. With VAT it's around €287 |

http://www.guru3d.com/news_story/geforce_gtx_107_and_1080_dvi_pixel_clock_at_330_mhz_issues.html
The reference / founder editions of the 1070 and 1080 has a (bios?) issue making the DVI-D connection broken if you go above a 330 Mhz pixel clock.
(Which seems to correspond to roughly 81 Mhz refresh rate for 1920x1080)
Quote: |
A bug for Pascal seems to have surfaced, while it only effects a very small number of end-users, the impact could be serious if you own a high refreshrate monitor that uses Dual-LinK DVI solely.
As it stands right now end-users with a founders edition 1070/1080 card (thus not AIB custom cards) that make use of the dual-link DVI connector could notice problems with booting in-to Windows with pixel clocks set higher at 330 MHz. Now, the circumstances of that happening is slim, VERY slim. The issue was reported on GeForce.com and now is confirmed by multiple end-users.
So basically users are reporting that if the refresh rate on their (dual-link DVI) monitor exceeds 81 Hz (the highest number achievable while staying under 330 MHz pixel clock), they are unable to boot into windows and the welcome screen is replaced by flashing colors on their monitors. They are unable to boot into Windows until the pixel clock returns to a number under 330 MHz. All this means that dome users with an overclocked Korean monitor (Qnix/Yamakasi) as such could be effected. We assume this could be reproduced on any DL-DVI display that surpasses a 330 MHz pixel clock, but most monitors with a pixel clock of 330 or higher simply use something like Displayport.
If you run into the issue, simply use DisplayPort. If you can't, you'll need to boot into safe mode reset your monitor Hz to a lower value (under 81 Hz) and continue + repeat from there on until Nvidia fixes this (if they can fix it).
|
EDIT: Also the 480 compatible display driver leaked.
http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?p=5295700#post5295700
(Only compatible with a 480 GPU until someone modifies the .inf files.)

It irks me that they are talking about Vega releasing in October like it's a sure thing. The source for that is a random forum post on 3DCenter. There was also that Italian reviewer but his source was wrong about Polaris so his Vega info isn't trustworthy either. Plus, wouldn't this contradict Koduri's tweet? I don't think 3 months is such a "long way to go".

@jbeckman i'd love if they'd get rid off legacy dvi support honestly even the screens i bought over 6years ago don't use dvi anymore and the panels that don't use hdmi are usually cheapy pos (there's a few exceptions but in my book no hdmi = a dead screen for me these days)
i'd rather see 2 hdmi ports replace the 2 legacy dvi ports on alot of cards hell it's not like dvi > dp connectors are that expensive

God no. DVI is still the highest used connector by average people and average gamers.
2 of my 3 my monitors are DVI. They arent bad monitors by any means, not top of the line but the 24" decent display dell ones. just a few years old.
All my sons are DVI connected.
No way Id want to shell out over $100+ dollars to get all active adapters.
Until DVI is truly gone the way of vga plugs, they would shoot themselves in the foot to remove them.

@dxwarlock yeah true but wouldn't mind a mild removal of them atleast they're not chucking 3 or more on gpu's anymore these days just wished they'd stop not including hdmi on screens released in 2015 from batches in 2016

Id be all for it, if they include the adapter you need like they use to with DVI to VGA.
I hate trying to figure out which needs passive, or active adapters depending on what other channels its tied to. Wouldnt be that big a deal to just get active 'incase' if the price difference wasn't like $20 between active and passive adapters.
Like one of mine needs active if I want to use 3 monitors and the vive, while my sons BOTH need active to use 2 displays and the oculus.

@dxwarlock true some stuff would highly benefit from being standardized but yeah doubt that's going to happen anytime soon

dafuq. no. poor people don't upgrade screens until they die. I'm on a viewsonic screen since 2008, and without DVI i'd have to spend the monies saved up for a new gpu, for a monitor. you gotta realize, that outside of the states, people don't treat equipment nearly as disposable as you guys do.

Does the 480 have better DX12 support than the 970 does?

That and the 8GB will most probably be the only things it will have going for it.

It's still a very good purchase for someone who wants the speeds of a 970 for the price of a 960

AMDs drivers have a history of getting alot better with time though. Just look at where 290(X) was when it first came out to how it performs nowadays compared to Nvidia.

oh i see
still wait for a proper tests and reviews from much more reliable sources than kurwastan | If your only complaint regarding the reliability is that it's from kurwastan, well than that's just sad. Instead you should question their testing methods and how those numbers came to be. I could point to several shitty american, english or german hardware guides.. It's all about the methodology.
@Freiwald: Well the numbers are based on the drivers that are out now, how is this card going to be any slower with these already released drivers? It's not shit, you are just on a hyperbole, for the price it's actually a quite great card.
