Do you mean the master link?

If so, I used that and have been using chains that use that mechanism for locking for some time now with no issues.

I've got one like this:

I think it's a slightly better (symmetric) construction in terms of possible breaking, don't know how it compares in manual "unlinking"

I think the very first modification will be the crankset, I'm not so satisfied with the Alfine atm.

Omnium, maybe?

Well, do make sure the closed off area is facing the direction of travel of the chain when pedaling forward, so the rear section is behind when chainlink is up top, and facing forward when chainlink is at the bottom after passing through the crank.

Though I think that's the only thing to note as I haven't had any failures yet, luckily.

If you're going with Omniums, make sure to get a shop to face the bb shell, otherwise it might get a bit creaky and the like

Basically it's when you sort of even out the paint on the bottom bracket shell where it interfaces with the cup for the outboard bottom bracket.

It's so the bottom bracket is installed evenly and not at an angle due to paint / frame imperfection

Pausing the investments on the bike, for the reasons I told you on PM.

Last week i've removed the pedals, chain, wheels and gave them a proper clean and greased back in. I have a weird creak when I press the left pedal and i can feel the feedback in my leg . I have to open it again and see what's wrong.

Oh dang. Creaks are the hardest and most annoying things to diagnose. Maybe check the frame if you're taking it apart, see if there are any cracks. Hopefully not. Proceed to tightening everything else and greased properly if no issues found.
