I was just talking to one of my cousins in the US (Corpus Christi, Texas) and we were talking about the differences and similarities between Americans and Canadians.
The conclusion we came to, aside from our small minor cultural differences, we are basically the same.
I wanna know what everyone else thinks - europeans, asians, mideast ppl, americans and canadians, everyone here. Its interesting to me, not only to know what other Canadians and Americans think, but also how the world views both of our countries.
Please, no flaming or talking shit about anyone's country or "americans are better than canadians because" or "canadians are better than americans because"...I dont want to turn this into an anti american thread or a pure country bashing thread. We have enough of them already

Canada is more at the left and usa at the right .
Example : Canada prohibite guns , usa dont .
Canada want to legalize pot , usa dont want .
Canada is rich because of usa . Canada cant work without usa , usa can work without canada . Canada are hypocrite for me , when it come to help usa or give them a public support .
USA is 80% of our exportation and my pri minister has no respect to them .
I prefer USA system , but without GUNS . I think usa system work better .
I dont think canada will stand forever , soon quebec will break and some other province are on the move as we speak .
Canada use USA to defend himself but dont want to pay the price . PPl here are againts STAR WAR weapons but we need it . If you cant understand WHy we need space weapons before others , its because you dont understand how this world work .
This is very hyporcrite .
Its full of usa secret service in canada now , FBI DO BUST IN CANADA NOW because of terro!!!
But lets say our pri minister is Honest AND DO what canadian want to do .
I dont think leader should listen regular ppl because most of them dont understand jack shit .

You pay city tax (4000 each year)
This is for someone who had a "normal salary and own a house and car , you need to pay a lot more in fact but lets take only these .
If your poor or a lamer
You 15% of taxe for all your buy , but the gov give it you back at the end of the year
You pay 20% of tax on your paycheck
You dont own a car because you sux .
You pay no city tax
IN CANADA YOU RECEIVE
The SAME SERVICE if YOU PAY NOTHING .
You get a poor medical service when you pay the hard price on your paycheck
You have bad road , fulll of hole everywhere .
You dont have an army to defend yourself .

Naw man....the FBI does not have jurisdiction in Canada...trust me. Like I said, they will work with the RCMP and may even participate in a bust...but as for the FBI coming to your house or where u are and arresting you, solely by themselves, wont happen...in Canada we have Canadian law, so American law doesnt apply and thats what the FBI goes by...
Seriously tho, prove me wrong...like give me a link to a news article or something...because I watch the news everyday, Canadian, American and British (CBC, CNN and BBC) and I have never heard of the FBI acting alone in a foreign country, as you suggest. There is always collaboration with whatever country's Federal Police Force.

I remeber its been told on radio and tv last year . I dont have the link .
To be honest , i think USA has full control of canada security now . They wont tell you .
Anyway , its the same for NORAD , its all under usa leadership .
But im sure RCMP are always there to look at their action.
Anyway , i trust amaricain for the terro matter .
I personaly cross the border and NEVER HAD any problem with them , they are kind and respectfull .
Ive been arrested by police in north carolana for a check , even if they checked all the car , they was kind enought to let in the police car because it was cold outside and let me go 1 hour later .

Lets add this .
I think my contry is a good place to live . I also think its a good nation . I dont think quebec should leave .
But i think its time for the canada goverment move and stop bashing on our best friend , the usa .
We should give better support to them and be more cooperative .

Seriously dude, you are wrong. The Americans do not control out security at all...especially now since our government is leaning toward being more outspoken against the US Government.
Seriously, I dont know where u get your distorted views...but your dead wrong.
Like i said, our intelligence agencies work hand in hand but none have total freedom in either country. CSIS cant go into the US and arrest ppl, they'd have to call the FBI or CIA who would make the arrest then deport them back to Canada for trial. Same goes for the Americans...
Anyway, back on topic.
My whole aim is not to say who is better than who, cuz really, no one is better than anyone. Country, ppl, whatever. We all have certain characteristics that are negative and positive.
I was talking more on a personal, ppl level. Not government related shit.
Like we spell shit differently from americans, but we look the same as americans and talk the same (well, southern canada and the northern us), we share alot of the same holidays and values etc

Canada seems like a mixture, an almost perfect blend between America and northwestern Europe.
America is... well. America. It's OK, I guess. I want to live there one day. I'd live in Canada but it's too damn cold.

I think the two countries are similar but have grown apart based on politics. For example, many Canadians claim the US is too militaristic and puts too much emphasis on its military. Could that be because the US protects Canada so they don't have to worry about having much of a military? Missile shield? Same thing...Canadians know we'll probably protect them regardless of how irritating they can be.
The only real difference is political. My theory is that Canadians want to keep their identity, so by having such different views they can keep their Canadian identity and avoid becoming the 51st state. Canadians are generally good folks.

I was reading something i while back and what they said what interresting .
What we seams to forgot is all the PUBLICITY ADS the usa gov does to usa citizen .
Canadians dont see this tons of ads the same ppl of the south see , i think your difference is there .

me missus is canadian (i'm german). when i met her and got married we lived in detroit (her work). now we're living in canada again. and to be honest, i don't see a big difference between the people in states (detroit) and in canada (i won't compare the two countries based on politics). both have very friendly people, and also cunts and assholes. every country has those. the only mayor difference between both is, canada is MUCH cleaner 
p.s. who gives a fuck about quebec?

What i found out in Australia. People think western Canadians sound alot like northern americans. Some people knew right away that i was canadian. But others asked "No offence, but are you American or Canadian" . Im not sure what the reaction would have been if i was american, but when i said Canadian they treated me very well. And spoke very highly of Canadians. Most Americans i have met in my travels have been alot like Canadians, but some. Id say 1 out of 100 i met fit exacly with the typical arogent American asshole steriotype who think they run the world. But they were also(not 100% sure but they were dumb as bricks) uneducated.

Being Canadian I would say a major difference would be in our thinking.We as Canadians tend to be more liberal and forward thinking in comparision to our neighbors and this is expressed through our elected officials.We are looking into decriminalizing pot,we've recognized gay marriage under the law, we provide healthcare to every citizen insured or not.
As far as our Military is concerned we are not a heavily defended nation but we do have a significant defence force although with some aging equipment,currently the government is infusing more money to beef up our military but for the most part we're a peacekeeping nation because thats what most Canadians want,we don't want a uber military force and frankly within the scope of the whole thing we don't really need one because we don't force our ideals,values or foriegn policies on other nations.We're respecting of other cultures and on a political level work to find a solution to solve our differences rather than sending in the troops to solve them.
In the view of the world I believe we are regarded quite highly as citizens who are very warm,inviting,understanding and tolerant of others and their beliefs as we sit around and drink alot of beer and watch hockey...LOL.
As far as our political scene we have to stand apart on certain issues from our neighbors because as Canadians our views,beliefs,wishes for the betterment of our nation don't always coincide with what our neighbors aspirations are as we do have different views.Like mom always said just because your best friend jumped off a cliff would you?

I think its more this than what you are saying .
You said we dont need an army because we dont attack like usa do but in fact you know that we dont have an army because we know usa defend us .
If usa was not there in ww2 , the whole world would be NAZIS today , if usa was not there for cccp , the whole world would be COMMUNIST today .
