I worked on and off for it for a couple of years, but I ended up spending all my earnings on something else. Then last year, after they announced that the precursors can be crafted in the expansion I started working for it again. Did events for ectos, spent my huge amount of karma for obsidian, used laurels for T6 mats and so on. In the last 2 months I've been grinding for gold to cover some of the expenses and I went on with the crafting of the precursor. I thought the last phase will be horrible, but I actually managed to do all the events, fractals and jumping puzzles in one day. Very Happy

Yeah, aside of the new axe which looks amazing, Twilight is for me the best looking legendary. Thanks!

Heh, it was super crazy before they added crafting option for precursor.

Remember gambling in 1000-2000+ swords just to get a precursor. Laughing Sad

I had mats for like 700-800 greatswords, but I gave up on the idea. I think around 10k greatswords was the ideal number to get a precursor and there is always a 50% chance to get the one you don't want. Very Happy
It's not like crafting it is easy or cheap. It's around 700-800g plus the time spent on various tasks. But crafting makes it safe.

The new legendaries have insane requirements in terms of materials. I looked over the axe ydy and I couldn't believe it, someone needs a lot of free time and gold to get that...

What bugged me the most was, when lurkers managed to pull precursor just by gambling less than 20 swords/weapons. Mad Even in our guild quite many managed to get it very quick with minimal work, while I was collecting gold and trying my shot at Forge daily. Mad

It was fun though. Running around, clearing dungeons over and over again, collecting mats and saving every gold just to fail. Sad Laughing

I got the axe a month or so ago, the material requirements are really shit, completely negates the fun aspects of the precursor quests. Luckily I've played on and off since the game came out so I had a lot of the time gated stuff already, but still, painful handing over all those materials for one skin.

Spear is the king of legendaries though Very Happy

Yes. HoT gives you access to four new areas which have pretty cool in design but a pain to do alone since they are quite vertical and riddled with group events and powerful monsters.
The story is formed of 4 acts with a bunch of episodes each, which are instanced missions. The story is a little fragmented (seems like a problem with most games/movies nowadays) and could have used a few more missions to tie things together, but is pretty cool nevertheless.
There are new elite specializations for each profession and a new profession as well. Masteries, gliders, new achievements, new items, raids, etc.
Also, if you are a free to play player you get rid of the limitations.

I don't have group of player I play with, I only group up when I meet somebody in game, otherwise I solo, and what you said worries me.

Also I have base game (bought it at launch back in 2012), so I am little on fence even at this price, it just doesn't look like it has lot of content?

You'll find people that are doing the same events or going for the same Hero Points, don't worry. The maps are pretty populated.

I probably would just load up the game if you did not need to expansion to unlock that mission as I remember they did something similar a year or 2 back but if you did not log in when the mission was running you had to pay like 300 gems to unlock that part of the story which I thought was dumb after missing the first part of it by a day.

I just finished the episode and it was quite awesome, aside of the Caudecus scene which was anticlimactic as hell. Taking into consideration the ending of this episode, I'm wondering if they are planing to continue everything through Living Story or they are building for another expansion.

Living story and expansion. They did some AMA on reddit yesterday and ANet's president said:

Quote:
At the end of Season Two we had all shifted from Living World onto Heart of Thorns. So between Season Two and Season Three we've rebuilt and restaffed the Living World team.
My goal is to make sure we have a sustainable cadence and don't have to take down Living World to deliver the next expansion.

For me it's the most playable MMO on the market. I'll probably switch to Crowfall if it turns out to be what they promised and it's not retardedly hardcore.

You'd be surprised. Smile Heck, "I" am surprised when I visit starting areas and I see them always populated by new people joining in / playing. Smile

I still log in almost daily and I still appreciate how dynamic, full of life and saturated with purpose everything feels while playing this. Well, for me, at least, heh.

Some pic I took recently, as I could not believe how many people would gather for a single event, on a single map:

Well, I'm glad so many are enjoying it.

To me, it's the most blatantly meaningless and shallow MMO out of all the "big ones".

Why is that? It's a casual MMO where is easy for everyone to be equal in power, the difference comes from skill and looks (the vanity!).

Pretty much. You can do a lot of big events in the original areas. You have full access to sPvP and WvW features, but you can't use the new elite specializations. You have full access to all the fractals and the game's dungeons.
With the expansion you can go to the Jungle of Maguuma (4 new big areas), access masteries, raids, elite specializations and the new Living Story.

I'm not a casual player and I don't think "easy for everyone" is a quality as such.

Story is shit with awful presentation and even worse voice acting.
Hearts are painfully obvious busywork.
Dynamic events are "mob click events" with minimal underpinning.
Interesting progression stops way too soon.
Limited arsenal.
Pointless "toys" and garbage explodes in your inventory.
Trinity was replaced with nothing - making it worse than not having it.
Loot is boring, making crafting boring.
Combat, while fluid, has a severe lack of variety.
PvP consists of either the zerg or a sports match. I like war - not sports.
I actually love vertical progression and I don't think taking it away makes a game great.
I don't find hunting for skins worthwhile.
I don't think jumping puzzles makes for great exploration.

I could go on, but you get my point I'm sure.

The story is pretty good for an MMO. I don't know what you disliked at the voice acting, Rytlock, Zoja and many others sound awesome.
Everything that leads to "endgame" is busywork for leveling in a MMO.
Many events are designed to find a ton of mobs, some aren't. They do keep the world alive.
It's enough progression to keep you occupied. Now there are masteries and there is the achievements progression which is extremely rewarding.
Arsenal is varied enough. Each class has access to a bunch of weapons which comes with a bunch of different abilities.
The inventory and bank management in this game is the best I've seen in a MMO, so there is no problem there.
Trinity is a system I dislike and while GW2 didn't find a perfect answer to that, what it has works and I'm ok with that for now.
The itemization is in-depth enough for an MMO and the crafting works great and has a lot toit.
Open PvP is a zerg in most games since MMO's can't take advantage of a proper physics and also have a design to fit a larger number of players. The sPvP is competitive enough, nothing like GW1 sadly.
The combat is disappointing for me, I wanted it to be more action oriented with more mobility. Still I prefer it over the static click fests of older MMOs.
The endgame discussion is subjective as hell, no point in talking about that. Some ppl like a carrot on a stick system with better items to replace the older ones, I find that terrible.
Jumping puzzles do add great value to exploration as well as mini-dungeons. The problem with jumping puzzles is the clunky movement system.
