Nice back plate, but its coming off:
Hmm, yup:
I think a whole tube of thermal must have been put on there, as most of it has been compressed to the sides:
All cleaned up:

Well, its running, lol:

very nice card. im jealous.
but it's no problem at all with too much paste. it's a myth. you can put 2 packs of paste on it. it would still work, with the same temps. there are enough guys by now who tested this.
(not that i would do it but it's no sign of something bad)

One thing that annoyed me, as regards the PSU, is that the fan never spun, it just sat there silent and clicking occasionally, wanting to spin, but couldn't. Deliberate from Corsair?, who knows?, as the only way to get it running was to use their shitty god awful buggy software, and even then, the min speed would be 40%, and that was loud, even at that.
The Yate Loon crap fan just sat stalled without the Corsair Link telling it to run.
No longer.
Have modded the unit as per below thread, with a Noiseblocker B12-PS, which removes the need for the Corsair Link altogether, and it runs at an inaudible 400rpm, plus it kinda matches with the system

Couple of shitty pics with it running:

Well.
I decided to give MSI a try with a MB again, and I have never been happy with it in all honesty.
They let themselves down with silly things, that may seem to be trivial, but they matter to the few who use them.
I got rid of my last MSI board because the 'Killer Lan' irritated me, went back to ASUS, all was fine.
I opted for the MSI board this time, because they ditched the shit lan, only to find they added shit audio instead. Not quite true though, as the hardware audio is pretty good, just the software implementation is shocking.
Read here - http://www.anandtech.com/show/9626/msi-z170a-gaming-m7-review/4
(scroll down to Nahimic Audio)
Lastly. Serious lag on this MB, along with unexplained spikes in CPU usage, of which I'm sure the OS is 70% to blame?, but I can't be assed to figure it out no more regardless.
So, back to ASUS it is, again
Asus Z170-Deluxe ordered, so here's hoping

No gigabyte love?
And what's the issue with the killer ethernet crap if you only use the driver as opposed to the bloatware?

Well, lol, what a week!
The Deluxe board lasted long, lol. Great board, except it decided to have a mind of its own, shutting down the system at random intervals. I initially thought, hey Microsoft, I know I disabled most of your shit, but this is taking things a step too far?, but, alas, it was the board after all. This thing decided to supply my chip with the occasional 1.54+ voltage on core, regardless of what I had set in BIOS!, no kidding! Anyone on air would have been royally fucked. Chip survived
Unusual for ASUS, IMO, as I always had good boards from them.
So let's try another angle, I thought. ASROCK. Heard a lot about them, why not?
Bad move, lol
Got it all fitted, only to find out my 1080 with backplate, would not fit in PCIe slot 1, WTF!!?? lol. Yup, the socket has been placed far too close to the IO plastic shroud, and there is no way for it to fit, unless I remove my 1080 backplate, which ain't gonna happen. FFS!
Both packed up and ready to go.
Next. (back to ASUS) Arrived today.
Let's see.
Think I'll become a motherboard reviewer, lol

I was m8, but the tech is just not worth it ATM. Getting there, but I just cant see it doing anything for me, gaming wise
Maximus VIII is the winner, and I'm impressed. It will do 5GHz, just, lol, but system is unstable. 4.9 @ 1.43v is fine, but I wont run it at that 24/7. Settled for my usual 4.8 @ 1.395v, all seems good, will burn in overnight to confirm
This board is good on 1.7 BIOS. I believe there is 1.92 available, so will test that tomorrow

@scara either you had a bad board or a bad bios on the Z170 which unlike the X99 chips didn't contain the bug with high voltage when using a corsair psu lol
