Netflix is making good on its plan to invest $5 billion in original content.
The streaming service has handed out a straight-to-series 10-episode order for a drama based on Richard Morgan's 2002 novel Altered Carbon.
Adapted by Laeta Kalogridis (Avatar, Shutter Island) and Skydance Television, the passion project is set in the 25th century and explores what happens when the human mind becomes digitized and the soul is transferable from one body to another. It centers on Takeshi Kovacs, an ex-elite interstellar warrior known named Envoy who has been imprisoned for 500 years and when he is downloaded into a future he had tried to stop. If Envoy can solve a single murder in a world where technology has made death nearly obsolete, he will get a chance at a new life on Earth.
Kalogridis previously penned the a screenplay for Altered Carbon to no avail. That has now become the Netflix drama.
Kalogridis will pen the script, exec produce and serve as showrunner. Skydance's David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Marcy Ross exec produce alongside Kalogridis' Mythology Entertainment partners Brad Fischer and James Vanderbilt.

Oh crap. She will run the whole show?
TWIN PEAKS is "something of a miracle."
"...like nothing else on television."
"a phenomenon."
"A tangled tale of sex, violence, power, junk food..."
"Like Nothing On Earth"

Haha yeah, that is quite the boner-killer. But damn, the combo Netflix-cyberpunk does sound bloody interesting. [conflicted feelings intensify] We shall wait and see!
I enjoyed almost all Morgans' books until he started to be sexually obsessed in them. But Altered Carbon is great cyberpunk read.
He wrote a dark fantasy series Land Fit for Heroes with bisexual main hero were he wrote him in some vivd gay anal sex scenes. So it was his last book published in Poland
The Killing alum Joel Kinnaman is set as the lead in Netflix’s Altered Carbon, a futuristic drama series conceived, written and executive produced by Laeta Kalogridis (Avatar). Miguel Sapochnik (Game Of Thrones) has come on board to direct the first episode of the series, from Skydance Television.

In the books Kovacs is of Japanese and Eastern-European descent so another perfect casting

Need more space and futuristic sci-fi stuff... I haven't enjoyed a space tv series since Battlestar and it is like 10 years old now or something close to that. Its depressing.
Maybe in second season. We really don't know if they will focus on the first book or the whole trilogy. The second book had some parts in space.

I hope they don't mess up the story, because first book was actually good post cyberpunk novel.

That was one hell of a teasing trailer
The production values seem to be strong, although the quality of the adaptation itself is a question mark. Hopefully the writing crew here won't pull a Cecilia Gimenez, we really need a good cybershow to augment our lives.
