It's hard to explain what a game like this is all about, because words cannot visualize and express the atmosphere and sense of involvement. I personally loved it but I recognize that the formula in question is marmite-like, so when in doubt the universal rule is always the same, ISOdemo it first and let the chunk of elaborate code mess with your imagination...if it's love then the purchase will magically happen too (eventually )
are the sales really that bad on this game? i thought it was fucking magnificent, so far its in my top 3 games this year...
Soma was released on 22 of the previous month, so let's say it has been a month.
SteamSpy says there are ~75k owners.
Frictional said their goal is to sell 100k copies after a month.
Steam's 75k copies with whatever they have sold on GOG and on PS4 should exceed 100k.
Therefore sales are on track.

Alien Isolation I consider to just be a hide and seek game. It was designed for a dumber/broader audience and gets it's thrills through that aspect. The Frictional games have some cheap thrill moments, but i've always considered them to be more of a horror adventure game rather then survival like alien isolation.
You can remove the monsters from the Frictional games and still have scary games. If you remove the Alien from Alien Isolation the game is not scary, and I wouldn't consider Alien Isolation scary once you get used to the Alien. After a couple of levels it isn't scary anymore, it's a cheap thrill that gets stale fast.
I'm not aware of the developers having posted anything, unfortunately there might not be a public changelog available.
(Somewhere on the Frictional forums maybe one of the devs could have commented on some things they've been tweaking in the beta build but I haven't actually seen anything like that either, it's completely silent or well it was last I checked at least.)
Nice and satisfying ending. One hell of a mixture of a horrible and a perfectly happy one Athough i did already kill the original Simon i started with when i changed suit, but he being left there was pretty expected. How thick must be be to not understand it at that point?

I don't think it was...
Spoiler:
"thickness". As such things are out of "our" boundaries of reality, the mind will always have troubles letting go.
Now we have to wait for the Depth prequel(?) movie.
Tis here in the form of a mini series I guess?
Ep1:
Turns out Depth is not (just?) the semi-canon miniseries but probably it was always a full length movie as we originally thought. Is the webseries excerpts from it (meaning Depth was first filmed)? Or is the full movie the webseries plus additional footage they shot later? I don't know. edit My research points to the former.
Ash and I have been in contact via private messages with Don Thacker, the director and co-writer of the film, through the SOMA Info Portal Twitter account. This is what we're allowed to tell you:
It's a feature film
The film's tentative title is DEPTH (all caps)
The film will be between 90 and 120 minutes long
Spread the word, and if proof is needed I'll ask Don if it's OK to screenshot the pertinent parts of his messages.
Coming 2016.

its such a weird approach they took... they were happy to let the 'THERES A MOVIE' hype build, but then it was just a mostly unsatisfying webseries that felt really disconnected, both from its parts and from the game...
if there actually IS a movie.. i feel like theyve mishandled it...
i can only hope its because it was overly ambitious and so they ran out of time to do the visuals and/or complete the editing before the game launched, so they had to show what they had to help build excitement and interest...
anyway will believe it when i see it. theres literally nothing official here... some random dude on the forums talking shit (hes not a moderator), and the guy/studio that did the webseries, are just drumming up interest (EXACTLY LIKE THEY DID BEFORE THE GAME WAS RELEASED) without any evidence or specifics... again... just like before the game came out, and the end result (web series) was a far cry from what was initially being talked about. smells like a troll post to be honest... but i can live and hope that it'll finally be what we were hoping for all those months ago.
LOL chiv. Regardless of how it was handled and that dude on the forums not being someone "official", it's very evident something is coming. I don't know, maybe not a movie a full blown movie, but there is definitely something coming because the social media of Imagos Films won't shut up about it.

BTW that "random" "troll" is the guy (or gal) running http://somainfoportal.weebly.com/ the #1 fan made site with information about the game up until its release. He is probably the most trustworthy person in the community and if what he says turns out to be false then it must have been he was fed lies.

yeah i read that he had a fan site.. im sure hes not just trying to make himself seem self-important to the community, or drumming up attention to the site
He's doing that by striving to provide accurate info not the opposite!!!

Just finished this as well, 3 days ago.
Atmosphere, story and length excellent.
Some proper puzzles like in Penumbra would have been nice though.
Spoiler:
I decided to keep Simon clone and brainscans intact and not destroy the WAU.
Maybe it will eventually make better clones and start repopulating the earth with semi-artificial humans.
The Arc has been launched anyway, Plan A so to say. Too bad the decisions didnt have any effect on gameplay/ending.
Frictional Games, creator of Amnesia: The Dark Descent and last year's SOMA, is branching out and starting work on its first non-horror game.
According to Wow247's interview with creative director Thomas Grip, there are two games in the works: "One game is horror... the other is not."
"We want to spread out on what Frictional does," said Grip. "We don't just want to be 'the horror guys.'" While the themes of the new project haven't yet been completely decided, Grip does want to look at taking "depressing facts about the world and making them into an experience."
Frictional will be taking fan feedback into account when making its new games. One complaint leveled at SOMA was the lack of "game" when compared to Amnesia: The Dark Descent. Grip wants to bring back the planning aspect of the first Amnesia, while at the same time not making it as "gamey" as the original.
Thomas Grip also says he has been inspired by the way PlayDead's Inside tells "its story through play."
We can't expect either of Frictional's projects to see the light of day soon though. "This Fall, we're to bring a lot of stuff together and see where we're at," said Grip.

honestly soma would have been better without the forced monster bits so i'm happy they want to do other stuff
Exactly. I LOVED the story, atmosphere, graphics etc. Fantastic game.
But those fucking monsters. Those stupid, annoying unrealistic, atmosphere breaking monsters. All I did was died over and over and it served only to annoy me.
If there was a version without monsters, I would prefer it.
Just as gone home. It had a feeling that there would be ghosts or something, but thankfully there were not

The problems with monsters in Soma was that they had very different AI routines and it wasn't clear initially how they worked.
Some had vision cones, some were deaf, some blind and some always seemed to trail the main character no matter what (probably smell).
It lead to trial and error and that was frustrating sometimes. That one blind monster in the server room I died like 10 times before I finally figured out how to pass it.
Noticed that it's part of this months humble monthly. Worth the 12$ or not?
Awesome underwater atmosphere - very claustrophobic, similar to Bioshock, but without combat which actually is a plus here. Graphics aren't too bad either. Let's just say it's one of the best so-called "walking simulators" out there right now...
If you're in a certain mood, ready to be depressed and anxious while playing then it's definitely worth it. I "enjoyed" it for a few hours and somehow managed to lose interest later into the game, but still haven't given up on it yet - just waiting for a right moment to continue playing...
