I thought the first 15 minutes were clever, kind of taking the piss at the viewers expense. How people soak up that sitcom bullshit, thats what i thought they were going for anyway.. Seems to have gone over a lot of viewers heads though.

Totally didn't see being called an idiot coming Laughing

Referring to yourself? Scratch Head dont remember calling anyone idiots unless the opening scenes went over your head counts as calling you an idiot.

Whats the alternative opinion though? The creators decided to pay homage to family ties and alf because older viewers will find that cool? Laughing

Well its ok for maybe 5 minutes but not over 15 thats the prob here. The laughter after things that were not funny was horror. And THAT differs from sitcom to sitcom but here it was only bad ^^. The look on Elliots face nonstop was also shit.

And during these 16 min after the "intro" I thought to myself: damn this really could be Mr. Robot. I would never ever watch this shit. Thank god it was only a dream a hallucination for Elliot and myself. At least I hope it was.

And no one was surprised. The writers should really stop doing this kind of "twists", as proved ever since S1 they're really bad at it, everyone and their grandma sees them coming from a mile away. Luckily it's just a side gimmicky thing that doesn't really affect all the other awesomeness, but for S3 getting rid of it would save some precious time that could be invested in much better things. Anyway, another really good episode overall Smile

Can't hide those kinds of twists from the internet hive-minds nowadays.
But it was definitely not as obvious as the Tyler Durden one last season.

Well, the difference is that this time Eliot lied to "us", or so he says.

Yeah I noticed when he said that in the end of the episode. Hopefully there's much more to it than what we were allowed to see Razz

The twist came as a pretty neat surprise to me. I didn't read any discussions of it online, and I wasn't actively looking for anything while watching the show itself (which is pretty rare for me, when it comes to "twisty" types of shows and movies), so it managed to sneak up on me.

I have to find a way to keep my mind distracted when watching TV in the future, since it allows me to appreciate stuff like that a little more Very Happy

Haha! Same for me, sometimes I'm thankful that my detective skills are sleeping like a panda, and unless there's something obviously derp/inconsistent, I just like to go with the flow, embraced by the unfolding events. One could say it's naive, but surprises like this one get immensely better Razz

I agree it wasn't as obvious as the Tyler Durden last season, but still was pretty obvious...

It was just too much Very Happy

But still I'm glad they got the cheap gimmick out of the way earlier this time, so they can keep focusing on the good stuff Smile

BTW, I was assuming all along that Ray and Co. were...

 Spoiler:

I wonder if they will show anything of that, though I would prefer that they be done with the twist thing for the rest of the season.

Ep5 (yeah I'm a few episodes behind): So that's two good episodes in a row, but it continues to be very disjointed. Great performance by Wong.

TWIN PEAKS is "something of a miracle."
"...like nothing else on television."
"a phenomenon."
"A tangled tale of sex, violence, power, junk food..."
"Like Nothing On Earth"

Ep6: The show is absolutely all over the place (and I'm not talking about the first 15 minutes of this episode) but all recent episodes are good regardless.

Ep7: ditto. Wow did the Ray thing go absolutely nowhere.

As for the twist that was as predictable as that of the first season's so I ain't mad about that.

Not nowhere;

It was just a side story of him wanting a way out and a plot device to get Elliot to embrace 'him'

I am glad they got the twist out of the way already, I feared they would leave it for the finale as the "big" twist of the season.

The twists being a bit predictable actually has a positive meaning for the show.
It means that it's structured and written well enough for people to pick up these things, ie. the twists are obviously planned and built up way in advance with everything happening in a realistic way leading up to them.

I like this alot more than the last second twists pulled out of the ass like in recent GOT seasons, where events are warped in unrealistic ways and characters make totally uncharacteristic decisions, just so we can have that sudden and forced twist.

Exactly. Another prime example of a show that tries to force unpredictability was LOST.
And we all know how that turned out Razz

Imagine how'd you'd feel if it weren't predictable.
If they didn't follow the routine. If they didn't have the imagery.

It was obvious from e01. It just wasn't obvious which it was.

I like the reveal. It worked for me. A lot of people I talked to never really saw it, until they started looking at it. That's how we were here too.

Ep8: Same high quality but disjointed storytelling.

edit: I mean, no, this time the episode itself wasn't disjointed, but no Elliot at all for a whole episode? That makes the whole season seem disjointed.

We still don't know what exactly happened at the end of S01, and what happened to Tyrell, I guess there is a big twist coming at the end of current season.

Ya, but it sucks that Tyrell will be at most in the 4 remaining episodes (and likely even less than that, eg in the final two) of this season.

Also the subplot concerning his wife has been going on nowhere so far. I'm sure it will eventually tie in with the rest of the subplots but again.. only in the final episodes.

Damn, whenever something finally clears up, we get obliterated by more industrial amounts of dafuq-ness. I'm just enjoying the ride at the moment, without asking any questions, but hoping that we get something similar to a convergence of all the subplots that re...*knock knock*
