Is that why developers stopped doing underwater in games? Because people hate that?! What the fuck?! That's fucking cool, we need more of that, not less!
its more they want games to be autopilot mode.. oh no underwater, oh no lava, oh no something arbitrary difficult.
I enjoy the game, but the idiotic action sequences and the lack of any challenge are killing me. Story is also bad, uninteresting in every way. I get the same feeling I got with FC4, a greatly created, yet boring world I'll just finish the story and be done with it.

Well besides that and gathering collectibles there isn't really anything else in the game, the few little side activities you do are for upgrades and the tombs while really nice (Particularly the later ones.) are also very, very short and again for various upgrades so since the game is already pretty easy you don't really need them much, or at all actually if you have some of the DLC weapons and outfits.
(Most alternate costumes have the same boring bonus so the DLC ones provide better variety and are also often both better looking and said bonus is usually superior.)
The game is maybe okaish but the god damn performance.
1080p, high preset and keeping steady 30 is not possible here... I have to get rx 470 or something

Underwater part in Tomb Raider II was damn amazing.
Back when Tomb Raider was all about exploration with zero hand-holding, a single mistake and you were sleeping with the fishes (literally). I miss those games so much, no one has the guts to propose such a formula in these spoon-fed days
Just imagine a remake of the first four Tomb Raider games using this:

That's called tomb raider anniversary (which this "game" uses the model from).
Ok minus the qte during the 5 cutscenes of the game.

Tomb Raider Legend, anniversary and underworld were way more classic stylized than reboot and reboot2.
I did not liked anniversary but I loved Legend for some reason.
This feels like "look I am so hardcore survivalist - go there"... its ok but its not Tomb Raider.
My father watched me play Rise fo the tomb raider yesterday and he was very disappointed that it's nothing like old games.

@ixigia Holy shit, that's exactly what I want from Tomb Raider. The mechanics from the old games would go so well with a modern engine. You'd have awesome looking areas on top of that. But no, I guess we'll stick to Rambo Croft.
the tank mechanics too? be careful for what you wish my friend
anniversary was a great remake of the first one (yes remake cause they changed the level design on some parts which was good). we need nothing more, maybe the tr2 with modern gfx would be nice. but the rest titles werent good games at al, our memory betrays us sometimes (and trust me: you dont want to replay tomb raider or tomb raider 2 in the original version nowadays)

+1
TRA is one of my favorite because it keeps the original feeling while making it 2016 playable (aka removing tank controls, which were part of the failure of Angel of Darkness).
I love tank controls, so yeah, I'd be fine with that too. That's not what I meant though. Anniversary was one of the best remakes of any game. It actually took the content of the original, put it with the new mechanics and improved it, making it better than the original. I think that entire original trilogy from Crystal Dynamics was fantastic, it was a great evolution of the franchise, and yes, pretty much what there is in that video. There are things that were lost from the old ones still, things that I would love back. Like nothing comes close to how challenging, demanding of the player and rewarding the platforming was in the old games.
I like the TR series and I probably played all of them, but no I don't want the old ones back. They were extremely clunky. The only thing that misses in this game is challenge, all the rest (like story) was always average in the series. The puzzles have absolutely no challenge here, zilch. You don't even have t think since the 'puzzles' are pretty much 100% linear.

I remember the time when during TR 2 I was always bit scared or nervous not to die after passing some crazy jumping area. Some parts were very challenging indeed. With these reboots I never got that feeling because no matter what the games are way too much forgiving so why bother.

hope you are joking, aod was the absolute lowpoint of the series. thats why coredesign lost the license after that crap (technically and gameplaywise)
Eidos forced a release of unfinished game. The game itself was a significant improvement from the previous parts of the series both technically and gameplaywise.
they had a second chance. chronicles already sucked monkeyballs, and they werent able to recover with aod (three years later) so they gave the license to crystal dynamics
I loved Croft Manor in Old Tomb Raider and in Legend

On PC you could save every time before any jump and just reload before if you failed.
It was actually more forgivable than some checkpoints in RoTTR that make you redo some parts.
On psx I think you had limited save games and needed crystal and what not though.
I enjoyed the 15 hours of game time, story is at 80%, but I can't force myself to finish it. No challenge, no sense of adventure, irrelevant story. It looks good and it plays good, but there's no soul.
