you cant just copy files from ripped games onto the disk inplace of demos and expect them to boot. The retail games are still signed and the media checks still reside in them...but what this will do is it can open up the possibility of running unsigned code like say an FTP server, and it will help the guys looking into modding the dvd firmware. Bit premature to be calling this a bootdisk solution. But it is good news non the less

Do the games/demos on the disk work though? All it says is they're "hackable" in the nfo.

It wont make a blond bit of diffrence.

There where things signed on the xbox that you could use without having a mod-chip, you still couldnt alter anything, I would imagine this is the same.

The Xbox Emulation disk, you can boot without a chip.

Xbox Live Arcade could be copied for xbox one, and booted withtout a chip.

none have led to anything.

hmm so this will probably be the only demo disk that you can boot up? Or did they already send out different sets of disks without protection? Cause I already played all these games.

this disc works because the files on it dont check what type of media its on i.e dvd-rom or dvd-r.

the files are properly signed. only way to make backups work is to either somehow bypass the media check in hardware (i.e hacked dvd drive firmware (not likely)) or bypass the media check in the software (which requires bypassing the checking signing of the files (more unlikely)).

seems the datafiles arent signed so there may be someway to exploit that (i wouldnt hold my breath tho)

Why everybody is so hyped about it ?
It's just a unprotected demo disk ...

But the information that there is a unprotected disk make a big chance to
hackers to learn about it maybe to invent a workaround.. Microsoft itself gave this chance to hackers

I have an feeling that we will see first an software exloit hack to run the backups, later the mod chip..cuz this time around the hardware side is more protected then the software side.

the firmware hack is very plausible, more ground is gained on that every day in fact it was pretty close on the xbox1 but one of the main people responsible pulled out because they didnt want it being used for piracy. My moneys on a firmware hack somewhat understanding what they are doing over there id say a few months of further development should yeild some results. This disk doesnt really mean that much in backup terms at the moment but it is useful in certain ways like to the firmware people they can look at how the drive behaves and see how its different when the disk goes through the authentication process.

nope i havent, seems unlikely any software exploit would work while the hypervisor is enabled (and there seems to be no possible way of disabling/compromising it)

How does he claim to have done that?! I mean the game is a Xbox 1 title and doesn't have a *.xex-file anyway. Jesus, always these f*cked up rumors! Embarassed
