Monitors are so behind. There are OLED TVs out there, there's also 50" 4k HDR TVs for 500€, but you got to pay more for 27" without HDR or 4K In fact if there where 32" 4K TVs I'd buy that as monitor, but sadly 40" is minimum.
@scaramonga sweet. That's the monitor with the super sexy back, right? I'd take one as well, just would have to be 3rd of the price

Moving head a bit lower on TN makes half the screen black, just can't take it. When I had my TN before this display I used to tilt it downwards, to minimize the brightness shift.
I do a bit of photoediting too, so good coors are nice. That leaves IPS and AMVA, but what I've read AMVA is still too slow for gaming. Nice cheap 31.5" 1440p AMVA screens out there, but don't want ghosting.

I have no reason at all to get a new screen, absolutely love it and every tech has it`s problems, its all up to what you`re sentitive to for sure!
Bad screen uniformity, average or worse blacks, light bleed etc these are thing`s that should not be allowed
I actually tried one of them fancy curved samsungs a little while back and while i liked the design and some features it was just plain awful compared to my plasmusmaximus.
I mean, everything was software based. Everything was just some effect, the panel it self was shit
I`ve seen one or two LG OLED`s and they looked sweet to me, however if there are burn in problems then it`s a no go regardless of anything else positive or negative.
I know most, or at least a lot of plasmas are in the danger zone for that but i`m pretty sure i have to really try to make that happen to mine. I use it as a computer monitor as well as a normal livingroom tv and that little windows button is there all the time, but does not burn in.
I did do a nice 200hr break in period where i was was super careful when i got it as that was the advice i was given at the time, anyway.

So I'm wanting to upgrade my current screens to something worthy of my 1080.
I'm struggling to figure out WHAT I actually want tho.
I have a thing for triple screens, I have 3x23" right now( well, 2x23, 1x 23.4 which fucks everything up!) and while pretty good, I need matching screens really.
Trouble is, I ALSO want something like a 2k screen. OR a 144Mhz. OR maybe an ultrawide, which ideally has a physical width of at least 70cm.
Something like this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/LG-29UC88-29-Inch-Curved-Monitor/dp/B01D7OZRBM - this looks quite nice.. but it is only 1080p.
Or... I keep 3 screens. With the new Simultaneous Multi Projection system, it might be worth sticking with it.
I just don't know. What would be the way forward?

I'd go for something like this (just the cheapest one, no idea on lag/response, but it's IPS)

I definitely considered that one. It's something I would probably get, although it isn't in stock at Amazon. WIsh I could afford this (although the reported screen blur at high refresh would concern me)

Well ditch g-sync and it's a lot cheaper (of course it would be handy with 144hz)

I'd rather wait a bit for the 30''versions of those, 2560x1080 at 35'' is pretty ugly. Also the 30'' panel is gonna have a native 200Hz refresh, no overclocking needed. Whether the response times are going to be able to keep up, that's another story...
Or wait for the C34F791, will probably get cheaper soon after launch, and the newest Samsung SVA panels tend to have better response times.

na its ok, 1440p is already fine but 4k is awesome. you dont sit that close to your 58" tv like you sit in front of your monitor. though it might be needed to use the windows options to scale bigger

It is. Scaling is still shit in Windows and after having Dell 27" 4K IPS monitor at work for a couple of months I'm not missing it a single bit compared to my 2x U3415W I'm using now.
4K is fine but Windows is just not ready for it not to speak of gaming performance with your Titan X Pascal-less GPU.

I tried my PC with my TV when i got it, windows desktop looked so fucking tiny without scaling, and with scaling it looked like shit, absolutely horrible after using at work shitloads of apple crap, OSX scaling is so nice. Im 21:9 guy these days, nothing will make me swap back to 16:9, the aspect ratio is just so damn good for media and work, gaming aswell (when supported properly).

Well I'm coming from 27" 1080p, so this is much sharper for me, even with scaling. Tried to capture a shot of what I see, but it comes out much larger (guess it's one of those scaling issues..). Anyways still got cleartype to play with if needed, have always used that, but now took it off.
You'd have to go huge on monitor size to use 4K without scaling and then you'd have to start turning head around to see corners. So either it's 4K with scaling or no 4K at all.
edit: ok, fired up my photo editor and indeed the icons are blurrier than earlier. So scaling works sweet for text, but little images not so much. Oh well, can live with that.

No, 16:9 will still look like a box, HDR is nice tho. I will swap this monitor when there is higher resolution 34" curved 21:9 with OLED panel and perhaps it will have HDR aswell.

Any ~27" monitor for around 350 bucks that destroys my U2311H in picture quality? I've been sifting through some reviews and the development of monitors seems to be very slow over the years.

If I buy a 4K monitor and game on it using 1080p, will it look like crap? I really want a big ass monitor with 4K for watching shows and possibly a console in the near future, but I have no intention to upgrade my 970GTX soon. I assume a 970GTX can't keep up with 4K gaming.
What if I buy a 2K monitor and play at 1080p?

In theory it should look good but in practice 1080p on 4k will look like crap 99% of the time because it gets interpolated like any other resolution. Same goes for 720p on a 1440p monitor.
Monitor manufacturers and nvidia/amd are apparently too stupid to implement nearest neighbor scaling.

No, it needs to be evenly divisible otherwise it has to interpolate. It can never look like native resolution. 8k in theory could display all popular resolutions perfectly when using nearest neighbor scaling.
You can make upscaled resolutions look a bit better though with ReShade. By using high quality FXAA combined with Adaptive Sharpen for example.
Maybe in the future we will see more of the new rendering techniques used for 4k in consoles like checkerboard technique and that one where it only renders the center part at highest resolution.
So then there is a slight quality loss but less of performance hit when gaming at 4k.
Imo it's not a good time to invest a lot of money in displays right now because of these uncertainties with performance and such. Also HDR is coming, more high refresh displays and waiting for fuckin Nvidia to start supporting FreeSync.
